Gran Turismo 7’s 1.54 Update is Coming This Week

A quick numbers race about the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196. If Tthe car is 20,000,000 Cr., you’d need 400,000,000 Cr. To replicate the twenty cars on a 1954 Formula One grid. If players can swing that in the next couple weeks while cars are on sale, the races that can be replicated that year are:

  • Grand Prix Belgium/Spa-Francorchamps(36 Laps)
  • Grand Prix Germany/Nurburgring(22 Laps)
  • Grand Prix Italy/Monza(80 Laps)

Not really. A F1 grid from 1954 wasn't made of 20 Mercedes.

Also, this W196 Streamliner, driven by Fangio and Moss is going to be auctioned soon and is estimated to sell for $70 million.

I think it’s safe to say the car will cost 20 million credits. The W196 is motorsport and F1 royalty.


Too bad it won't sound anything like that in game.

If an update contained five cars I wanted, chances are that nobody else would be that interested in it. But then it's not about me. Or you.
Not being contrary to you, just adding my view to this. In actuality, it is about us, each and every one of us. I personally want older GP cars and newer Gr.1 cars, others want more up to date Gr.3 cars, and some want older street cars. We are all different and like different things. So I believe this "is" about us..
To quote a well known Rolling Stones song...
" You can't always get what you want,
but if you try sometime,
you get what you need."

It's not, for the reasons you point out.

We're all different. What floats your boat may not float mine and vice versa. That being the case, it's not possible to have a five-car update that makes us both happy if we want different things from it.

But that shouldn't stop either of us from recognising that what is in the update might have cultural significance - either in the wider automotive world or just in terms of "Gran Turismo"ness - outside our own preferences.

When someone says, of an update containing one of the greatest F1 cars ever, a highly community-requested car, and the prelude to the third arm of the much,hyped second hypercar holy trinity, that it's evidence PD is saving nice/cool cars for something else, they are clearly speaking for themselves and what they regard as nice/cool only and not paying attention to what's relevant to the wider community.
 
I have my own desires on what cars I want to see but ultimately I take what I get and most of the time I'm quite happy with it.
Same. And besides, I make my own Gr.4 & 3 cars with street cars and consider those GT RM modifications when they're done. Just need visible weight reduction, ability to swap steering wheels and seats and add a MoTeC display and/or custom gauges like in GT6, and it'd be complete. One could wish that happens in GT8.. :D
Good varied selection. The Jimny is meh, only because we already have one but other than that, solid choice of cars. The W196 is wetting my lips, doubley so because the 20mn price-tag is causing my tears to pour down.
If I could choose between this Jimny and the Jimny we already have, I'd probably choose the one we will be getting. The wide body option for the kei is an abomination. I want proper wide fenders, not a flat, plastic wannabe "I mAdE mY oWn BoDyKiT, I" option. :P
 
I was slightly split when they included the Jimny as I like the kei car version but I also thought it would be nice to have the wide 1.5L variant because they're the ones I see on the road. People go on about "dupes" but I honestly don't mind. The dupes aren't really dupes in my mind because there are significant differences. I guess it's just the expectation of new cars each month that bothers people.

Regarding the Mercedes W196, whenever PD adds a classic race car like this I fear how they're going to handle the physics as they're inconsistent with how they treat these older cars. The old 50s sports racers tend to be quite enjoyable so I hope they treat the W196 similar, with comfort tires as default and a decent over the limit driving dynamic. It seems to be when we get to the 1960s that they get confused and give a 330 P4 racing tires and it's kinda undrivable with anything less as they've designed its physics to work on racing tires. And then the Alpine A220 has comfort softs, which suggests to me that the only reason the 330 P4 has race tires is because that's what it had when it was included back in GT5...

Escort Cosworth is really neat, will go really well with the Delta Integrale and Celica GT-Four. The two Porsches aren't really my cup of tea but I'm sure they're someone's.

Oh, I know. While I made the post, I had a look at all the different Formula One cars, from that year, we don’t have in the game. So, usually, players will make liveries that rebrand a car to pretend it’s another make. Not sure how the Maserati, D-Type, DB3S, etc. Le Mans cars would fair versus the F1 Mercedes-Benz. Those Le Mans cars don’t have the same look as the Formula One car. Therefore, if someone wants to make a 1954 Formula One grid, 20 Mercedes-Benz W196s are the closest we’ll get. Until maybe another Formula One car from that era is added.

I guess, the Honda RA272 could be used as a filler, but is clearly not the same era.

It’s like your avatar. If someone wanted to replicate that year Le Mans, we don’t have the Ferrari 512 S as yet. In that class, players would probably use five 917Ks to get that feel of the three Porsches versus two Ferraris that finished the race. We use what we have(those of us that replicate such races).

The W196 looked totally different in the same F1 season. There were two versions (one had enclosed wheels one had open) so either way you’d struggle to replicate some GPs. The version that raced at Le Mans (W196s) is a different (some would say simply modified) car had two seats and a larger engine too
 
I do have a 1:43 scale 992 Turbo S, and after reading the article I checked out that scale model (made by Minichamps). I can say the silhouette on the bottom right does check out. I initially thought it's a 964 Turbo S '93 based on the datamined list, but the rear spoiler on that mystery car is rather too short for a whaletail.

Some part of my mind is screaming 911 Dakar, though. :lol:


As a Porsche fan, I am really happy that the 992 TS will finally be included after four years, and it would be great to run it on the Nurburgring or any other track to see if the motoring journalists' reviews on that car will live up.

The Mission X, however, is an interesting choice.
 
Not sure what this mean? But I like grinding. Driving and grinding credits are my 2 favorite things to do in gt7.

To me holding on to 100M credits is more boring then grinding the same race 1000 times.
I Held on to the 90-100mill credits for months thinking PD was going to do a 4 or 5 car update with 20million cars then started buying a heap of cars for engine swaps wide body engine swap wide body and standard cars. Still have just under 60 million left.
 
Looking forward to see what else this update will bring outside of the 5 cars
I think ps5 pro patch is a safe bet, hopefully that means pd can push sophy futher and start focus more on features for ps5 and ps5 pro.
If it will include a new track is very hard to say but i think its possible,
My guess is on. 10 engine swaps for this update,

Maybe a 911 collecting menu,
More Porsche events proably to go with the 992 turbo,

Could this be the final update of the year, hopefully their is another one after world series, proably when my first gt comes out as well, I expect them to share some info about it on the world finals in Amsterdam.

  • Porsche 992 turbo s: Awd Porsche? Bring it!!!
  • Porsche mission x: not the biggest fan of ev's ( even though I kinda like the Porsche taycan). Would rather have something like the leaked ferrari 812 superfast in its place.
  • Ford escort cosworth: depends on witch version we get. Rally car I would be happy, road car not so much.
  • The 4x4 silhouette: some say its an upgraded jimny, some say its a mercedes, some even say its a hummer. Please let it be a hummer. Apart from that, whatever... .
  • Mercedes w196. A fine addition. Probably a "nopit" car for tokyo or le mans grinds (at least on google it says it has a top speed of 300 km/h). I just pray it has a price in line with porsche carrera gts 904 and honda ra272 and not 20M.

If we get the road car then it's possible to make the race and rally versions out of it via custom parts and tuning. If we get the rally car than it's just the rally car.

The road car will be vastly more versatile, it will just require a few more steps.

It is a little surprising that after the Uras that we haven't had something like a Macan/Cayenne/DBX/Purosange et so there is something in a similar class.
I don’t think so. These cars aren’t particularly good on a circuit, and I think they only added the Urus because it encapsulates all the prowess of a Super-SUV.

GT has a tendency to only add cars that have some interesting accolades attached to them, and most of the performance SUVs don’t have that. SUVs like the Urus are essentially just performance cars with an emphasis on practicality. Practical performers have existed long before the SUV boom, but generally they’ve been ignored by GT (like the older Ferrari 2+2 cars). I really don’t mind, because there are so many truly great cars still missing in GT7.

I can understand that although the Cayenne Turbo/GTS is a very capable circuit car (been driven round silverstone in one at the Porsche experience centre)

I'd rather a performance SUV than a Jimny tbh 🤣

Top left New Jimny 5-door i think.
Top right seems like Escort Cosworth. Almost sure about it.
Bottom right has lines of a Porsche. Bottom left is obviously a legendary cabrio race car.
Front seems to me like Pagani Huayra Epitome but can't say i'm sure.

Honestly, I'd be fine if the supposed Jimny model actually turned out to be a G63, if only to give the Urus a solid rival. Especially since unlike the Urus, the G-class in general has a fascinating history as a military vehicle. At one point, even the US Marine Corps used it!

I feel like the Purosangue is unique enough to be worth adding, just due to being the only V12 and having more interesting proportions. They should definitely get to stuff like the 812 Superfast first though, but I'd bet the Purosangue would be a more worthy addition than the DBX or Cayenne.
