It’s so weird (in a good way!) seeing a themed update coming from Polyphony. That gives us plenty of hope to more themed possibilities, like the modern GT500 trio, who knows?
I'm crossing finger for this. We got Super Formula themed update and now Hypercar themed update, so it's definitely not impossible

Im sure they wanted to save the hypercars for gt8, considering what's going on with ps6, it's still a long way coming,so I think we'll get this quality of updates more often at this point
Yeah complete speculation but the direction of GT7 recently coupled with murmurings of the market in general make me think the PS6 has been pushed back and GT7 has had some kind of internal life extension to account for GT8 probably being pushed back too?

Considering what's meta in GR1, None of them will be meta lmao
Don’t know that yet, that’s complete speculation. with the mess that Gr1 is I don’t have confidence in it. Why do you think there’s a lack of sport mode races with them?

Adding these cars are cool but with the the way Gr1 is implemented in GT7 it’s pretty useless to have them.

A twingo for a daily A race is more usable

they could always restrict some sport mode races to just the 5 hypercars, like they've done with the different gens of gt500 before. i just don't know why they refuse to add single player events for the seperate categories. it'd be a good way to encourage players to drive more different cars.

That's one of the main issues I find with GT7 that both Sport Mode and Single Player races share, is PD doesn't properly use the cars they have. With as many cars as GT7 has right now, there should easily be more event variety than the usual Gr.3/Gr.4 in sport mode, and the Sunday Cup for the 20th time in single player.

GT used to make it a priority to ensure almost every car had some event specifically tailored to it (even the damn moon buggy.) GT7's event categories feel so broad that outside of trying out the new cars when the update drops, if you care about those, there isn't reason to properly engage with a lot of the car list, when the previous Numbered Grand Turismo titles put a big emphasis on collecting and using a WIDE variety of cars, with each persons experience being different between the cars they bought, used, and won.

Even looking from the online side of things, they could say choose only AWD Gr.4 cars, or only LMP1 era Gr.1s, 90s GT1 era Gr.2s And that's not withstanding mixing race cars with specially modified road cars like the excellent classic JGTC inspired Sport Mode event a while ago.

GT7 has more than enough cars and tracks, that even if they never update the game again, it should NOT feel as stale as it does sometimes, if they properly made use of the content already included in the game.

I'm fine with them doing that for GT7 now we're firmly in the long tail phase (though if I'm honest I don't expect any more new event types), but I wouldn't want GT8 events to be locked down like that where you can only use cars that raced each other IRL.

As unbalanced and AI-weak as they are, a lot of the fun of the WTC format is being able to tune your road car into something that can compete with the racing cars like you could in classic GT. WTC800, say, becoming "you must be GT3 homologated to enter" would remove that aspect from the game entirely and kind of make the tuning shop a bit superfluous.

Which is exactly why PD now allow players to use garage cars in the Power Pack. The survey must have opened their eyes to how players prefer options. Good stuff.

The memetic popularity of the Twingo cannot be understated here
I don't understand the "hype" behind the Twingo, where in fact it is actually a **** car.

Should we expect the typical Gr.1 pricing for the Hypercars? 3.000.000 Cr. for the Le Mans winning 499P and 1.000.000 Cr. for the rest?
Cr. 3,000,000 is expected for the 499P, while for the 963, perhaps Cr. 2,000,000?

This is because despite the fact that it didn't perform as well in the FIA WEC, it was (and still is) quite successful in IMSA with three 24 Hours of Daytona victories in a row.

Unfortunately in my country we didn't get the twingo, but I can understand the cultural impact of the car that helps to create the hype as tunning and bringing to the limit these cars is the dream of a large group of people (it happened with the Tsuru on FH5 that it has the same cultural impact herein Mexico).

For the prices I can se the 499p (Le Mans winner) and the 963 (Daytona winner) at 3M crs. The BMW while it hasn't been a champion has won some races in IMSA/WEC, that would make it worth to cost around 1.5 - 2 M Crs. The 9X8 having 0 wins make it easier to estimate on 1M credits. The Porsche 992 safety car probably 400k Crs (considering the base 992 turbo S cost 300k Crs)

I think the 963 should be capped at $3.000.000

Great set of cars for an update but there’ll be 3 useless cars as soon as the other one of becomes a meta
To be honest I would like to see an overhaul of the Group 1 ruleset. If not a complete ditching of. We should have Group C, LMP1, LMP1-H, Hypercar and Group 1 as seperate classes. LMP1 COULD be put into Group 1 as we only have 2 cars from that ruleset, but the others have at least 4 so there's no reason not to do it.

With a Le Mans centric update incoming, I can't help but to wonder if the hybrid deployment for LMPs currently in the game will be reworked.

At present, cars like the 919 and GT-R LM Nismo deploy their hybrid boost automatically at a set amount within a set speed range, which typically make them lose out on top speed comparative to pure ICE cars in Gr.1. I believe the hybrid systems in those cars IRL is deployed manually and by a variable amount by the driver (please correct me/elaborate more for those able; I'm not super into these machinery). I've been thinking that hybrid boost can perhaps be activated by the Overtake button, and the boost level could be controlled via the MFD. It would certainly help with the overwhelming power understeer cars like the TS050 experience on corner exits. Think of all the strategy options having manual hybird boost would enable!

Then again, if modern hybrid prototypes gain that flexibility, I think they would shatter any glimmer of hope for Gr.1 to ever see balance or variety again. Perhaps Gr.1 events would then have to be separated by the #Hybrid Car and a new #Pure ICE tag.

Just food for thought to tide us through till the update lands!

Update is not bad...
Could be better, why People are getting here so Hyped...Strange!
Out of curiosity, what would’ve made it better?? (Remember it was only a preview video so we don’t know what else is coming June 11).

It's cultural. Just this morning I saw a good dozen of Twingo (if not more) on my way to the market. Furthermore, many greengrocers use Kangoo vans to transport their goods. And as for the customers, once people have finished shopping they put their purchases in the trunk of their Renault Captur or Peugeot 2008, hilarious.

I hate to admit it, but putting modern day econoboxes in GT7 is successful marketing, at least to me. Previously, the cars on the road all just blended together, but now that I know of the RAV4 and 2008, I begin to notice and pick them out in the sea of cars, thinking, "oh yeah, I've seen that ******* in GT7". Once you know of something, you suddenly notice it a lot more than before you knew of it.

I think a large part of the reason why Polyphony Digital adds certain cars to the game is their overall significance for the car industry (or maybe even society as a whole) rather than sheer performance. This is evident from the Legendary Car section as well.

If you look at the Twingo it pretty much laid the foundation for small city cars like the Smart or VW Up. It was a cheap and very practical car for an urban environment but still stylish and had lots of personality. It showed that a car like that doesn‘t necessarily have to be a boring appliance. At least that‘s my take on it.

For LMP's the hybrid did act as a boost on top of the normal engine power, but in this new Hypercar class the power is capped at around 670BHP at all times. It could be 670BHP fully from the engine, or to deploy e.g. 100BHP of hybrid the engine has to drop to 570BHP to not exceed the 670 combined total. In that sense it acts purely as a range extender, not a boost as seen in LMP1.

Though the GR010 we already have in the game might still behave like an LMP1 in the sense that it loses performance when the hybrid runs out, instead of maintaining a constant 670BHP regardless of charge, that's more the fault of how Polyphony has implemented it into the game.

I could maybe see the GR010 being fixed now that 4 other cars that work the same way are coming, though I can also see Polyphony giving the 4 new cars the same inaccurate system the GR010 has where the hybrid is more of an LMP1-style boost.

I doubt that the LMP1 Hybrids will be changed because they are seperated technically from the Hypercars in how their hybrids function in real life. Though it would be nice for LMP1's to get a manual boost button, I don't see it happening.
The Toyota & Lexus VGT's have a boost button paired with a rechargeable hybrid system, as oppose to cases like with Nitrous or the Super Formula where it doesn't recharge, so that's pretty neat.
