The McLaren P1 only has 2 seats whilst the Mazda CX30 has 5, that means that it can be enjoyed 2.5x the number of people at any given time, and that's not even mentioning the 430l luggage capacity in the boot, again over 3x the amount you get in the McLaren.
Reminds me of this...

Most people will probably drive them once for the novelty and never touch them again afterwards.
My in game P1 GTR has 1 mile on it, I did half a lap at Brands Hatch, and haven't touched it since, I did at least 1 lap of the Nordschleife in the Unimog.

Fair point, I didn‘t like the P1 GTR either, the regular P1 would have been the better choice. I spent a lot of time with the 918, LaFerrari and the Chiron, though.

In pretty much every other way it was more or less rubbish on the road.
That doesn't sound familiar.

I've not driven the P1, but I have driven a lot of McLarens and - wooden carbon ceramic brakes aside - not a one of them was a chore on the road. A bit of low-speed crabbing on cold roads, and really crappy early infotainment are about the limits of bad. The 720S was just like driving a low and wide hatchback and wasn't even bad to park once I learned where to trust the cameras and sensors.

McLaren road tests everything on the actual road, near Woking. The roads are as crap as much of the rest of the UK, and as a result none of them are upset by it.

I'd be surprised if the P1 was an exception (particularly because it spawned the 720S, which was based on what McLaren learned in developing the P1 though not directly derived from it), and I don't recall reading about this supposed rubbishness in any contemporary publications.

Combine that with the modern styling and Mazda's iconic Soul Red metallic paint and it's not even a contest which is the better car!
If a wealthy uncle from america was asking you which car he can offer you between a McLaren P1 and a Mazda CX30, which one would you pick ? 😁

I don't think I would be able to afford the insurance on the McLaren so I'll have to accept his very generous offer of the Mazda 👍
CORRECT SIR!

This is the only correct answer, and I love McLarens.

And by "correct answer" I mean if you don't have:
  • a secure garage to keep your awesome ride safe
  • have a lifestyle where you can afford insurance & fuel
  • have roads near you where this car could be enjoyed
  • all of the above and you see this as an investment
then there is one correct answer.

I'm sure I missed something and am about to get flamed for it.

:D

I don't think I've put more than 100 miles on them combined. For context I have nearly 11,000 miles on my primary BMW VGT, and about 50,000 miles in the game.

I'm not against hypercars, I just don't think they should be considered any more relevant than any other cars just because they're more exotic.

Uh uh. Haven’t you all learned anything from Gran Turismo? The only correct answer is you thank your uncle for the P1 and sell it. He’s done you a solid.:sly:

Top Gear's Tom Ford got wheelspin in fifth gear on the motorway and had to drive it home like a diesel estate, because apparently fear is the best traction control.

In the review in which he refers to it as "a hypercar that your mother could drive to the shops", "a very easy car to drive, but a very hard car to drive to the limit", "distressingly easy", "feels small. And unthreatening. And easy"?

That review? It all sounds terribly familiar and McLareny. 720S is pretty lively when the turbos spool up, but in fifth on a motorway in a P1 you're at over 90mph at 4000rpm. Not a good indicator of general mixed purpose road use - at which the 720S is perfectly fine, not "rubbish", and Tom Ford appears to concur the P1 is too.

Yeah, I'd most likely have to go with what's provided. But the McLaren is one of my favorite enjoyable road cars in the game, I remember when I first began using it in NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. They had two different kinds of events/challenges. One was World Racing Championship where you chose any car, it's color and the transmission and you were put in races with various tracks from around the globe, you could race with the A.I. while dodging traffic.

Then there is Ultimate Racer where you had to watch out for cops, their helicopters and spike traps and a bunch of traffic. Good times.

That just gave me a thought, PD should have a traffic challenge where you have to do a couple of laps while dodging oncoming traffic/and cars for extra credits, or they could start doing it in gt8. Idk, just a suggestion.

I’d figured any super hyper car is easy to drive at pedestrian speeds. Weren’t only the early DCT and select-o-matic cars like the R35, very jittery at low speeds?

GT3 was the best racing game with all the license tests, special events and endurance races. They even had a single arcade mode where you could set the track, difficulty of A.I. and pick the setting of the tracks you wanted to race at. Great for learning the feel and cars and learning all the turns/hairpins and corners of all tracks that were included in the game. I only saw the demo for gt1, but never bothered playing it or gt2. PD should add some more Group 1 cars in the mix that aren't too insanely fast, one of the Tomahawk's are so fast, it'll blow you out of this world.

Well imo the 720S and especially the P1 and Senna are very significant cars, not only for McLaren but automotive history in general. Like you said, at the end of the day it‘s a matter if taste but I just can‘t understand why PD omit such important road cars (same with the BMW M1, Mercedes 500E and many other cars) in favor of mom cars like the CX-30.
I wouldn't call the 720S or Senna significant. The P1 yes but the other two aren't exactly milestone cars.

Yep, that's the one. Where he is terrified about having to drive it in the rain but relieved when he finds out it's not as bad as he thought it would be. Until it tries to kill him. And then proceeds to drive it home as if it was a diesel estate. Yet that incident doesn't affect the score.

If you get wheelspin in 5th gear you'll get wheelspin in the lower gears as well.

Sure, the P1 is perfectly fine at general mixed purpose road use if you consider the fact that it's a hypercar. But compared to a diesel estate it's pretty rubbish. Poor fuel economy, poor range, noisy, expensive, minimal luggage space, excessive power and poor traction control.

I'd be willing to bet 10-15 cars at any given point are being held for some occasion or another. Partnerships that are yet to have an announcement, extra cars sprinkled through the updates to help ease progress. Maybe waiting on a specific part to model for aero upgrades.. It makes sense to have a buffer instead of just blowing the freshly modeled cars within a month of finishing them.

I'm sick of seeing these sort of comments because NOTHING is being held back.

That is sadly most likely the case.
Gt7 is over 3 years old at this point.
It would be much smarter from business standpoint. To deliver cars people really want
In next game and it will generate a lot of hype.
And get people to buy it. Bringing those cars now in gt7 would not generate much profit.

Pd can deliver around 60 cars per year kaz words not mine. We are getting around 30-35 cars per year, so yes its pretty safe to say they holding back cars for next gt. Or some others for bigger or future updates.

You dont want to create a new game with no new cars. And given how long it takes to create cars in the detail pd does it they have to hold back some cars.

And pd has not really blown us away with the car choises in updates lately. We know they can bring banger updates if they want to. Spec ll, july update last year is good example of that.

Just because they can, doesn’t mean they are!

No, I don't but it would be good to actually answer the question I posed with an answer rather than a question. Kind of suggests you don't have an adequate response.
Kaz has stated in interviews that when content is ready it is released. Now answer my question

Edit, from @Famine :
It's also worth noting that if you're going by "Kaz himself stated", he also stated that GT doesn't operate by holding back content for the next game but by making them available when they are available - although that was in 2019.

Thats true. But no dev is delivering all content they create when its ready. They will save some of it for the right moment.

Gt7 is over 3 years old and by this time in the past a new gt has been revealed. If they would deliver all the content the created that would leave a new title with little new content.

For all we know we could get cars thats already been ready for a year and are just being deipfeed.

Remember the time attack eg civic it was scanned back in the gt sport days and we didint get it until years later in gt7.
So no i dont belive they will always release content when its ready.
