So,regarding the new Sophy custom races, now people have had a chance to try them out.If we use a stock car from my garage for Sophy,Renault Clio Sport,to use, then when we get to the car settings page if I add the previously removed performance parts to my car to up the horse power, are these parts also added to the Sophy cars or do theirs remain stock?
I asked earlier this morning but at that time the update hadnt been out long so didnt expect any info.
After launching a Custom Race, while in the pre-race lobby, you can make changes to your car and not disrupt the AI (in your same car).

If you then go into Race Settings, make an adjustment, and persist them with the ‘go race’ button, the AI will update to match your new tune.

I should confess my knowledge comes from the old AI, but as with many other things I have noticed, I am assuming that convention to be unchanged.

Do you know whether this applies to the tires? Will the AI be on the same tires I equipped to my car?

Tires have their own rules:

AI will only use their default (whatever it came with / create new tune sheet to see) tire or RH* if you equip it in the active tune sheet. Same pre-race rules apply within the above rule, if relevant.

*You can’t create this situation with Sophy (no rain) but when it rains, classic AI will have IM/W tires even if you haven’t purchased them for the car. As the track dries, AI will pit for RS tires, again regardless of whether you’ve bought them or not.

I didnt try it yet (Logitech user) but on the pro wheel forum and in reddit threads the people is confirming the disaster.
I was going to type "I cant believe they did it again" but yes, I CAN believe it.

I just hope someone at PD put an eye over this and fingers crossed for this isnt something pourposely wanted by them
Yea, I can confirm. I didn't do any Sport Mode races but went into a lobby (me and one other person) and all was fine with the True Force until a third player came in. Once he entered the track, the TF went away. Two mins later he left and the TF came back.

Seems like in this one instance that if more than two people are in a lobby (or a race in Sport Mode) TF dies. I am in a league and the first race is tomorrow. FFS

Thanks Kaz.

Sophy AI 2.1 is great. Just need to teach it grid starts and rain now and I'd happily take this for GT8. Feels nice to have competition and aggressive AI even at the back of the line and no rubberbanding. Did a race in Super Formula just to feel the differences in the old AI and Sophy since I haven't played in a while. On Hard difficulty with boost set to weak, you really have to be careful even with minor mistakes because Sophy will definitely take advantage of it. Sophy not being afraid to get side by side during turns while not dive bombing you off the track and forces you to always be on your toes and have more situational awareness. The old AI on hard was super easy and provides no challenge.

After last updates🤭

The first thing I did yesterday before anything else was buy the Kangoo and drive around Goodwood. It's not fast but it's a lot of fun to drive with compact dimensions and a low curb weight. It's just a tall Clio with all the charm you'd expect from a small Frenchie. Next I bought the Vantage and took it to the Red Bull Ring. The car wasn't very loud but wow did it handle through the corners. It's one of the best cars I've ever driven in any game, let alone Gran Turismo. I must jump back in it again. After that I fully tuned the car and took it to Suzuka, which was quite exciting because it produced a biblical sound that was both aggressive and sonorous at the same time. Kinda like an angry cat. However the biggest surprise was the Mazda CX-30. I thought it would be a total mess of a thing but it actually behaved really well when I thrashed it around Tsukuba. I did not expect a cross-over to be fun to drive but it showed decent dynamic prowess when pushed and there wasn't an excessive amount of body roll. I'm really happy with this update because all 3 fantastic machines have their own distinct personalities.

I've seen the same for Logitech GPro (maybe 923?), but it's not the FFB rather the TrueForce is basically non-existent. Odd thing is, per one streamer who uses the wheel, it's fine in Sport mode qualifying but once the race starts it's gone. If this is the case, this is killer. It's not the first time PD have Nerfed TF but this one seems almost unintentional. I've not tried it yet, but am nervous as to the results.

I do not know about 1P races or Lobbies.

ETA: From 1.49

I can confirm. Just quit trying to race in Daily B, trueforce is not working in the race, but does work in the qualifying laps.

I'm definitely noticing some wonkiness in custom races with Sophy.

I'm driving the Ferrari 458 Italia Gr.4, fresh out of the Brand Central shop with BoP enabled (thinking to myself that would be the most even possible playing field for the AI and me), at Spa for a 15 minute custom race with everyone driving the same model. I am starting at 15th position.

Driving with Boost on Strong and difficulty on Professional, I can get into top 3 after the first lap.
Driving with Boost on Off and difficulty on Professional, I seem to have to fight tooth and nails for every spot, but I do notice the rubberbanding if I spin or something because I am able to catch up to the pack and start gaining places again.
But, if I change Boost to Weak and even lower the difficulty to Beginner... I have no chances against the AI. It's leaving me in the dust like there's no tomorrow.

Mind you, I'm still a beginner driver. My pace in the Ferrari at Spa is about 2:34. But I would still hope to be able to at least stay somewhat level with Sophy on Beginner and not fall so extremely back when I change Boost to Weak. It's interesting how much this one setting changes the game.
It's not just a Sophy thing. The regular AI is also better with boost set to weak. It seems like there is a glitch in the menu where "weak" is mapped to "off" and vice versa.

I built one fully tuned(all NA motor- it’s got the sound, so cool), 17” wheels, standard body, slammed super touring style. I’m going to buy the other 14 colors and they’ll be my BTCC cars until we get a proper FF sedan from 1988-2001.

I want one. My wife said, “Oh, that’s nice. Go for it.”. :)

Edit: Found one. Six hours away from me. ;)

LY Kangoo reminds me of this lovely project...

There are only two things missing for GT7 to be perfect for me:

Make Sophy able to race in the rain

And lastly, have access
to all the cars in the game in Quick Race and Custom Race.

Come on, Yamauchi, I know you can do it. Make Gran Turismo great again.
Tremendously Bigly

I was just about to come here to confirm and complain that Sophy has the same problem of slowing down in the middle of the race to allow the player to catch up but it looks like I need to give weak boost a try. GT has made me loathe rubberbanding so much that it feels icky to turn any kind of boost on lol

Developing AI is a very difficult process in general. There are choices that need to be made as one trains an AI just as there are decisions we make as we learn to drive in a game. Questions like "do I protect my position" and "should I dive into the corner at this driver" are questions we resolve around the track. Some of us avoid contact. Others seek it out.

Max Verstappen for example, too often seeks to create a situation where either his target yields or they both crash.

I am not a fan.
As has been pointed out, plenty of other titles (admittedly many on PC) manage to do this already without the need for rubber banding, some have been doing it for longer than Sophy has been around.
For this, one of the greatest things about Sophy is how dynamic the driving is during the race itself. The best parts about Sophy are not how difficult it is to defeat the AI but rather how well it drives and competes vs. pretty much any other AI out there.
Sorry, but I have to call that out, Sophy is still not great when it comes to racecraft at all, and certainly not close to being a benchmark in the sim world in that regard.
The rubber band allows the average driver to compete for a win.
It's a lazy way of doing it, and simply masks issues with AI, it's not required at any driver level and a good adaptive AI (such as Raceroom has) is a far better way of doing the same.
It's a 330 hp car with an 80 mph first gear. It is unable to do a burnout in real life.
So confidently wrong in so many ways.

The ability to exceed the rolling resistance of a tyre to a large enough degree to do a 'burnout' is a factor of rolling resistance and tyre grip limit vs torque at the tyre (not horsepower).

Let's do some (very) rough maths.

Tyre Grip assuming a mU of 1. Weight is circa 2100lbs, with a F:R weight distribution of 44:56, so that's roughly 588 lbs of load at each of the rear wheels.

The torque at each of those rear wheels is roughly as follows. 312 ft/lbs at the crank is then multiplied by the 1st gear and final drive ratios (and technically the wheel itself) and gives roughly 312 * 2.5 * 3.53 = 2753.4 ft/lbs, at the rear axle, and roughly 1,376 ft/lbs per rear wheel.

Yeah that's not going to have an issue in overcoming (significantly) the 588 lbs of load.

Thanks for the info, now,if there was a way to turn off the annoying emojis...

@TheNormsk Its a bit pants but its like it on other cars aswell.Cant remember which ones but its a bit of a pain.

There is a way: turn off the driver names and you’ll only see the Sophy emojis in the leaderboard, top left of the screen.

Bonus: this also disables the annoying sounds that accompany every emoji 👌👌

Tried Sophy, first at Le Mans, didn't see much change. Then in the evening tried again at Monza and it was better, quite challenging (i'm low A). With Boost off and Slip real. Maybe it depends on the track how human-like Sophy feels.

Did a few races on N24 yesterday and what I can say so far is:

1: As mentioned here already, the "indicator bug" is finally gone (if you race against Sophy).

2: In one makes, on highest difficulty and boost weak, Sophy is quite a challenge for an average driver.

3: Sophy behaves a lot less stupid and seems aware of what's going on. I have a rather aggressive driving style and there are situations where the regular AI just bumps into me. I didn't see any of this with Sophy so far. For example: Me trying to pass on the inside just before a corner. Regular AI always keeps racing line, which leads to a collision. With Sophy it looked like she would do the same at first, but in the last moment she seemed to realize I'm there beside her car and she adjusted her line and gave me space to avoid a collision.

So tried Sophy for the first time. A bug about Sophys tires always being Sport Hard, you say? Seemed like it as it was relatively easy for me to get in front with Sport Soft tires on hard difficulty and boost weak. Can i work around that bug or do i have to choose another tire for my car for competitiveness?

Like i said in the custom race thread, i had the opportunity to race against the same car as me and the Boost: weak and it clearly showed me that it's buggy and that there's less of rubber banding than when the boost is off.

In boost off, even in difficult conditions, she gives up very quickly when overtaken. (especially from the middle of the race)

In boost : weak, she never let me beath if it have similar performance to my car.
When I watch her on replay in boost weak, it's impossible for me to notice any rubber banding.

Oh and Sophy is clean and doesn't hesitate to fight all the AIs, not just the player, which makes the race very lively.

Sometimes she even makes rather natural mistakes, especially when there's a three-wide or when she's under pressure.

I think this update has clearly given the game a new lease of life...

What's missing, however, are more difficulty parameters to ensure that they have different skills when racing with the same vehicle.
(Oh and the rain and B-spec)
