I do not understand how is this car going to create any sort of aspirational feeling for the Mazda brand?
Maybe not this car particularly, but scrolling through the brand another may interest someone. Besides, it’s a car let’s say a player’s Mom drives. Reads familiar? :sly: Player scrolls through the brand, sees the CX-30, says oh wow didn’t think that car would be in there. Scrolls again to the RX-8 and realises they’d like to try the brand new or used.

Seriously, there were plain Jane cars in past games that went on to become customising icons. Not every car in the game created an aspirational feeling for a brand, but again, seeing that familiar car from the brand, another car in that brand may have.

Everything you've said is entirely fair, however I think many people wonder where the CX-30 conversation starts. Small and light hatchbacks like the Demio/Mazda 2 sort of make sense because they're very likely to be a Gran Turismo player's first car. They're also small and fun. So you can understand the thinking that led to their addition. But the CX-30 isn't exactly cheap and cheerful the way a supermini or compact hatchback is. So we're left to wonder why someone originally said "Let's bring the middle of the road crossover to the game". As I wrote in an earlier post, I suspect it's just part of a larger licensing deal. Something like "We'll build you a VGT car and in turn you'll include one of our basic road cars at a later date", for example.

It's not that hard to understand - you're overthinking it.

Go outside. Look at the roads. What do you see? Larger cars, lots of crossovers, SUV's.
That's why it was added. They're a large part of modern day car culture and ownership. I'm 99% sure Kaz has said as much.

I understand that as well. I think it's certainly a factor.

Have you put a good time in for the time trial?

The time trial running with it, with nearly 180k people are ok driving it ok?

Or just you don’t like it so it must be bad?
Calm down. I'm not sure what any of that has to do with... anything, but yes I have. I have driven the car stock, and at various different tuning levels (600pp - 700pp, mostly). It's just.... OK. It handles ok, but it gets terrible fuel economy, it sounds mediocre (at best), and it just isn't exceptional at anything. Let me say, this is coming from one of the few people that seem to like the actual car (IRL). I just find it underwhelming in game.

It is pretty fun in the dirt. Not a lot of power and wish it was 4wd but it’s still more fun than I was expecting 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've just done a 9 hours race in a R34 against a random field at Tsukuba and Boost off made the race. I would have stood no chance with Boost weak. The Porsche 959 and BMW M2 Competition in the race would have run away and lapped me at least 3 times. As it was with 20 minutes to go the three of us were covered by 2 seconds. The BMW pitted for fuel and the Porsche would have won but he ducked into the pits when the finishing line was right there in front of him. It's left me a somewhat deflated winner....
But isn't that the point? Like, the regular AI is a cake walk. If I have absolute confidence in winning, what's the point? I want them to try to run away with it.

That's what makes Sport Mode addictive. You start and say "ok, I need to finish (top 5, 1st, top 10, whatever your goal is).

What I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope for in GT8 is that they pull a page from Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP 2 (Yes, I am this old). What they did is give you a rival to beat. So, let's say you started last, you might have to finished 15th. That was a "win" for you, and you advanced through the game until you gained cars that could win. I would much prefer this to the simple podium finishes we have now.

If it were ME, I would reward the player like this

Bronze - 15th or better ( 7th for smaller fields)
Silver - 10th or better (or 5th for smaller fields)
Gold - Top 5 or better (or 3rd for smaller fields)
Platinum - 1st and for higher level races, hand out a ticket for the legendary cars

And bring back the handicap bonus from GTSport.

For you kids, here's the Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayrton_Senna's_Super_Monaco_GP_II

Wouldn't we all be happier if any M5 would've been added instead? Even the "boring old" NC Miata would've been FAR better than this POS CX-30 traffic navigator.
No? Sure that's what multiple want, but that doesn't represent everyone.

The fact that there is an annual gathering for the Renault Kangoo should be enough to tell you that.

I feel like GT has always been about being able to modify the ever living crap out of the car your parents own. Back when I was a kid that was likely to be a “crummy hatchback”, and here we are 20 years later with nostalgia for Peugeot 206s because of games like GT.

I think its fun to be able to pimp out the stuff we see on the road every day.

Definitely! There are even a lot of Mazda cars I‘d love to have in the game instead of the CX-30. What about the Cosmo Sport, RX-3, the SA22C and FB2 RX-7 etc. These cars are also much more relevant for Mazda’s history than a standard crossover.

But maybe, being relevant for Mazda's history (or any other brand) is not always the reason why a car is added to GT
Yes, I‘m aware of Kaz‘s statement regarding SUV‘s but I still find many of PD’s choices for DLC cars quite odd. But then again, they make some strange decisions concerning gameplay as well (doesn‘t change the fact that GT7 is still a fantastic game overall).

Vantage with SS tires is one of the most enjoyable cars to drive in the game. Excellent addition. Just enough slip to be fun but otherwise planted to the track.
Agreed, it‘s a fantastic RWD sportscar you can easily drift but the car still feels very stable, even with TC off.

Kinda ironic to have “Soul Red” as a colour for such a soulless car as the CX-30. A Cosmo I would’ve respected a lot, that JC from the 90’s has charm and soul (and the very first one, of course).

MMX
I bought two Kangoos, a Mazda, but not the Vantage.

I'm part of the problem.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I've had more fun getting the most out of the Kangoo (fantastic handling FWD!) in Custom Races, than I will likely ever have with the Aston, and as I've said before, I'm actually a fan of the IRL car. It's just not all that interesting in GT7. The handling is ok, but many vehicles in my garage handle much better. The engine sounds... meh. The fuel economy is so so... It's just not very interesting to me, personally. I'll probably get more use out of it as a drift car, but that's when I get around to it... eventually.

"When will the April prediction thread be started?"

It's literally the 1st of the month. Give it a few days at least...lol
