Gran Turismo 7 Update Arrives Next Week, With Three New Cars

Someone is apparently "preparing for the social media comments."
But I guess that would be the case regardless of what the update has or doesn't have. Could just be referring to the Unimog getting backlash for being weird, or the usual Sport Mode crowd wanting new race cars.

It could also be a hint at there not being a new circuit, which to be honest the known car selection for the update would make it a strange time to add one. I think new circuits are usually paired with something sportscar-and-up in terms of performance, and the closest to that is the BMW Z4.

So expect the 3 cars. Anything else is just a bonus.

Define "race car"

Because the game gives you all that is required to make almost every street car into a "race car", as evidenced by the recent DTM events.

That "fake" formula 1 has enough options to very nicely transform itself into a decade's worth of cars, all PERFECTLY balanced against each other.

The game also has all the ingredients for the current (Gen3) Australian Supercar Series, if you bothered to build one.

While this absolutely "looks" like a race car and probably sounds like a race car, it is in fact NOT a true race car.
And trust me, I am all about transforming road cars like this into what appears to be a race car but this game DOES NOT give you "everything" required to satisfy the desire of transforming a road car into a race car. For instance, the inability to add a roll cage ruins this entire concept. A simple addition (option) that is mysteriously missing from more than a few of the games cars. PD could go a long way in little details like this. Add a roll cage, have the option to "remove" badges and emblems, reroute exhaust dumps..etc.
In one generation of this series (3 or 4 maybe), there was an option to turn certain cars into bonafide race cars. One click and BOOM, race car!

Now that a convertible is coming, it might be a great time for PD to implement an option for us to freely switch between top up and down in these cars.

It makes way more sense than randomly having some convertibles set permanently with top up (Beat, S2000, Cappuccino) or top down (NA & ND Roadsters, Z8, S800).

Sure it’s a little extra modeling effort to put out, but it’ll be worth it.

The responses to this thread perfectly illustrate why it would be impossible to please everyone with each of these updates.

GT7 is a game with a global audience and car culture isn't the same everywhere - to us Europeans the Peugeot 205 GTi is an icon, as was the Cossie added a few months ago, but I can totally understand the bemusement of American players at cars they have likely never seen or even heard of as they weren't sold in the States.

And, if you look at the Japanese-language comments under Kaz's posts, they're often asking for 90's and 80's JDM, particularly kei cars. Most of those I've never seen in real life - I only know they exist because of older GT games!

Then there's the vocal community asking for more modern GT3 and LMP cars. It's a nigh-on impossible task to cater for everyone with the limited development time available.

(What is baffling is how often cars that no-one has asked for get added, like the Afeela, Himedic, VGTs etc. I must admit I'm Unimog-curious but it would have been way, way down my priority list.)

My pet peeve is the lack of British cars. No Lotus, no MG/Rover, no Vauxhall, no pre-1980s British Fords, just the one TVR all on its lonesome. It does sting a little bit especially when PD is making quite good progress adding every iconic French car I can think of.

This is a bit different to things like the Himedic and Unimog, I think everyone understands this one even if they don't like it.

The Sony video game about cars was always going to feature the Sony car.

I’m all for having older cars and the quirky stuff but if you’re also trying to be an esports game which mainly involves gr3 cars then i think you need to have a more update roster. By the time the asian games event takes place a lot of the cars will be well over ten years old.

The key thing is GT7 isn’t just trying to be an esports game. It is designed to cater to as broad as audience as possible. There’s supposed to be something for everyone but it falls short in that area. Not enough GT3 cars, shallow career mode etc.. We all know the flaws and shortcomings of this game.

I'm sorry, is this post sarcasm? Because it seems like sarcasm, but at the same time it seems genuine. So, just in case you are serious, I will respond.

Granted, cages are not available for all the street cars, but they are available as evidenced by the bright red roll cage I put in this BMW. If the line (for you) is a roll cage, then I guess PD should take note. You can also increase chassis rigidity.

The BMW 3.0 is also a great example of a car that can be swapped from it's street version over to its race version. The F40 is also a car that can be swapped from street to the F40 LM by adding wings, etc.

Also, the racing exhaust modification will dump out in different locations depending on the car. Maybe you haven't noticed, but changing the exhaust is a visual change as well as a performance and sound change. The most notable are the older Mustangs where the exhaust dumps out the side. Like, there is that whole "racing" section of tuning shop.


Now, should they offer up more events in single player and/or sport mode? Yes. That said, they do offer the ability for you to get some friends together and throw up a server. It's impossible to offer everything under the sun, and players will always want more anyway, but GT has always come VERY close to providing that.

Hey, depending what category are being used, we could very well get updated cars from now through to September 2026. PD only need to update these GT3 cars:

• Aston Martin
• BMW
• Chevrolet
• Ferrari
• Ford
• Lamborghini
• McLaren
• Mercedes-Benz AMG
• Porsche
• Toyota/Lexus GR GT3

The races could use anything. One Make Radicals.

The AMG in-game is as updated as it can be, there hasn't been a significant revision since the 2020 one we got a while back and the next one (based on the new GT63) is apparently not being homologated until 2027.

Everyone else? For sure, there'd be no complaints from me to see any of them.

So, all due respect because little details that are incorrect also annoy me, however to say that the Camaro or Mustang cannot be considered racing cars because of no roll cage seems a step too far for me.

It's a visual detail and it doesn't change whether the community can, or cannot, hold an event that mimics the Australian supercar series. The cars would be 99% accurate.

And in keeping with this discussion, every car that can have a roll cage in this game must be, by your definition, a racing car. So, we have hundreds of them.

I think a lot of these cars where planned to be in earlier, if not at launch. They probably haven't gotten around to 'requests'. Plus, a lot of people don't consider anything except for their wants when it comes to stuff like this. Like, where is PD supposed to get these cars from to scan or to reference?? Im sure PD wants to maintain a certain quality standard and scan POSs to "fix in post".

This is the upside benefit that comes from being in charge of your own game

This isn't a democracy, it's a dictatorship. They get to pick what they believe is in the best interest of the game, or to fulfill some other interest. For example, the Afeela is made by Sony and this is part of that marketing push.

If you ask 50 different people "what types of cars are the best fits for Gran Turismo", you'll get at least 35 different answers. It's not a question with a correct answer.

It's why I personally think they'd be better off with fewer but bigger updates. It's impossible to cover the whole fanbase's wants in three cars, so every update a decent portion of players will look at the silhouettes and go "doesn't have <X> type of car, nothing for me there" and be disappointed. And that's before you factor in divisive surprises like the Unimog or the Himedic or VGTs.

I bet if you ask 50 people if they want a real life track or 3 in updates you would get 50 yes answers. PD is sorely lacking in track updates.

Mercedes-AMG, however, plans to run its new car in un-homologated form next year in series such as NLS, which has the SPX category for yet-to-be-homologated GT cars.

“We plan to be in public competition, even without homologation, in race series where we’d be eligible, for example NLS,” said Wendl.

PD added the Supra Nurburgring ‘19 before being sold to customers, even though PD helped Toyota with the road car in the virtual world before it went on sale. Anyway, it’s my speculation, we’ll see. Got a ways to go til then.
