@I6sexus @Tired Tyres you too make good point that I don't disagree with but GT Sport will go on to sell millions, it's arguably the biggest brand in Sony's portfolio, plus they will likely push Pro and PS VR sales so they're really valuable.

I can see Pro and VR selling to those that only read "GTS coming 2017". If the game doesn't come this year, did those people waste their money?

Maybe not, if those same people bought 4k TVs and 4k movies, but losing faith in the GT franchise would have to be high on their minds.

Millions how at full price or bargain bin, Gt6 squeaked by to 5m but much of that was at heavy discounts.

Gt will push almost no Pro's OR VRs, Most dont or wont have TVs ready to at all take advantage of GTs/Pro graphics. And the Vr honestly sucks, basic low graphical games work but nothing remotly GT is going to work in Vr.

It WAS biggest brand in Sonys portfolio, NOW it does not even make Top 3.

@I6sexus 5 Million is a number most first party games would kill for, the rest of your post needs to be backed up by evidence.

And how many would kill for their top seller selling only 1/3rd of what it once did ?

Google GT6 launch numbers, they were pathetically damn low. Some markets were 1/5th of (GT5) sales.

4k Tv wont have even 50% of the market till 2020, So any Pro benefit is minuscule.

I had a PSvr, sold it. guess why lol

Gow3 Uncharted and TLOU all out sold GT6. Uncharted 4 hit 8.7 million.

You mean combined? GT5 sold over 11mio copies

my bad meant Gt6

Funny the last two Uncharted's i think out sold the last two GT. once upon a time two sony's game wouldn't even get near what one GT sold.

Now good chance it gets its ass kicked by Horizon or Spiderman.

No they didn't, please stick to facts.

GT6 was reduced to £19.99 very quickly indeed. Clearly it wasn't meeting Sony's sales expectations.

It released in a time where the PS4 is becoming a thing, so it is to be expected.

Meant Gt6, its a fact. Gt is now not even a top 3 seller in sony's portfolio.

NO, a GT game selling so pathetically was NEVER expected.

No it was not. A new console is not an excuse. Ever. As Sony pointed out themselves, north of 80 million users on PS3 verses whatever the PS4 sold at the time. Even if every single person who bought a PS4 traded in their PS3 to part finance the deal there would still be tens of millions more PS3 owners than PS4 owners at that time. It was a no brainer to release it on PS3.
None of which changes that it sold for full price only for a small period of time before being dropped to less than half price. If the latter doesn't tell you something about Sony's expectations nothing will.

Yeah you (or rather Sony) can't have it both ways. You can't say pre-release you're selling it on PS3 because of the huge player base on PS3 compared to PS4 then when it sells poorly blame it on the PS4 sales. It's one or the other.

I don't see there is any guarantee GTS is going to sell in huge numbers unless they bundle it. As it stands it's an online only title with a focus on e-Sports, a smaller number of cars and tracks and no real offline content.

For the millions of casual racing fans, what does it offer them over other racing games they might already have? It doesn't have the "1000 cars" like it used to do. It doesn't have the "start from nothing" single player career mode.

Exactly, its barely the GT we once loved.

And for the first time ever, GT has a rival which is indisputably better then it.

It has the name they grew up with, the backing of Sony, the graphics and the tech. Plus there aren't alot of racers on the PS4.

To many casuals, one may be enough. If they've already got Driveclub, or Project CARS, is what PD are offering going to be enough to buy two racing games? In the past it might have been, with the 1000 cars on offer over other games, but they've not got that.

If it had come out first, in 2013, things would be very different. Only time will tell.

@Samus Solid point but my counter argument is that they won't have bought PCARS or Driveclub.

Who hasn't? The ~11 million who bought previous GT games? Sure, they haven't, but what we don't know is if those ~11 million still exist. Would the absolute best, 1000 cars, 100 tracks, perfect racing game still sell that many? Do those potential customers still exist? We don't know.

How they market it once it's close to or gone gold will be interesting, i can't see it doing huge numbers if people have all the facts. So will they gloss over it not having no career and hope most people find out once they've bought it and just use the graphics to sell the game? This imo is what will be the main factor in its success. With all the facts i cant see why any non hardcore or sentimental fan would consider buying GTS. Particularly if they were not impressed with the last 2 outings.
It has the name they grew up with.
"Grew up" being the figurative word

Well the 10year olds that were playing GT6 will be teenagers now. What are they playing today? Or the 14yo back then, has graduated high school. Do those millions of players have time for GTS? Are a market of young people, that don't really care for automobiles, even going to touch GTS?

I'd love to know the age groups that bought each game in the franchise. I was 26 and extremely happy, that I could finally play a car game, from my dreams.

I was 13 when GT6 came out, now I'm 16 studying Motor Vehicle in college. I have plenty of time to play GTS. Most likely, when I buy it it'll become the only game I'll play for the PS4 because we all know how addictive GT games can get. Automobiles/cars are my passion. & GTS is only going to push my passion for racing & cars even further. But that's me, I'm not sure if anybody else will feel the same or can relate.

I bought GT1 when young for the same reason. GT2,3 & 4 were the three most played games I ever owned. I wasn't going to get a PS3 - I felt my console days where done. I was wrong. As soon as I found out a playable demo of GTHD was available to download I had to go out and buy a PS3 to download it. I couldn't countenance not owning a system with GT anything on it. GT5P was okay, GT5 was a grindy mess but at least was a proper GT game and GT6 well and truly ended my GT addiction. I bought a PS4 but GTS wasn't part of the thought process for getting it. My race game of choice now is Assetto Corsa which I will now support as long as it is made.

I certainly have less time now, just before GT6 released I had a child, second one is due next month. I still game but not the near 1 million miles I put into GT5.

Seems like two totally different audiences to be honest, I suppose if you view the two companies in direct competition it would make sense but it's not like the Switch is going to have a prime racing series to steal sales from Sony.

I feel like going up against the Switch launch is potentially not that smart however big your title is, and Gran Turismo isn't exactly the staggeringly large brand it once was. If it was me, I'd make damn sure that GTS released well away from that window.

@I6sexus Disagree, PD not only have a best selling exclusive, they have the technical know how to see hardware as well.

They have a best selling nothing at the moment. Maybe when they put out a game you'd have an argument.

@I6sexus @Tired Tyres you too make good point that I don't disagree with but GT Sport will go on to sell millions...

2 million isn't really that high a bar for a AAA title. And I'd has a guess that with what it's likely cost them to make, 2 million copies would be catastrophic failure.

...it's arguably the biggest brand in Sony's portfolio...

And to be fair, Sony doesn't have many brands left. Metal Gear and Final Fantasy have been gone for some time. They killed Wipeout all by themselves. Ridge racer? Tekken?

Sony doesn't really have that much left to call their own. And even less that's worth bragging about.

LMFAO MG and FF were never sony's, nor was RidgeRacer lol or Tekken. They only have some of the biggest console exclusives left in the industry In TLoU Uncharted God of War.

And bragging right, The Last of US is considered the greatest game in the last decade. The most awarded game ever.

Naughty Dog is the undisputed greatest game developer currently and has been for a long time, they are referred to the Naughty Gods for a reason in the industry.

Not much to call their own ehh

The Last of US
Uncharted
Infamous
Little Big planet
Killzone
MLB
Bloodborne
Detroit
Days Gone
Gravity Rush
Horizen Zero Dawn
Last Guardian
GT

Just a taste of the big sony owned Ips. YAhh not much to call their own for sure lolz

Switch conference just ended, its a joke. PS4 will annihilate it.

Horizon Zero, Bloodborne, Last Guardian and TLoU have one game. That's not a franchise. Days Gone and Detroit don't even exist yet. So really it's Uncharted, Infamous, LBP, Killzone, MLB, Gravity Rush and GT.

Maybe that's great to you. I think compared to the days of the PS2 and even the PS3, that's a limited selection at best.

Switch conference just ended, its a joke. PS4 will annihilate it.

Of course it will. But it's a much hyped system from Nintendo. You wanna sell stuff against that?

One game or not or development finished is irrelevant as they Sony are exclusives, which the discussion is about as you just said.

Sony has a ton of franchisees they own, but they tend to let their dev's move onto new projects not just force them to turn out the same thing over and over. Detroit is from guys who's made two prior Sony exclusives, and Days gone is from the maker of Syphon Filter, they been making sony exclusive games since the mid 90s and ohh yahh are sony owned. But hey anything to discredit exclusives since its blatantly apparent your opinion is quite false.

lol yes limited since i just posed the few big recent ones lol, PS4 exclusives **** on PS3s. I'm not typing up 100+ games lol, use google if you want.

Ninentdo the ones that just killed the failure called the wiiu, i wouldn't mind competing vs jokes like them actually. Switch 300$ for 1/3rd the power of PS4, good luck ninty you are going to need it. What ever hype they had they just torpedo'd with a really awe full ****** conference.
