Gran Turismo Sport Livery Thread and Discussion! (Read Original Post!)

Hey, if anyone can help me here, it'd be appreciated. The pillars on the buttress on the 2nd-gen Ford GT kind of double layer. So if you have a decal on the pillar, it will show up on the car body itself. Messing with angle and depth doesn't help too much. This is especially so with the angle limit. It seems to work at first but it leaves the edges of the pillar with a very noticeable mark from the decal under it. The panels are glitched tho that's for sure! The body panels on this car are glitched tho!

I've made a livery and managed to do it but it requires a lot of patience and trying every angle using the projection method "align with camera" and turning the camera in different places to see what works best piece by piece lol it took me hours but it's possible! You need to decrease the depth too in most cases! Here's mine

What it sounds like to me, is that the livery editor needs a bit of an update. A few more quality of life features.

Also, decided in the mean time to make a David Pearson inspired Daytona Cobra Coupe.

Edit: Holding off on the 2017 Ford GT with how garbage it is to edit on. Literally the editor can't handle the buttresses and craps itself on them. I'm fed up with throwing my camera into the wackiest positions possible with no luck. Polyphony, just update your livery editor

Nausicaä Team Toyota GR

With Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle) celebrating his 79th birthday this weekend, I thought this would be the perfect time to post about a livery I've worked on based on the manga and animated film that lead to the studio's formation.

Can't remember exactly what inspired me to do a third Nausicaä livery (the other two being based on the Hyundai N 2025 and Gr.3 Citroën respectively), but watching the film again last November and wanting to make a new scheme for my Toyota TS050 a few weeks later might have played a part in my decision. Theming a racing livery around a post-apocalyptic eco-fantasy sounds odd, perhaps sacrilegious, but I've always felt that this and Nausicaä's depiction of technologically-advanced aircraft would work well for something like an LMP1 hybrid or the fuel cell-powered N 2025. Indeed, the excuse I made for the Citroën one was that the original concept was an electric vehicle, but I digress...

While the first two attempts largely did away with sponsors, I wanted to make this attempt look as close to a realistic WEC livery as possible. Hence, while the car is transformed into something loosely resembling Nausicaä's glider, the usual class stickers and Toyota sponsors still feature where necessary.

Speed lines on the engine covers and main bodywork were developed from earlier 'Team Toyota GB' designs for the TS030 and TS050.

Also took the opportunity to try out gradient effects, which I think made the base colour ten times more gorgeous:

A wild fox squirrel appears (for those unfamiliar with the manga/film, that's the yellow striped thing on the headlight):

Something you might have noticed in these screenshots is that I appeared at one point to use both versions of the horizontal Michelin tyre sticker on the bodywork and rear wing. This was a mistake that was fixed in a second version uploaded moments before entering the race at Spa.

If you've seen the FIA threads, you'd probably already know how well that turned out :D:

Since the initial uploads, a couple more minor changes have been made. The Japanese Nausicaä logos on the shark fin and rear wing have been replaced with the full version, while the extra shapes placed under the 'thumbs-up' decal have been altered to better match the gunship's cockpit window frame. Won't pretend that this is a perfect recreation, but I was happy with putting in the extra hours to get it as accurate to that particular scene as possible.

Thanks for sharing these. And it’s always cool to have a detailed look at the backstory and the creative process!

Also mention for @Sian Megane, @Kelmac RUF CTR3 and @Panoz Supra from the previous page, great liveries!

@Sven Jurgens would enjoy this

@VulcanSpirit That livery looks awesome and very professional. Nausicaa is a great movie I've watched many times. (Not as many as princess Mononoke though ) I wanted to add decals of Nausicaa on my cars as well but didn't find any good source pictures to convert.

I can never figure out how to make it look good with logos so I stick to decals only. My favorite cars are the R92CP and 962C

I'm planning on doing the grueling task of making my own Princess Mononoke decals for Forza. There aren't that many out there when I looked, it's just San's mask and the Forest Spirit.

Plenty source material to choose from (if you could actually take screenshots of blue-ray)

At 136 minutes and over 144,000 animation cels, "Princess Mononoke" ranks in the top ten longest running animated films ever made. Despite this, Miyazaki personally reviewed and corrected all the key frames in the movie. It is estimated that he drew or corrected approximately 80,000 cels.

Thank you, Sven. :)

Most of the Nausicaa decals I used were put up on Discover by a user called NS20171124, whose gallery can be found here. The full Japanese logo was made by Xelamitsu (link here), the fox squirrel/Pejite crest by Chaos_LFO (links here and here) and the Ghibli logo by BSGathena, which I duplicated multiple times for a bolder finish (link here).

And yes, I contend that Princess Mononoke is a better film, but Nausicaa still holds its own in terms of charm and intensity, especially as far as its titular protagonist is concerned. Speaking of which, I have a couple of Mononoke-themed designs which I might get round to updating soon:

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20190724204732.png

And yes, those 'masks' were made entirely using default shapes. :)

Mononoke actually just got released on the Google Play store, so I could do screenshots from YouTube also (since my laptop doesn't have a DVD player).

Guess I'll add some of mine to the pile.

The first of what is a bit of a running theme with me, putting the wrong livery on the right car. Starting of we have a Marlboro livery from a Stratos making it's way onto this BB 512.

Next up a personal favorite. A Ferrari GTO which somehow got swapped at birth with a BMW. I was surprised how well the CSL's livery translated onto this one. I couldn't find a Lumitas decal though so that got replaced by the Trico decal, and any mention of BMW replaced with Ferrari (no matter how unlikely an Alpina Ferrari may be).

My original reference picture is eluding me so here's a scale model.

Bad idea followed through with bad execution, but they can't all be winners. The side decals just about ended up working, but the sparse sponsors left the car looking rather plain, and I just could not get the gradients to match up (the back ended up particularly bad).

This one has grown on me since, but still suffers from poor execution. A 2000GT bearing the markings of the Fiat Turbina. Well most of them anyway, the fiat name being omitted due to a lack of fins.

The next two are liveries for my personal, non existent racing team. Kinda basic, but they work for me.

A replica of someone else's modern throwback livery based on one of the old Roock Racing Porsches. I believe it's available as a skin for AC, either way I'd recommend looking at their other work.
