Speculation time!

Given the announcement of Fuji Speedway, here's some thoughts I've posted on a separate thread that should also be at home in this one.

I reckon we'll see two layouts drop with the addition of the Fuji Circuit. Naturally the GT layout but also the F as well, based on its inclusion in the previous two games. For those hoping for the 80s layout I wouldn't hold your breath as neither GT5 nor GT6 featured this layout. Shame really as I much preferred the flow of this variant. Why have so many classic circuits been butchered in the way of "progress" (*cough* Tiilke *cough*)?

I do wonder though, are Polyphony completely remodelling these new tracks or are they merely "remastering" old ones the same way we've seen with the cars themselves?

Speaking of cars, I imagine they'll be a strong Japanese theme to this months DLC. In addition there's always at least one Italian and one American car thats comes with new DLC as well. If I had to hazard a guess:

- New Toyota Supra: We have the GR Racing Concept already. Question is though, has the road car even been officially announced yet? We must be close. Considering this new generation shares the same platform with the recently revealed BMW Z4 it seems like the perfect time for Toyota to unmask their new sports car.
- Toyota Castrol TOMS Supra: Probably because it's such an iconic car for the series. I doubt it would make Gr.2 but maybe Gr.3 perhaps, though more than likely it will probably be just be another Gr.X runt. Makes for a nice pairing with the above Supra as well, especially given Polyphony's tendency to release DLC in mini themes. Every months DLC usually features a competition vehicle, so this Supra should satisfy that requirement.
- Remastered GT4 vehicle: So many to choose from. I'll take a wild guess so maybe the AE86 for all those Initial D fans out there?
- Acura NSX '91: THAT infamous screenshot for one (was it real? was it fake? who knows!). Of the few remain PS3 generation premium Japanese road cars left to be remastered. Also given the series connection to Senna it feels right to have this vehicle in the game (given his contribution towards its development).
- Lexus LFA: Despite the controversy with other games featuring Toyotas, Gran Turismo seems like the showcase racing sim for the manufacturers various brands. The LFA is such a milestone in Japanese automotive culture, much like the original NSX. If not this month then surely by the end of the year. Also because ex premium. That engine note however! Sweet God!
- Suzuki Cappuccino OR Mazda Autozam AZ1 OR both: Currently we're sitting at 3 Kei cars in Gran Turismo Sport. Whether we see the addition of both remains to be seen, but we'll definitely see one or the other quite soon. Expect additional Kei Cup races to be added as well. Racing these at the smaller Willow Springs tracks would be great!
- Mercedes 300 SL: Kaz I believe raced one in this years Mille Miglia. Last gen premium and probably the most iconic of the Mercs not currently featured in the game. More likely to be featured than say the SL55 AMG or the C63 AMG, both of which are a little dated now.
- Pagani Huayra OR a classic Ferrari: Excluding March, ever major DLC pack has featured at least one Italian vehicle. No major reason for choosing the Huayra other than the fact it's a premium. More likely than the Cizetta Moroder (too niche) or another Lamborghini (given that the Gallardo and the Murchielago are little dated when compared with the Aventador and Huracan). If not the Huayra, then in terms of classic Ferrari's either the Dino, 288 GTO or the Daytona. Knowing Polyphony though and their habit of doing truly baffling things then for all I know it might even be the new(ish) Fiat 500. But yes definitely something Italian, maybe even 2 cars?
- Alfa Romeo TZ2: Excluding February, every major DLC pack has also featured a 2,000,000 plus unicorn. We're almost done with remastering pass content, but the Alfa still remains. Could also be the token Italian car for the month as well.
- Something American: Much harder to predict this one. Again besides May, each month has always featured an American vehicle. Total speculation here but I'd go with either a:
- Chevrolet Corvette C5 or C6
- Plymouth AAR Cuda Six Barrel
- Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
- A wildcard. Sticking with the American theme and going off last months debut of a rare concept car, we could possibly see the return of either the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Racer Concept or the Plymouth XNR Ghia Roadster. Both vehicles would satisfy the usual trend of one American vehicle.

Oh and if there's new events to be added, then maybe we'll finally see a 90s JDM cup? 3 events, taking place at either Tsukuba, Suzuka, Tokyo and probably the new Fuji circuit.

Lets see what Kaz's silhouette tweet has to say this month. Hopefully he drops it BEFORE the DLC gets announced ha!

JDM (Toyota & Lexus) hype train!!

Anyone remember the GT-R Black Mask from GT5? We may get the prototype Supra in a similar form.

Like this Corvette too ?

I always wonder what's the point of wrapping or masking the models of those DLCs when they'll eventually make it into the game someday afterwards anyway. Is it suppose to thrill the players ahead for something new? Because I barely get surprised, unless I don't know anything at all about the new car coming out, which I could also like so much.

Time for a another look into the Polyphony crystal ball!

Just come off a 12 hour flight with an extremely limited movie selection, The devil certainly makes work for idle hands! Anyhoo figured out a few more patterns in the grand world of DLC. A few new things I've noticed:

1. Every major DLC pack since May has featured a remastered vehicle previously used in GT4.

2. Certainly countries almost always get a look in. It's very probably you almost always get a vehicle from at least 3 of the following: Japan, Italy, Germany and the USA. Not including the "off months", Japan usually gets the most at an average of around 3 per DLC pack. Italy is the second most popular, averaging around 2 a month. The US and Germany average at least one a month.

3. Competition vehicles are usually pretty numerous, usually there's at least around 2. They either come in sets (Group C, Super GT, Historic Racing) or are entirely random.

4. Tuner vehicles tend to drop every 3 months. We should be in store for another next month I imagine.

5. We've yet to see any GT300 class vehicles. I believe they may slot in rather cleanly into Gr.3, as GT3 cars have raced in GT300 before, so BOP shouldn't be too much of an issue. Might make for some nice surprises, such as the GT300 variants of the Autobacs Garaiya and Subaru BRZ. Would certainly mix things up a bit! For those in the know, would the infamous Castrol Toms Supra have a race pace comparable to the modern GT300 class?

As for the main event, have a gander below. I guarantee it won't be 100% correct and variations will be inevitable but your looking at a pretty solid estimate of what's in store till around Easter next year. After this point it's get a little harder to predict as there's only really outdated vehicles left to choose from. From interviews I've heard with Turn 10 re Forza they've always been cautious with adding the older but not quite classic content (00s vehicles that debuted in the PS3/Xbox 360 era). Do Polyphony also think along the same lines?

Some commentary to go with my predictions:

Patterns
I've based the above on a number of things:
- Minimum numbers for Japanese (3), US (1), German (1) and Italian (3) vehicles.
- A minimum of 2 competition vehicles
- A remastered GT4 vehicle
- The occasional tuner vehicle dropping every 3 months

Mini themes
Knowing Polyphony have a tendency to match similar vehicles with one another, I can see the following come to pass:
- LMP1: Bentley Speed 8 and Audi R10. The last of your premium LMP1s. Maybe even the recent Le Mans winning Toyota could possibly drop as well?
- Kei - The Suzuki Cappuccino and Autozam AZ1 would make for a rather nice pairing. Expect to see addition Kei cup events.
- American muscle - The Cuda, TransAm and Camaro Z28 would all make for a nice trio. Possibly additional Stars & Stripes event or maybe even a special muscle car related event? There's been specific muscle related events in the past so it could happen again. Polyphony are wonderfully predictable when it comes to recycling past events. I swear I've seen some of the logo graphics in GT League as far back as GT3.
- Classic sports - Another nice trio in the form of the BMW 507, Mercedes 300 SL and the Ferrari 250 GT (the last of the unicorns - sounds like a rather catchy film title ha).
- GT300 - 3's the magic number isn't it?
- Pagani - The Huayra and Zonda of course
- Renault - The R8 Gordini and the sheer awesomeness that is the mid engined (!) Clio V6

New and remastered
I've only predicted 3 vehicles. Both the Pagani and Lancia seem like a given, but the LM winning Toyota is surely going to drop at some point. This race car is a HUGE deal for Japan given how long it's been since the 787B won back in 1991. Lets not forget how arduous it's been for Toyota as well. I'll eat my hat if it doesn't make into GT Sport.

As for remastered. The AE86 and Fairlady Z seem like surefire bets given their prevalence in Japanese car manga. The GTO seems to have like a million variants in past games. If the MR2 and Z300 are in then surely this is on the cards also.

Conclusion
For me the big question is - What happens when the vast bulk of essential GT6 assets are imported? We've been extremely lucky to get such a huge range of unprecedented content at no extra cost. From a business perspective I can see DLC going dry from around Easter onwards. At this point do Polyphony hold back content for the inevitable GT7? GT6 launched with around 150 new cars and 7 new track environments. Can we expect something similar for a future release, incorporating the eSports focus of GT Sport? I'll say this, I'm very excited for the next iteration of the game. I reckon we're looking at potentially the commercial and critical high point of the entire franchise, thanks to an expanded track and car roster with consistent assets and a deep and involving campaign - just please fix the AI!

Castrol Supra would be in GT500. It's raced against every Super GT500 and the '08 GT500 cars, since GT1.

I believe one of the last GTPlanet interviews, Kaz mentioned not adding new manufacturers in GT3/Gr.3. So, I wonder how that would look, if that Bentley LMP were introduced in this game.

You forget S13? :(

How do you motivate not adding fast audi's, like rs4-6, to your conclusion?
or the Mercedes w201 Evo, all cars that have been in previous editions, rs4 and the evo since gt4 and the rs6 since gt5, of these games.

Very reasonable guesses! Seems that PD skipped the Oct DLC due to the National Cup and the Dec one will come in three or four weeks. This is something about guessing, hoping, hyping or so and PD didn't let us down (except the pick-up).
I would like to make a list of all the DLC cars and tracks and try to find some clue.

I can certainly see either the two previous generations of Audi TT returning. Both would fit in rather nicely on the Tourist Trophy event which is essentially a one model race right now. The original performance wagon, the RS2 Avant, an old standard, will probably drop in GT7 but there’s way more important premiums from other marques to be worked on first such as the LFA, Huayra, 300 SL and so on. I can’t imagime there’s much demand for an RS6 when compared with those. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m sure it’s a great car. That E class Merc is ripe for a remaster though, something to give the E30 BMW a run for its money.

How do you know the cars? Is it a guess?

Of course, it's also worth noting that Forza Motorsport launched with over 500 more cars than GT Sport. It'd be insulting if PD tried to charge more money for them.

That is true. What is enjoyable the most though is that chances are, we aren't gonna get charged a single cent for extra cars. Though our time will be used up with this economy. Even money in GT Sport is hard to get once you've completed singleplayer events...

New to Gran Turismo: The Ferrari F50 and the McLaren P1 GTR. Details will come when the teaser comes out.

Last time Forza did it was in Forza 5 back in 2013-14, since then every DLC contained entirely new cars.

I read an article last year where Kazunori stated GTSport is in fact GT7 ( name was changed so people would not expect it to be another traditional GT game ) and GTSport will be the foundation for the franchise going forward. It sounds like they plan to just keep adding content to Sport instead of creating new stand alone games. Seems a lot of people think this game is another prologue and not the next GT game.

I’d be happy with Gran Turismo if it developed into a “game as a service”. Thing is, how on earth would Polyphony make any money going forward? Surely they’d make more profit from another physical release rather than the inevitable paid for DLC.

Also would the next entry be GT Sport 2 or GT7? Or simply just “Gran Turismo?”
