I’ll be curious to see what they do with this round - being that the majority of the player base didn’t get to participate. Either they delay Spa until Saturday, or they give us another round
I am curious as well. I don't see them rescheduling it (although that's what I'd prefer cuz I'd love anohter shot at it). They'll either just eliminate 2nd round points from the series, or in typical PD fashion, do absolutely nothing at all. Those who didn't get a race in, too bad so sad deal with it. Since the issue wasn't a PD issue, rather a Sony issue, PD may feel less obligated to give two figs.
…10 laps of dynamic weather at Nurburgring sounds about right 😎

Speaking of wet, has anyone done TT laps at Spa yet? How's the new dry-line-physics vs wet line? PD toned down the slickness of the dry line in the last update.

I'm guessing all entries will get some credit compensation or the round will be ruled defunct.

Neither really matter, and I'm skeptical that they would move the round. It was always one in an exhibition where there wasn't a lot of data to be gleaned in the actual racing as it's a fairly easy combo.

I only did a few laps earlier and it was wet with the radar showing it was going to stay wet so I can't really help. Will try a longer run in a while, just had a pit stop to watch Ireland beat Scotland in the rugby 🏉 😀 👍

Looking at my friends list that of them that have done laps are in the 2.26:000s but the top times are 2.18:s/16s so I'm guessing like before there is race pace bs QT pace and none of my friends have done long enough sessions to clear the water.

This one doesn't bode well for me.

If this past round was round 4 of 4, and all rounds were required to score I could see them rescheduling, but as 3 rounds are required and there's still two remaining I think they'll just wash their hands of it. It wasn't an outage on their side of things after all...

I haven't done Spa specifically yet, but the wet running I've done in general suggests that while the racing line is certainly grippier than the ice rink it was pre-update, there is definitely still more grip off-line.

Whether the difference in grip is still enough to consistently make up for taking a fundamentally slower line is an exercise I don't think I'm skilled enough to judge.

Had a few laps of free practice in spa. Starts wet with rain, after 10 or 11 laps you can swap to hard tires and after 15 laps it's more or less dry. Tried inters and wets for the first two laps and inters were a second or so faster...

Well... thanks, but I think y'all missed what my question was. It wasn't when does the track go dry, it was how slick is the dry line while the track is wet. PD changed the dry line physics on a wet track.

I am in the same boat as Nakano: I'm not skilled enough to do laps on the dry line in the wet, then compare them to going on the wet line on a wet track.

I mean you could drive and figure it out for you.

Like do 20 laps or wait in the pits (it doesn't dry as fast doing that)

Not missed the point more not answered your specific need 🤷‍♂️

Just to be really really obvious, it depends on how wide people are clearing the line there is the narrow racing line which you are more than capable of driving. There is the racing line which is wider as people move around a bit more.

This isn't your first rodeo, so well thanks :/

Edit: to answer your specific question the track is about 4-8 seconds quicker and IM is the way to go 👍

Huh? I honestly don't understand the tangents you've gone on.

Wet track, dry line vs wet line. That is it, nothing more, nothing less. Not asking about a dry track, or a drying line as the time goes on, or which tire is better. Jump into the TT as it is (yes, IM territory), which line is faster? PD just changed the physics in 1.55 of how the cars respond to the dry line while on a wet track.

You know there is still a dry line even if the track is soaking wet and it's pouring out, yea? Ie, the line one would take through a turn if the track was dry; that racing line still exists when the track is wet and still called the dry line (cuz that's what one would use in the dry, not because it is dry), but is often more slick due to rubber deposits. Maybe that's where the confusion is.

And, as I mentioned: "I'm not skilled enough to do laps on the dry line in the wet, then compare them to going on the wet line on a wet track."

Basically impossible to tell on replays as all the top runners have waited until the track is completely dry to get the best times. Those who practice on the wet track (like yours truly) are so far down the list for obvious reasons there is no replay. So, I can't just see what lines the aliens are using, unfortunately. This is the first rain race we've had since the 1.55 wet-track-dry-line physics update. The Nations race at a soaked RBR, the dry line while it was raining was like being on ice. PD have backed that off. Just wondering how much and if taking the dry line is faster now than the wet line.

If it wasn't clear to all before, maybe it is now.

But mate you have to drive to what "you" feel.

The grip is variable, and for people running a different pace it's different.

I was very direct because you were a bit rude and I can't drive for you. If you want certain answers you gotta kinda just do them for you.

I didn't go on a tangent, more the question was something that is objectively hard to nail.

No issues and I like you, but that last bit with thanks but no thanks was disingenuous.

I don't know how you drive and you're a faster driver with lots of experience.....so the margins you want I can't give nor can anyone else bud.

It is impossible to tell on the replays....and opinions are worse than replays, just drive it.

We are friends but can disagree and argue and that's fine, no hard feelings.

I was looking for the Daytona race but no PSN during the european races. It is still a pity but I went with my all-american second account and went for the first race of the day.

It was just enough time to sign for Ferrari, too, and created a basic livery. As I don't use this second account often my driver rating is E/S! During the qualifying I felt a difference in racing behaviour in comparison to my usual C/S.

I qualified 4th and wasn't happy because I got into traffic. Door 5 and off we went. I guess that the guys in front of me were also underway with their second account as they got the same bad rating and fast lap times. Quickly after the start the guy with the NSX got lost and we went for a very italian event.

The first half of the race was very intense and close racing as I like it. There was minor contact but nothing bad and everybody tried their best to keep it clean. Thank you, guys! It was good fun.

That's shortly before the Lamborghini spun and the Alfa pulled away. At second position I decided to pit rather early and take fresh tyres to attack again at the end of the race. I wanted to go the safe route without losing to much time.

After the pit stop (...) I decided to check the fuel in a clever move. 😂 Yeah, there was one lap left at the end of my fuel and I immediately had to save fuel over the last two laps... No attack but crawling to the finish line I did secure my second place. In a second try I would have went for a short stop without tyres and fuel but I went to bed instead.

It was nice to get this race but it was different to what I could expect with my main account. Spa is always great but a very long wet race will be difficult to me as I tend to make wrong decisions... See ya (if I will be at home in time)!

Between the PSN and power outages, I only managed 3 races for R2. However, the first race of the night for me, I TQ'ed and won. The first time I have won in a PD sanctioned online race. I started trying in GT5.
Just happens Dodge did the same 25 years ago.

Replays are shared. I would like to have seen cleaner racing, even from me. Maybe something we all need to work on.

I think so too. It's just Exhibition season. Not much to care about for them... That's a little disappointing, because I was looking forward for that round. Looked as pretty fun combo. But it is what it is, carry on...

Round 5 has been added to the schedule for a week on Wednesday, a copy of Saturday's round 2 at Daytona.

The scoring is now best 3 of 5 rounds; they don't say it explicitly but it seems round 2 scores do still count if you were lucky enough to get in.

Geez... It seems that I was a little bit too early with my post or someone there is actually reading this thread 😂

I'll gladly eat crow on my previous assumptions. Glad PD is actually paying attention and doing something about this. Like others mentioned, would've been so much better to do on a Saturday but at this point I ain't complaining. Fair play, Kaz... fair play.

I understand what you’re asking: it’s better.

The racing line still has less grip, but it’s much more drivable. From what I’ve experienced in FP, you can use the racing line through corners and survive without crawling. It’s more like you’re on degraded tyres. It should make for better racing.

I'm glad we get another shot at Daytona, a Wednesday race may not be ideal for some, but at least we've been given an option. I've been practising for round 3 at Spa, and that is going to be one of the longest races I can remember in a GTWS Round. It's similar to the 20 something laps at Suzuka we did with dynamic weather, not so long ago. 30 laps with rain, is at least an hour and 11 mins of race time (excluding quali). Driving the Lambo is fairly enjoyable in the rain, but as always with these dynamic weather races, the risky part is the change over from rain tyres to the hard compound. If you come in too early, you'll increase the risk of wiping out on a wet part of the track (or on an apex), and if you come in too late, then you could lose at least 5 sec a lap. The new tyre model doesn't shred the rain tyres as much as it did previously, if you're driving on a dry track. This should negate the mistake of staying out too long on an Intermediate/rain tyre and suffering severe degradation. I can only do one or two of these races per night, as they are such a drain on concentration levels. It's also hard to pin down a specific strategy, because it's hard to say at this point how fast the track will dry, with all the cars on the track. Practice lobby settings aren't always accurate, compared to what we'll experience on race day. More testing will be done tonight.

So is Spa just 10 laps of rain then it starts drying out? Dry to the end? That actually sounds really boring.
It's seems scripted or dynamically scripted at best, so you might get a few different scenarios. The only races I remember having genuinely random dynamic weather, have been at Nurb 24, where sometimes it rained or the track remained dry. I don't think this is the case at Spa, for this particular round. Or at least is doesn't seem that way from what I've witnessed so far.

I strongly suspect this is a re-run of the 2022 Manufacturers Grand Final at Monaco. They did a half-length 15 lap version of it as a special event at the time. It started off slightly in Intermediates territory, got wetter for a little while then started drying up after 9-10 laps. I've still got the recording I took from that race and the starting surface water and weather pattern look the same.

The full length race at Monaco started raining again around the end of lap 19/start of lap 20 and stayed wet until the end. Notably, the rain ended up being heavy enough that the teams who went for full Wets ended up doing better than the teams who went for Intermediates.

Bang on, I just did a practice session after a 20 minute pause in the pits. The weather I saw matched your description. It seemed border line for Wets or Inters for the last 7 or 8 laps. I'd have thought with other cars clearing the track it might have been more Inter than Wet territory. But if it's wets is that worked best for the finalists, then I'd go with that option.

Did 30 laps in practice. Obvious caveat is no fuel or tyre wear and only me on track

Gran Turismo™ 7_20250211202548.jpg

Pitted on lap 13 when the inters stopped improving. I'd say with other cars the track should dry faster and make the crossover happen earlier. Hards felt pretty consistent. Pitted on lap 19 when it became obvious the rain was going to be too much for another one. It started off fairly light but the wet tyre was the only realistic option. I pitted again on lap 23 because I had damage after binning it out of Stavelot.

If the race follows this pattern then it's I/H/W, the laps you pit on will depend on how brave you are.
