Whats the tire strat for GT1 guys. I definitely can't make mediums last beyond maybe 8 laps, and something tells me hards won't last me 16 laps for a 1 stopper?

Well you just have to somehow make a one stopper work (hards-mediums or mediums to hards), since a tire swap + pitstop without refueling is 20+ seconds. 9 mediums-15 hards will still work too, the hards last pretty long.

I see...I'm going to have to practice a little more with brake bias all the way to rear I guess :)

(GT1 first slot in VR)

I think I managed to take a step off the downward spiral of back-to-back-to-back horrendous races I've been having today. 🥳

My qualifying was absolutely dire as I flubbed both laps hard and could only achieve a 2:19.092 when my free practice best was a 2:17.674. I pulled it right back in the race though.

Starting P13, I slapped the Hards onto my GT-R and was dreading the chicane start, only to then be very pleasantly surprised to discover I was starting on the start/finish straight. Props to Polyphony for (finally!) trying to address the issues caused by being in certain positions for rolling starts at tracks like Spa.

Lap 1 saw me near immediately gain a gap behind as P15 bumped into P14 (who lightly bumped into me) at La Source, pushing both a bit wide and giving them both poor exits on the run up to Eau Rouge. An Italian GT-R a couple of positions ahead was fighting with a Spanish GT-R and ended up going off at turn 10 (No Name?), so I picked up a position there having enough overspeed to get the move done into Pouhon. I'll admit I had a slight chuckle since said Italian had divebombed me from orbit at Grand Valley a few weeks back and used me to make the sharp seafront hairpin. :mischievous:

Moving onto the Bus Stop chicane, a Ukrainian McLaren got it all sorts of wrong trying to make a move on a French GT-R and went off the track. He ghosted whilst rejoining so I snapped up the position.

Fast forwarding on to lap 4 and the yellow flags were out at turn 10 as the leader had binned it. No positions gained, but due to how things played out it led to a bit of a bunch up when a British GT-R served a track limits penalty. I had to brake slightly going into Blanchimont as another car pushed him wide and I couldn't get through, then he was very unsteady going through the Bus Stop. I ended up with the Ukrainian closing a big gap and right behind me as I tried to safely navigate around it. I think there was the lightest of contacts between me and the Brit in the chaos and he ended up exiting stage left whilst heading onto the start/finish straight. Thankfully no penalty there, as I was terrified it was going to come down on me hard for simply trying to avoid him.

The original leader then binned it again at La Source on lap 5 and rage quit. The Ukrainian was now slipstreaming me hard down the Kemmel Straight and went for a pretty ambitious dive into Les Combes which I'm glad I saw coming, so back down to P10 but still running safely.

On lap 9, the Ukrainian made a similar dive on another Brit at Les Combes but that didn't go anywhere near as cleanly, pushing the Brit off and almost spinning him out. The Brit trying to catch the car then almost pushed the Ukrainian off. Just the kind of thing you want to be right behind. :scared:

Things got even spicier on lap 11. A British Supra who had been running much further ahead had binned it at La Source and fallen back into our group. With positions shuffling around at La Source, I got a front row seat to watch the British Supra and Ukrainian almost take each other out at Eau Rouge, snap up 2 positions at once then run off into the distance a bit whilst the two of them went crazy at each other in my mirrors.

Now up to P6, I carried on until lap 13 before pitting for my Mediums, emerging in P8 behind the Brit that the Ukrainian had pushed off (who I just found is also from East Yorkshire - I guess I know who I'm fighting now for the local area bragging rights since we're currently #1 and #2 ). In the race I thought he was now on Mediums since he'd started quite far back too and I'd been doing about the same pace as him during my first stint. The joys of VR not showing pit stops unless you're in one yourself... It turns out he had actually started on the Mediums and was now on Hards, but had been doing a lot of short shifting. That would have been useful to know!

He went deep into turn 10 so I got past into Pouhon, defended the inside at the Fagnes Chicane and then ran away at Stavelot, with the British Supra also getting past at Stavelot.

The British Supra's pace was far better than mine so he ended up getting me as well not too much later... but that story isn't over yet. From this point onwards I was just pumping in laps. I did take a position after catching an ailing German Supra who had been quite far up but had absolutely destroyed his tyres, going 8M/16H (and ending up with a completely red Hard tyre by the end of the race), but other than that not much happened. I was up in P6 and thinking that would be where I end since the Brit was running away.

Except... someone had massively misjudged their fuel and was in panic mode desperately trying to get home without stopping again! The gap came flying back down throughout lap 23 and I charged straight past the Brit on the Kemmel Straight on the final lap to take P5 for 195 points. :D Watching the replay back, he actually ran out around Blanchimont and then ended up losing another position before getting across the line.

Has anyone tried the 2 stop? Driving on the hards with the Toyota is just brutal. I know it's a long pit stop as usual but the gap for me is 2-3 seconds, it almost seems like it could work.

Nations Cup Rd.1 @ Spa -- GT1 class (Mixed A/A+ lobby)

Well. Kinda deceived by the results to be honest. I went in with the Supra and gave it all I had but only qualified 12th.
I decided to go with the 14H/10M strategy for the race. Clean racing, no punctured tires but couldn't do better than a 9th place in the end. 162 points. Not bad, but far from my usual 200 pts objective. Tire wear was brutal tonight:crazy:

Good Luck and stay safe friends😎 -Vex

Couldn't make it home in time to GT1 sessions... It's at 18h, 20h and 22h around here.

They could plan one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one at evening maybe...

A little more practice with the hards and, yeah, the 2 stop is definitely not worth it. Also the Toyota is just really bad on tires, I recommend the GT-R instead.

Went with the GTR as a last minute decision and very pleased with how it went.
GT1 18:00 slot in a low A/S lobby with only 188 points up for grabs.

Did okay with qualifying and got within ~.5 of my practice laps which put me in p6 on the grid.

Did the 14 hard / 10 med. and I wish I would have done one more lap on medium because they were way better still at the finish than my hards that had 14 laps on them.

Lost plenty of places in the beginning laps as the hards were a handful. As far back as p11 and by the time I pitted after lap 14 I was in p2

Came out of the pit in p11 and went to work on trying to make places. A few pitted after me so those were free and close racing started again around lap 20. By then I was p8 and had a scuffle in front of me and one went off and I got by the other car shortly afterwards.

Final 2 laps p4-6 were all together. Final lap p5 came inside p4 and they both held it but p5 had gone a little wide and got a .5 penalty. As we came out of the chicane on the finish straight he spun but had the penalty anyways so I got by in p5 which would’ve been where I finished at any rate.

Fun race and 24 laps was good fun. It went by fast even though it was nearly an hour long.
157 points and felt good having a race with no off tracks or crashes 😁

second go in GT2, drove the Genesis this time, good speed on the straight. I Qd at P10. In the race, I was running faster laps that I did in the audi, but it was a faster lobby as well. I actually had a couple laps faster in-race than my Q time, I really need to improve on qualifying in the future. And an elbows-out lobby, some of it a bit more than just hard driving if you ask me, Still, finished P9 so improved a few points from this morning.

16 of 16 finished, no DNFs

Next race looks pretty similar in terms of strategy, 2 stops with 2 different compounds, might take a bit of saving to not end up with trashed tires. Luckily the soft/medium gap isn't nearly as big as the medium/hard gap. Oh, and with juuuust a tiny bit of fuel saving you can make it without having to refuel at all, so that's probably a good idea.

Once again, in spite of always having decent pace at Spa, I can't get a good result here to save my life.

Slot 1: Instead of being in the middle of 2nd Split where I belong, I got dropped into 3rd Split with by far the highest DR in the room and 1 of only 5 drivers at DR A+. Thanks, PD. Anyway, the first 5 or so of us got stuck in a protracted battle for the lead until the first 2 managed to break away and completely run away from the rest of us. I finished P3, a distant 31s behind the winner, for 221 points, which was nowhere near good enough since that would've been near the bottom of the split I SHOULD'VE been in.

Slot 2: PD FINALLY figured out which split I was supposed to be in, but unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to drive. I got a penalty at Eau Rouge on my 2nd qualifying lap, so I was stuck starting 13th of 15 when I should've started in the Top 10. I then ran out of the little talent I still had during the race, first completely flubbing the shift to 6th in the GT-R on the opening lap down Kemmel, allowing a Supra to get up the inside before Les Combes. I then tried to hold position around the outside but just slowed myself down even further, before finally spinning at the exit of Les Combes on cold tires, leaving me DFL and 10s off the next car :banghead::banghead::banghead:. I'd just done this race! How did I manage to be this much of an idiot when I'd done just the previous slot?? Anyway I stayed in last until Lap 6 when I made up 3 spots in 1 lap due to other people having incidents. I spent the 2nd half of the race in a 3-way battle for 8th against 2 cars I was definitely faster than, but was unable to pass because the dirty air was horrendous. These things might as well have been 2021 F1 cars with how horribly they followed each other. I quit the race when we got towards the end and it became clear I'd run out of time to get anything near a respectable result, let alone the Top 5 I should've had.

Slot 3: Got put in Top Split and I knew immediately this race would be pointless, as literally everyone in the race was faster than me. I should've quit right there, but decided to go through with it in case somehow the aliens were just as stupid as I was today. No such luck... Qualified and finished 12th for a worthless 199 points. Spent over half the race staring at the back of a McLaren but once again unable to do anything thanks to dirty air. A completely wasted evening thanks in large part to the matchmaking screwing up my placement AGAIN (just like the first round of last year's official season), and my usual ability to become the biggest idiot in the game when a good result is all but guaranteed.

I find PD's explanations of the format very confusing.

Can someone please enlighten me if it is possible to skip rounds 2 and 3 as I am on holiday at the time.

According to the PD website, only the best 3 from the 7 rounds are counted is that correct? So can you definitely skip rounds without being at a disadvantage?

You are correct. :)

The problem with 55 minute races is that you still have absolute mouthbreathers who will try to punt you in the last few laps for having the audacity to pass them.

I just came across this guy in the GR cup. Exact same thing, just tried to push me wide a few times then punted me off. We were battling for p9 for god’s sake.

He will be a “punt on sight” player from now on.

Have PD messed up here with the points system?

So this was a hot topic of debate on a live stream and now that I’ve seen the issue side by side with the same slot but 2 different splits, the points system in my view is totally wrong.

EMEA GT1 4pm race Split 1 & Split 2

Split 1. Split 2.

As you can see the winner in split 2 got more points than the 3rd place driver in split 1. I think at least the top 5 in split 1 should be getting more points than split 2 winner I think.
I don’t have the points for Split 3, but I’ve been told the winner in split 3 picked up more points than P4 in split 1

Lots of people have reported him, the worst part is that he's not even an Australian, he's an American using an alt account.

I don't know how he made top split for TGR but it can't continue.

That driver should get a ban or be banned from the GTWS. Shame they is no way to report these type of players to PD!

Only thing I can think off is to for both you @ShiftingGears to send a tweet to Mikail Hizal with a video clip of both these incidents and he can forward on to the right people at PD. My only issue with this is though, I’m sure Mikail has better things to be doing with his time then sending dirty driver clips to PD because PD can’t create a proper report function.
(Admin i don’t know this goes against the forum rules so I apologies in advance, amd please delete or edit the relevant parts in this post)

Definitely needs a ban then. Rules state you can’t use multiple accounts.

And if you check the finishing times, it gets even more ridiculous.

I finished 5th. It feels like the shorter races are less eventful. No point trying a 2 stop, and tyre requirements meant everyone did a 1 stop. Not much else to report so I didn't bother yesterday.

Surely a Saturday World Championship race should feel more special than a Daily C?

And if you check the finishing times, it gets even more ridiculous.
Split 2 winner was 15 seconds off top split winner (obviously weather and wind direction will be a factor in that time so can’t compare too much), but Split 2 winner would have finished P9 in split 1.

I can't see anything wrong. The points come from the overall DR of drivers in the lobby. I'd imagine that Split 1 and Split 2 would be quite similar on DR. So Split 1 would have slightly more points for each position but winning in Split 2 wouldn't be that far off Split 1. Sure it can be annoying but it's how the system works.

Yeah it's being dealt with

He made it into top split of TGR yesterday and no-one in top split especially has any interest in having someone like that on the grid when it might determine who goes to Amsterdam and who doesn't

I need to buy myself a Gr2 car to practice for the next race, any thoughts which ones to consider? Especially to suit someone new to Gr2, so not the most difficult of cars to drive.

Most people prefer the GT-R as do I. But within the 16 cars it's the most balanced class so pick one which suits you the best.

I may use the Audi here. Had a good run with it at Brands Hatch, liked the handling. I usually struggle in the Gr2 races so not expecting much, especially on this circuit.

Kinda glad GT2 has the shorter races - don't think I could cope with 30 laps of Fuji (or the 28 death chickens in a later round).

I think the Audi is the slowest car in group 2 by quite a margin.
