Practice a bit, qualify high up and pray you can run away.
Is running away even a possibility with the custom slipstream?

Not that I have any hope of accomplishing the first part. I've practiced, sure, but with my best time of 1:48.3, I'm not expecting I'll qualify that well.

Oh, well. Bring on the chaos!

Qualified 4th. I was close to the three cars in front, half a second ahead of 5th and very far ahead of everyone else. Survived the first lap then got put into the wall at turn 1 by a guy on lap 2. Never really recovered. Ended up 8th.

Practice a bit, qualify high up and pray you can run away.
What car did you use? Is the AMG the best car?

Well to say this is the worst beginning race of the Exhibiton 2 on the GTWS Nations cup is an understatment, this race was bloody bollox race from start to finish, I tried it twice and got good aweful abysmal racing and standings. PD should be ashamed of themselves.

This was horrible, all cars behaved so bad, poor tyre choices, wrong track choice for high tuned power cars. A lowly C lobby yes but the punting was horrendous, ghosting went out the window as I got punted in both races.

Race Attempt was with the NSX Type R
Race 2 attempt with the AMG GTR Black series

In Race 1, I got bumped and the game penalised 4secs, me for tapping a prosche even though i was shunted from behidn on turn 1. Wtf? I lose all momentum and tried too hard to make it back it up.

CLIP HERE:

In race 2, one guy went mental in a blue Audi R8 and and started punting everyone on the long straight, it was horrible and defo a clip to submit to plebs of the week!! Please avoid that driver at all costs, he not racing/gaming safely!

CLIP 2 HERE:

So so dissappointed! Hopefully Round 2 will fair better?!!

The 911 seemed to have been the car to use, I started 5th and finished 8th, would have been 7th but on that corner after the long back straight into the trees I went in the inside of an Audi and just tagged them as they turned into me as I had gone in a bit too deep, I couldn't stop and they had space but turned into me, anyway, I gave the place back but a 911 got through as well.

I don't think I would have done any better in the 911 as I didn't like it yesterday.

My SR went up but my DR went down, I needed to have finished 7th by the looks of it.

I just didn't have time to get used to the car, but I will take 8th it seems a fair result for me.

It is if this happens:

Lap 2, turn 1. The car facing the wrong way is me. 1st is just visible at the top of the picture. If anyone wants to see this for themselves, I shared the replay in-game tagged "gtplanet"

Your practice time would have put you 4th on the grid in my race, so you're definitely in with a shout.

I'm not sure how new you are at this but if you go to the ranking board from the Sport Mode menu you can see what the best times are and what car they're in. When I checked yesterday the first non-911 was a Supra at ~120 something.

Lol the Porsche cup was a bit of a fail for me, I was only able to do the 2nd slot thanks to work...

My qualifying time wasn't too bad, 1.46.9 (The best I managed in FP was a 46.4).....but it put me P10, with Guy Barbara on pole, and holl01 2nd. As expected, the start was carnage, I got turned on the tunnel exit but somehow gained spots. I got as high as 5th, but some intense mid field battles with guys like Meta coming back after a lap 1 incident dropped me to 8th at the finish and 220 points or so. Would have loved to go again, despite the first lap carnage, it was a really good combo. Shame the other cars weren't really competitive.

GT1 slot 1, 170 point A/S lobby

I almost didn't leave daily race A at the Ring to run this one as I wasn't feeling it, but made a mistake and ran it anyway.

Q12 to P11

Got murdered on lap 1, turn 1 and down to last. Fought back to as high as 7th and totally misjudged the slipstream and murdered myself in turn 1, lap 7. Down to 13th and barely managed to limp myself back to 11th.

One and done. Ugh.

The whole lobby was in the Porsche except for one poor soul in the F40. Poor matchmaking with the cars, PD.

First GT1 slot in the Americas (6PM EST). 185 points. In door #4, driving the Porsche.

Qualified with a disappointing 1:49.127, nearly a second off my best in practice, which put in Q14 to start.

gtws-nc-rd1-start.jpg

I got off to a poor start, and things didn't improve much. I managed to get up to P10 at one point, thanks only to crashes and penalties. Dropped back to last place -- which by then was P13 because of quitters -- as those behind barged their way by back through. Then another crash and penalty got me back up to P11, where I drove out the rest of the race for 108 points.

Glad it's over. I'm no good at Trial Mountain on a good day, but these cars just made it so much worse. I had no confidence in the car or myself in traffic. Couldn't get a decent lap in until the seventh, when I was finally able to find some space.

Now on to Watkins Glen. That's usually a rough track for me, too, especially in Gr.3 cars. Not really looking forward to it.

So I lied and went again. GT1 slot 3, A/S, 176 point lobby this time.

Q12 to P6

Other than a big pile up going into T1 and coming out unscathed, this was much more straightforward. Made up a bunch of positions, and having done the earlier slot, I could manage things much better this time around. Some good scrappy fighting 4th through 7th and no mistakes to bring it home.

Another sea of green Porsches save one lone AMG.

Terrible qualifying, 1:51, but even that got me to first place. Result: first place, best lap with 1:48 and 15 seconds gap to second place, I was only 1.5-2 seconds behind everyone else on the lap. Easy and boring race, waiting for the rating to be raised to C, then it will be more interesting.

Looks like the BMW M6s are dominating the leaderboard again for Saturday's race at Watkins Glen. I jumped into my Endurance model for a few laps of Free Practice earlier this morning. It seems I just suck at this track. I'm seconds off the disappointingly slow times that I was getting when we had this combo last year. I could only muster a 1:47. I'm sure that will come down with some practice, but I'm not holding out much hope of being competitive this round.

On a totally different topic, has anybody seen if there were BoP changes in today's update?

What a stupid race that was...What is the point of preparing 12 special cars just for one race and not even trying to balance them?! And at the end only one is actually competitive... Overall felling of those cars was awful, insane power and ridiculous braking distance completely destroyed flow of Trial Mountain. I think that set of cars which was used before was more enjoyable. This was rather survival not racing, not fun at all...

I was in that race. I'm sorry.

Got murdered myself and was banged into you; I waited to make sure you got ahead of me.

Agreed. It was a Green Porsche Cup for this round.

I did go two more times. Messed up in Q but wound up just off pole by .0xx each time. Was running well in the early part of the second race before someone used me as a corner assist. That driver wound up winning; I made mistakes and wound up 7th.

Last slot was a 168 point lobby and was second in Qualifying by .085 as I recall after I had a major mess up during qualifying.

Wound up winning (was a good close fight the whole way) and I'll try to post that tonight if there's any interest.

Was an . . . interesting race. Looking forward to Watkins Glen.

That's not true, I entered with a bought car in every race (except the first Daytona race that I missed...)
Of the same brand? yes, you can run your own car if it is the same brand.

Example, I run for Dodge. I can run my non-sponsored car in GTWS. However, I cannot enter a "cheater Toyota" in place of my assigned Viper GR3.

@Revengel i just watched the replay and i guess it was not T1 but T3 or so. I saw what happened with you and how you made contact with me. I almost made it through, but you had nowhere to go.

Really appreciate the sportsmanship, I would have done the same thing even though it wasn't your fault in the slightest.

Hope to see you out there again soon!

Since the BMW has been nerfed, I'm curious if it's still really the best car? Or were the times set prior to the patch?
I have noticed that PD goes through every few days to take out penalty laps. However, last I checked (5pm PST) the BMW still has the edge.

The way they’ve presented the info there isn’t the clearest. It’s better from the race info page in-game or on the GT website:

Hards and softs are available (the inters and wets are irrelevant anywhere in the Americas as it never rains there according to PD), and both types are required.

I haven't been doing a lot of practice yet for tomorrow's race, but I did manage to do one custom race in the BMW M6 Endurance model to find out how long the RS tires would last. I managed 10 laps, but there was just a hair of tread left by the time I got to the pits. I'm guessing 9 laps is probably the most I'd want to push it.

Perhaps a sign of just how bad I am on this track, my RH laps were only a couple tenths slower than my RS ones. I'm half considering starting on the softs and going for a huge undercut -- one or two laps on the softs and hards for the rest. Maybe I can avoid some chaos an pick up spots to drivers who crash. If not, it seems like 11-13 laps on RH and RS to the finish would be the conventional strategy.

BTW, for any Canadians who are looking for a national-themed livery -- it is a Nations Cup, after all -- for this round, I put this together for the two M6 models:
bmw-m6-canada-white-livery.jpg

It is shared with the tags #canada, #white, and #red. If you are driving a different car and would like a similar livery, let me know and I'll throw one together for it.

Ten laps is good! I did a lobby race yesterday and me and the car I was racing came in at the end of 6 I think... neither of us was saving tyres though, we were going at it...

Hards seemed around 2 secs slower but not as sketchy as feared, not sure if I want to start on them though...

That would be brave. I'd venture to guess the softs are ~1.5-2 seconds faster/lap than the hards. Even 75% dead softs probably on pace with hards.

But, take that with a grain of salt as I've not done any testing. But, generally speaking, doing a very early undercut typically doesn't work when going from RS to RH.

And even though I do'nt have the exact info, this Saturday's race looks to be a copy (or darn close to it) of a Manu race in 2023. At the very least, it was Gr3 at the Glen and 15 laps (in GT2) and after doing some TT laps yesterday the time of day seemed familiar.

In fact, I still have photos from that event to confirm time of day...
