Gran Tursimo 4 Delayed in Japan

September 17, 2004 - Sony Computer Entertainment's ultimate racer seems to have been hit with a slight delay in Japan. Originally scheduled for release this Fall overseas, SCE's official release schedule now lists Gran Turismo 4 for a winter release. This could place the game anywhere from December of this year to February of next year.

As far as we know, the game is still set for American release in November. We'll update you if this changes. Also, be sure and stay tuned to IGN next week for full coverage of GT4's Tokyo Game Show showing.

Yamauchi said GT4 would be released in the US before Japan in an article on IGN last week so this announcement might not mean anything. I just hope they don't rush the game out for the holidays.

OK, lets clear up some stuff here. There has never been an official word on the release date for GT4, for either North America or Japan. IGN is crap. The rumor that GT4 wont be delayed anymore came from IGN. Others reported what IGN reported, so it's still not known when GT4 will be released. The rumor was going around that GT4 would be released in November in North America, and then sometime in December for Japan. So, this could still be the case since winter starts in December. We don't know, because PD haven't said a damn thing to us yet. First IGN reports the game would be on time no matter what, and now they report it will be delayed. Proof IGN doesn't know jack-crap.

As I said before, IGNore IGN. But in this sense, it's a weird deal. So what's next? Metal Gear Solid 3's going to be released in Winter 2005 in Japan? The weird thing is that normally since all or most video games are made in Japan, normally Japan gets the game before others do. But in this sense, November is still slated for America according to IGN. If you ask me, I'm don't think this will affect the American release except if the American version has weird conflicts and bugs. So I don't think it's all that bad for the American release.

So as I say, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, players! As I read in a nine or ten year old magazine of Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM), America got some Nintendo games that weren't even released in Japan. I think one example at that time was "Super Punch-Out!". Anyhow, I don't see it being an issue for the American release unless something unfathomable occurs.

KY did say quite clearly GT4 will be released this year, where abouts it will be released this year we don't know but he did say this year and it wasn't too long ago either.

I am starting to get mad about this ****n ****y release dates, KY stated November was the target, so I guess in the Tokyo game show there will be 2 thins: either KY says its delayed to next year!!!!!!!!!!!!(hate that ****) or KY states it will still be released on November in America (I mean, we dont have prologue, GT concept, or those freakin demos that are in Europe, is the smallest thing he can do for us here in America)

Would you rather a half-assed almost complete game or a full on bells and whistles gleaming with finish and quality? Keep it back PD if you're fixing or improving it for the better I say !!

What makes the GT series so special is that it has avoided mediocrity. 98Cobra, cease your impatience, instead boot up GT3 and go and really improve upon your times in the SVT. There are many tracks to choose from…

The wait is unbearable but I think it's still worth it. With the current builds still showing room for improvemtn (like AI) I'd really want them to polish up the gameplay aspects before handing it to us. The one thing that bothers me is the lack of any new media. At least they can give us more screenshots to keep us drooling while we wait... at least it'll make this board a bit more interesting too.. give us sth to talk about

If the game was released in August, ask yourself: would you really like to play a game with less additions that it would have had, if it was delayed, this is the last GT for playstation 2, so PD are trying to make the best of it, the game will eventually come, but if its delayed more then that = more additions to the game, and less bugs, if they rush to release the game, it will end up like "Driv3r" so guys, please stop all this nonsense complaining, even if its delayed again, it will be for a good cause, and remember that you won't be getting any new GT games until PS3 comes out, and about a year after GT5 will probably come out, its better to wait longer for a more enjoyable game, god didn't put you on earth to complain, just wait like all the others.

Good points made. 👍 I think a delay might be good and bad. Good because PD might be adding more cars or more features. Bad because of a bug.
