This game is amazing, It still manages to look as good as the majority of next racing games that have come out... It's almost mind boggling, how PD managed to get a PS2 game to look this good, I run GT4 in 720p and have brightness and contrast set to high to give it a next gen look(it works) And i have plenty of friends, tell me "hey is this a xbox 360 game?" Goes to show how good and amazing this game still looks, And goes to show what dedication can do, things like head light and tail light detail, lighting, HDR effects, LED tail light shimmer effect(No game does this) HID head light color and regular halogen color, as well as yellow foglights(toyota supra) Dedicated detailed exteriors on all car, realistic reflections, the way paralesent, metalic, pearl and gloss paint job shine in the lighting engine...Just breath taking.....its just amazing how this game still looks amazing even in this new generation... and i have not even seen it running in 1080p yet...

And every time i play it, I'm blown away that it's a playstation 2 game, My hats off to PD seriously, they did an outstanding job.
👍👍

So does any one else feel the same way?

Every time i'm driving El Capitan and i come round the corner to see that giant rock in the background i'm blown away. The lighting on the Motegi courses is amazing too, GT4 still has better graphics than a lot of current gen games despite being over 5 years old now.

PD use a "special" PS2 programming way to develop GT4, just like GOW2, their "special" tools are provided by SCE...

BUT this way costs lots of money, no other companies like PD (the 1st partners of SCE) can do this...

Simply put an amazing game, great graphics. What GT5:P achieved is in a whole other level, but frankly, I wouldn't be too bothered if GT5's graphics were the same as GT4's.

To me, the first Gran Turismo still stands the test of time! :) Especially since I'm old enough to remember my very first console racing game: Enduro by Activision on the Atari 2600.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enduro_(video_game)

Spent many, many hours playing this crappy videogame! Compared to Enduro, GT was (and still is) incredibly lifelike, especially after I've been playing for a few hours.

I mean, yea, initially when GT first goes in the console, it looks like crap, but after a few minutes of playing (and watching replay) it doesn't matter any more. All the cars are recognizable.

Um, I play in a crappy SDTV and the game looks utterly beautiful to me, the lighting is superb no matter what def you're using. 👍

But the modeling of the cars is what makes my eyes glow, the R34 GTR is spot on to reality, I can't believe what PD did just using textures and effects. No one could done it better. 👍

Right, but then you are only saying that because you know the graphics will not be the same...

Wrong. Graphics aren't the only thing I think of when I buy a game, as opposed to many people in the GT5 subforum.

Look at my profile, the "Gran Turismo 4.5" group I made. Never do I mention graphics in the group description. I'm not one of those people that ask livery editors, damage, weather effects, etc, along with better graphics.

Graphics are still going strong, after playing more recent games I can switch back to GT4 and not be disappointed at all. Too bad my PS2 is slowly dying on me. Tempted to buy a new one just to play GT4.

Well, the only games you can compare GT4 to are Forza 1 and...that's it. I said Forza 1 because it was released in 2005, a few months after GT4.

GT4 can be compared to Gran Turismo 3: A spec as well. Matter of fact, GT3's graphics are actually a little better, a little more vibrant, than GT4's.

I'm loving my revisit of GT4 but ineed to get Component cables so i can use my LCD without it looking like crap, now im using a CRT flat screen with standard AV and it still looks great although i have to switch to 16:9 aspect so it does not look stretched.

(If I rebuy Gt4)..
Question, If I have the regular cables (Given in the package for ps2s), Can I run it on 720p? (I have a 720p tv, I was just wondering how the regular av cables could support it).
Is there an In game resolution setup or something?
Let me know,

(I used to own gt4 in 05, But I was 11 at that time and didn't really care about this sort of stuff. Good thing I still have my save file!)

If you want to run it at 720P you'll need component cables I think.

I'm running GT4 at 1080i and it's pretty nice considering that it is a 2005 game. It has an higher resolution than NFS Shift too.

Do you use component cables to run it at 1080i?
Is there some sort of configuration I have to go to, to get it at whatever resolution.
(my tv can run 1080i, but I find 720p a bit better in my opinion.)

You can't run 720p on GT4.
You can run either 480p or 1080i provided you have component cable.
You can't run either through the standard cable though.

Ok thanks for the help guys.
Il probably play it in standard 480i, The component cables go around $20, and the game itself is around $5 used. (Canadian)
