GT 5 way too hard for novices

I don't understand why people think this game or other GT game's are difficult. If you do all of the licenses and actually take time to learn the driving tips within them, it shouldn't be hard at all. Of course it's not an arcade racer so there's the point given. I mean come on, I'm at level 11 and i beat the Supercar challenge with a 350 HP 300ZX that is mildly tuned with about 50K or so.

If you think the challenges are hard, don't do them. The clue is in the title: challenges. Their very existence hinges on being a little bit tough.

Now look at one of the words used in A-spec mode: beginner. Are we seeing a pattern here?

I do think that the game is hard for those just starting out - but the GT series has always been that way. I remember when I first started on GT1, having never played a racing game in my life, I could barely string two corners together without crashing .

After a few years I got good enough so that I could qualify for the "9 Boards Championships" we used to run.

I've been away from GT for about 18 months and I do have to say that the new incarnation has been a bit of a shock to the system! There is a lot I don't like about the game (too much 'eye-candy' and not enought 'meat' for me) but the driving physics is a step up I reckon - either that or they accidently coded the grip co-efficient of each track to be like ice :embarrassed:.

I think the challenges are a ton of fun. Yes, they are kind of tough at times, but there's rewards behind the challenges. I think GT5 is easy to get through the basics at a bare minimum, but I try to get gold in everything. I've been around GT and racing games for a while, and find it a great challenge to complete the game right up to the platinum trophy.

The TG Samba Bus challenge is easy to pass, and still fairly easy to gold as well. You just have to work at it if you aren't as good. Try some assists, and learn where the AI goes and when. Learn their weak spots and their slow spots, and take advantage of those.

I feel that GT 5 is way too hard.
Some of the challengers are that hard that you just give up.
The cars cannot be modified, and you just have no hope to advance.

I feel I am not too bad, and yes in the past I spent days and nights trying to advance.
But I think GT5 is way tooooooooooooo hard.
I am struggling on the Turisimo Grand Tour with the Alfa going down the Eiger Nordwand Track.
I have tried over 100 times, and I am just unable to get the minimum time, I am always about 1 second out.
I feel I have done the perfect time, but no hope.
The Top Gear test track challenge with the Kombie vans is another one that is way too hard.

Its frustrating.

Just keep on trying, I found that most challenges are doable at bronze or silver at least, even if you are not that experienced. Practice with the license tests, and check on YouTube for movies of challenges you can't beat to see how others are doing it.

Personally, I find the challenges in GT5 just about right with regards to difficulty, but the races in general are way too easy. I just try to enter with a car that has less hp and/or more weight than the typical opponents, otherwise I'll drive off at the start and get into a time trial until the finish line... Even with the Nascar races, where you basically have the same car as the other ones. The ovals are OK, as long as you are not bumped out by the AI, but the road courses are just way too easy to win.

It takes quite a while to become a good driver. I started with GT4, then GT5 Prologue, Need For Speed Shift, F1 2010, and now GT5, and some of the challenges are still quite...challenging! F1 2010 is actually a great game for learning to drive well, as those cars are so fast and precise that you really have to take proper lines through corners if you want to be competitive at all.

On the other hand, about 85% of GT5 is just ridiculously easy - toss a set of soft racing tires on any car and as long as it's not 200 hp less powerful than your competition, you can blast past the whole field by the second corner.

So I think a novice could do very well throughout most of the game, but expecting to beat everything, especially if you're just starting out with racing games, well...I don't think ANY racing sim's are that easy.

I have some tough times with some of the races too. But I believe this makes the game fun for me. I hate nothing more than getting a game and beating it within a few days. I feel I get my moneys worth out of GT5.

I am a very amatuer gamer. And new to the GT series. And new to steering wheels. So this has all been a big learning curve.

But notice if the challenges were easier, a lot of guys wouldn't have a challenge at all and the game would've been dumped for being too easy.
I cannot get the S Loeb Chamonix challenge @ gold atm. I'm at a 1:16.7xx But I get some sleep now, and I'll try tomorrow again. that's the challenge I like. Dreaming about how you should take a specific bend in specific conditions and try-out what you just dreamt..

A lot of people have complained about that challenge. I drove it like a regular course, kept drifting to a minimum, and golded it first try.

I'm a meh player, not a GT God, but not a novice, that 8C challengge was easy for me (1st lap 1:26.xxx, 2nd 1:22.xxx) but the Elise one isn't.

Sorry but 1:20ish isn't even gold for the Eiger/8C. How could you say that was easy? I did that in 1:15.934

...the Elise challenge, however, was easy.

A smart novice would have preordered the game so they could have an 850hp car to start them out. :dopey:

But if you dont have the luck of a preorder, or you aren't MLG Racer status, then you just gotta practice! You might finish 8th in the sunday cup 50 times, but that will truly help you in the long run. Patience is a virtue.

I thought people couldn't even bronze it? It wasn't ... easy but people said that they couldn't shave off tenths to get bronze but I shaved off 4 seconds in one lap and am sure I can gold if I do it again.

I admit I am average at best, but I have given the Camper Challenge some more attempts and this morning (nice Birthday Present I suppose) I had a few goes and finally I managed to retain more speed (crucial to this challenge) through the corners and avoid cones and the other mobile chicanes and was 2nd at the end of the first lap... only to be overtaken by the driver I just past. I was soon by him again and working my way towards the leader. With the heavy braking they do I was able to catch and was side by side as we approached the Follow Through and was past when he braked. I took it somewhat cautiously through the last two corners and finished 2.3 seconds ahead and feeling fairly shattered!! That is the hardest race I have done in a good while. I haven't felt like that after a race since NFS Shift! At last I can practice on the Tope Gear course.

So, take heart. If I can get a first on that then it is not as impossible as I thought at first. This event has a script for the other cars... watch them...
