This is what I was thinking too.

It could be like you choose to purchase insurance which is an ongoing but fairly insignificant cost, that covers you for all repairs, your fault or if you hit other people.

If you get through a race unscathed, you get a no claims bonus and the premium drops a bit each time. Maybe there can be a mode where you get to play as the Insurance broker. How cool would that be!!!!? Ive been waiting for an insurance game to come out ever since the megadrive.

I dont think i would want the hell of insurance in a game, i try to escape it... lol

I hate in FM2 when you crash and finish race, you pay right away to fix it.
I want in GT5 a REPAIR SHOP, so After a race you have to go your self and fix what you want. Lets say I fix up engine, but I will leave the bumper damaged for the next race. I want that kind of fixing freedom.

But of course option for damage will be ON and OFF for players that don't want to deal with damage.

You seem to have a bunch of holes in your theory, man.

1. Consider the community:
Whether you like it or not, there are going to be punters online. What do punters tend to do? Wreck your car. When you're driving cleanly and get blindsided by some dick because he feels like having a good time, do you really want to foot the bill?

2. There's gonna be accidents:
What if you're driving online and the person in front of you accidentally slams on his brakes because he misjudged a turn. Yeah, you're supposed to race your time, not the person in front of you, but not everyone follows those rules. In this scenario, both of you made simple mistakes, yet you're going to be in the hole however many credits because you lost track of things for a second.

3. Online can be laggy:
If GT5P is anything to go by, there are going to be moments where a car that's 4 lengths behind you is magically transported right in front of you thanks to lag. Heck, maybe he'll be transported inside you. Now, if there's a definitive damage in all online races, this race was just ended. Lag is unpredictable, and you can't just tell me that everyone is going to have a perfect connection all around the world.

So, if you just read this, and your first reaction is going to be telling me to go play Forza, then maybe you should go back up to the beginning of this post and read it again.

I understand every aspect lags and that the GT severs look for the best connection between players. Unfortunately a lot of people have the lag box which I don’t understand why. Yes there will be punters who just want to push people around and have a good time and they need to do it in arcade mode not sim mode. Hopefully there will be a stiffer penalty system GT5 to steer away the players who just look into punting as well keep others driving clean. Racing will have accidents that’s a given. I raced before and I’ve been in some mean crashes that are a part of motor racing. You as a driver must keep on your toes and if not you may be done for the race. We’ve asked for damage for so many years and now we’re getting it. I for one don’t want damage just in one aspect of GT5 I want it in every area of GT5 maybe it’s just me. I’m a racer ever since I got my first go-kart, I’ve drove Formula Ford, Rally, Sport Car and GT. I’ve build many cars to race and my last car went up in flames along with my house. GT is the closest I get back to racing until I either get a ride or raise enough money to buy another car and build it for compaction. So if I take this to heart that’s on me. I know of a few people on this form that have raced and they can agree with me. The only two things I hold dear to my heart are my family and racing. I have my family but I don’t have my racing. If I don’t get back in a car soon I will go crazy my kids and lady same the same thing. Plus I’m a much nicer person when I’m able to race every weekend. I get my anger out on the track that’s my release. So I don’t think of GT as a game, I think of it as my training tool to keep my skills sharp until the time I get a car or a ride.

That's good in theory, but there wouldn't really be a way to enforce it. The punter might have no money in the bank at the moment, so the only way I can see that working is if all the money he earned was automatically "transferred" to the repairs he needed. Of course, the affected party would just have the funds instantly in their bank, so they wouldn't have to wait on the punter, who may quit the game altogether.

That would be the idea, plus also if the punter cannot pay fully for the damage to the other persons car, the car they are driving is taken away as punishment. Or perhaps parked in a garage until they are able to pay of the damage, with there credits going into deficit.

Also, regarding insurance, if there was some kind of hidden License system like in iRacing, you could buy insurance before each race (simple yes no, with the amount of credits required for insurance). The amount would change depending on the cost of the car and modifications and the cleanliness of the drivers record.

Not only would I not mind paying for damage to my car I think I should have to. Afterall it would be a little silly if you have to pay for things such as a car wash and yet you can total your car and have it fixed magically or for free.

Gotta agree with this really...

I can't see damage being free to fix anywhere - of course - if you don't want damage then turn it off.

This is my first time on the website :D

Well I would hope you do have to pay for it - this will allow the driver to be more in touch with their car and feel more careful towards it, and allow us to drive more realistically.

I also hope that we can total or 'damage out' our cars - without an option for a restart . . . so if we write off a car, that's it.

And if we do that, maybe some kind of insurance payouts for a new car???

What does everyone else think of my idea of destroying the cars and having insurance? I think insurance should be an option. :D
