GT Sport: from utter disappointment to racing bliss

Visual customisation is still alive and well in GT Sport. It's called Livery Editor, one of the most requested features for years. Now we have it, at the expense of body kits/splitters/wings. Have you seen some of the stuff people come up with?? WOW

GT Sport is easily the best Gran Turismo ever. I'm addicted to the livery editor and Sport Mode is great fun, when the racing is good. GT Sport is what GT5 should've been. I can't stop playing it.

I like the livery editor also trying to recreate the liveries that polyphony made so I can race to cars in different colours

Yep was extremely disappointed by GTSport and its departure from the traditional game.
Played single player, completed everything, golded everything, was about to give up... Then I got into Sport Mode.
OMFGONTOAST!!!

Its digital Crack!
I go to bed thinking/dreaming of the following Daily C Race every night.

The single player update we got at the end of December just confirmed it, it needs to die and fast.

Sport Mode is the best racing and gaming i have ever done in 30 years.

Exactly this for me too. I was gutted about the lack of GT Mode... now I find any race v the AI boring, tedious and pretty predictable.

Literally the same as this

Maybe I'm missing something in your point, but what you describe there sounds exactly like the kind of online racing I used to enjoy against some regulars in GT5. What does GTS bring to the table? I haven't yet tried its online multiplayer myself.

Basically, you don't have to organise everything yourself. A series organised by the players probably still ranks higher in terms of entertainment (not least because players tend to race more fairly against players that they know), but it takes a lot of time and effort to make such a series work and it's often hard to fill all the spots.

I was nearly ready to abandon GT Sport after about a month or two, after I moved up to DR B (first time). I thought it was pointless as every race I was just "filler"... always qualifying in mid-pack and finishing mid-pack. I thought I'd never win a race and the prospect of that felt boring to me.

I had a couple of really bad races, got bumped all of the show, lost my cool and went ramming. I dropped to SR C and DR C. From then I decided to change my approach and work on getting my SR as high as possible. I did a lot of races, just going round and round at the back of the pack, gaining SR. At the point I reached SR A, I decided to start being competitive again and within 5 days rose from 5681 to 16012 DR points! Since then I have not dropped below 14000 and have been gradually climbing the past few days.

For me, as successful race is qualifying high and getting a podium finish or qualifying mid pack and climbing a few places - and, importantly always finishing higher than my door number (although this may be superstition).

I have been a Gran Turismo fan since the original, Gran Turismo is why I'm a PlayStation gamer and why I know I will always buy a PlayStation console. However going into GT Sport, I was worried by its focus on online racing. Many of those worries were confirmed on October 17, as I found the daily races repetitive and shallow, most of the tracks were locked away behind a level system, and VR functionality was limited, and so were the tracks available to race on. However, my biggest gripe was the absence of a traditional campaign. I was actually very sad, my favourite console racer had fallen from grace. I would have to contend with playing Forza 7 and PC2 to get my racing fix. Between release and Christmas Day, I played GT Sport for a total of 3 hours.

However on Christmas night I decided to give GT Sport one more chance. I was aware that a bare bones version of the campaign was added, and was eager to give it a try. So I busted out my G29, and 4 hours later I had completed most of beginner races in GT League, dabbled into scapes and was half way through the licences. Giving me the heart and soul of what a GT game is had motivated me to try and enjoy many of the modes I had previously dismissed. As a result I began to level up quite quickly, meaning that the tracks that were once locked were available, making even the VR function more compelling. During the coming weeks I would go on to give the online Sport mode a try again. Since then, I have become completely engrossed by this mode, even though I've never won a race. All in all, I'm absolutely loving GT Sport. I have stopped playing Forza (although eventually I'll get back to it), as I feel that I can once again enjoy the classic GT gameplay that I've found so compelling over the years. I'm very much looking forward to new content and the continued support of PD.

Have any of you had a similar experience?
My experience has been quite the opposite.

I gave GTS a very good go at launch (having first tried it at he Copper Box and in all beta's), while the sport mode and in particularly matchmaking is something they do desire a great deal of credit for I just get the same feeling of tired deja-vu from he rest of it. The single player feels tacked on with a grind inducing economy that I personally can do without.

In particular the physics just feel so damn dated in comparison to how the rest of the competition has moved the game on, and while it does make GTS as a title very accessible (and I'm sure that's deliberate), for me it just feels five years behind in this area.

Fair play to PD as they do keep plugging away and at the very least Rally is now not utterly broken.

For me.. Utter bliss to slight disappointment...

Now though, all my gaming time is going to be earning money in custom races to get the two 20 million cars. I won't be playing sport mode for a very long time now.
Why oh why did PD have to make these two cars so expensive???

I've got my 20 million Jag as one of the Daily gifts, I'm sure the ferrari will drop any time soon. No need for grinding.

You are lucky, I don't have any faith in my luck. It took about 50 days before I got gifted a 991, so I am glad I purchased it straight away.
It would take about 8 months of my regular sport mode/lobby racing to purchase the two cars. I have since gotten into grinding blue moon bay. I have the 330 and am about 1 million from the Jag.

You'll get both in the next week from the carousel :sly:

I should be so lucky lol
If I get gifted a 330 I will keep it to run a different chassis number, but if I get gifted a jag I would sell the one I bought - seeing as there is only one real jag in the world.
