GT Sport's Next Update Arrives This Week, Adds Mazda RX-Vision

I'd prefer more cars with no cock-pit view. Yes they are nice and good to look at for a few seconds. I personally never drive in that view, the time and resources used for creating that view could be used for more cars. .

PD have always put an interior in the recent VGT's so I would not anticipate them going back to a car without an interior view for this one.

Personally I use in car view most of the time when I am doing my racing but we will see when the update drops.

I will have the popcorn ready if the update discussions turns into bitch n'moan about the cockpit. :)

I still remember Assetto Corsa Competizione was being said not capable running on PS4.
Yes, Gran Turismo is a very important franchise for PlayStation brand but I think PS4 sales had not been influenced by Gran Turismo Sport at its early years, and PS5 also doesn't need it. Other first party games can help it. After all it's not bad if next GT will be released on both generations, good for gamers and good for company since not everyone is an early adapter.

Being a first party game, Sony will most likely want the game to be a graphical showcase for the next generation of consoles. Releasing the game on both the PS4 and PS5 would mean the PS5 version is most likely held back (feature-wise) as to achieve parity with the PS4 version.

I almost guarantee that PS4 users (and gamers all around) would complain if the PS5 version of the exact same game receives exclusive features (i.e. dynamic TOD and weather) simply for having the newer console

I mean, the SSD specs of the PS5 itself are incredibly cutting edge on its own. Having to develop with the PS4 in mind means developers won’t be able to utilise all of the hardware features of the newer console

Hopefully they'll add cockpits to the VGTs that don't have them (as well as other cars, like the S-FR Racing Concept) in the next game, if not this one. I think the VGTs that are missing them are mostly from the GT6 era, namely the VGTs from Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, Mitsubishi, and I likely am forgetting some others.

At this stage I think anyone expecting 9-car updates on a monthly basis is completely oblivious to that other thing that Sony is bringing out before the end of the year... did Rockstar still update GTA IV with new content in 2014???

Do we really have any confirmation that GT7 is coming this year?

I think that was down to Forza Horizon 4 and the Forza series myself but I keep hoping it might get added one day...

Or, it could be that PD's simply prioritizing the addition of other cars to GTS - maybe the Senna could come in the next game, for as little as we know. I can't remember if the Senna was a track-only car like the Zonda R or P1 GTR, but if so, I'd hope we get a new class in the next game reserved for those cars - as well as the Vulcan. Maybe the Vulcan wouldn't be so terrible if it wasn't in the N-Series, and instead in this hypothetical class for track-only cars.

Even if it is, what makes you think it will have "7" tacked to the end?
I suppose mostly if it's like other GT games, then it'd make sense for 7 to come next. That is, unless it somehow takes an even more radical departure from the series. Personally, I wouldn't mind a tuning mode called "Gran Turismo Omologato," where it could be a successor to the RM system, and you modify a road car for compliance in Gr.4, Gr.3, or Gr.B. I suppose I just like tinkering with terms like that, much like how GTS is a term seen on many road cars already. Maybe the daily races in the next game could be what gets called "GT Sport," with online championships being called "GT Racing," or "GTR" for short, haha.

The Senna is a roadcar, though even still, PD didn’t really add many of the more recent super/hypercars into the game (i.e. LaFerrari but no 918 or roadgoing P1, 458 Italia but no 488 GTB even though the car was 2 years old at that time) - all in all, there were about 3 or 4 ‘new’ supercar additions while most others came back from GT6

Do we really have any confirmation that GT7 is coming this year?

No, but considering the average development time PD take to make a new game, the release of a new console this year and the slowing down of GTS updates, it’s not surprising that people are beginning to speculate about a potential release

It does take a while for PD to make a car. Maybe they just wanna add them all at once, either in an update or in the next game. I don't think PD would actively neglect those cars.

But that's all it really is, isn't it? Speculation.

Will never happen, because Tag Heuer.

Ok

It's not a crime holding back a little bit. I want to see next Gran Turismo has incredible sales and with prematurely releasing it on PS5 is not possible. PS5 still has much time in the future, so do we.
Gran Turismo 6 should have arrived on PS4, because of different architecture it was hard to do for the developer, and now they are given the better situation. As a developer it is natural wanting to see their game being played by as many as gamers. But let's just see, right? I hope it will be released on both system, if not I won't be disappointed too much. Buy PS5 after one year of the release, problem solved.

4 pages and not a single soul talked about how damn pretty this car is smh

Every update thread from now on is the "oh god i hope gt7 releases this year" thread

I like how everyone is assuming that GT7 will be the classical original GT with all tournaments and licenses, just because of the "7" there. Well, this is most probably true, but can you imagine the absolute horror and salt here in the forums if PD decides to transform GT7 in GT Sport 2.0?

"So yeah, GT Sport was awesome and we gonna continue with it!"

So much for waiting GT "7" huh

Chill out my dudes. I don't like it either, but wtf can i do? Just enjoy the car, i guess. And you know what? That's fiiiineee, specially because this car is damn beautiful.

It's beauty is talked about in the original thread. ;)

I would love to know who's idea it was to have these VGT cars. No doubt it was something Kaz thought would be great so he unilaterally went ahead with it. If there was a poll asking players if they wanted VGTs or real life cars, I would be flabbergasted if the majority chose VGTs.

I guess perhaps economically it was good for PD because it would have made licensing issues easier to resolve and generally cheaper to have fantasy cars in the game than new (or old) licensed cars that people find desirable.

This isn’t even a VGT

That wouldn't work. The VGT project needs car manufacturers to have their design teams provide the cars. That partly answers your question too.

GT has always had the odd concept car here and there (and an entire game full of them once), and this developed into a concept car or two developed specifically for GT - the obvious one being the GT5P cover car Citroen GT by Citroen. That proved there was an appetite from manufacturers for show-level concept cars being in games, and the GT team (probably the GT Explore folks) got enough interest from car manufacturers to develop the idea into a longer-term collaboration.

Several of the cars have come from famous designers too.

That's not the choice though: the VGTs aren't replacing anything. It's VGTs or empty space.

Though I'm not sure why it's relevant to the thread. The Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept isn't a Vision GT car. It's a Mazda concept car from the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, developed into a race car.

I'm glad PD is putting all efforts into PS5 Gran Turismo and not wasting any more time making PS4 assets.

GTSport has gotten stale and some new tracks or cars isn't going to change the lack of features missing from weaker hardware for the visuals they wanted to achieve at a stable framerate. No dynamic time of day or weather, people still complaining about penalty system which depends on the AI system, poor car AI, rain physics are still really basic with no wet or dry lines or puddle aquaplaning, bare bones VR mode. The way they have to bake the lighting and effects for rain means it's taking them considerably longer to even add rain to tracks.

The massive jump in the PS5's CPU, GPU, and SSD will allow much more notable improvements and possibilities in all of these areas that's lacking in GTSport.

Time to move on to next-gen, GTSport already has a hefty amount of content now for anyone new coming into the game.

Elaborate, please.

Omologato is a watch maker which specialises in motorsports based watches, TAG Heuer is a watch maker who is Gran Turismo's timing partner. Even if it's just the word 'omologato', you can't use that term as title in the game, because it implies publicity for a conflicting brand to an existing partner, especially in the case of a game mode. This is something you can pretty much get fired for if you work in commercial/sponsorship.

That's what I found really annoying about these monthly updates: there's a tonne of things outside cars and tracks that could be improved, but they haven't bothered. The car is nice, but I'm really only interested in what else comes with this update (if anything).

I doubt that. That'd be like saying you can't say the term "Gran Turismo" in another racing game - like to describe what the "GT" in a car's name stands for - because the Gran Turismo videogame series exists.

No, it's not even slightly like that. It's more like TAG Heuer coming up with a watch it calls Forza while it's partnered with Gran Turismo. Or a Michelin Assetto Corsa tyre. These are words which have relevant meanings (power, and race trim) in Italian, but are competitor brands to Gran Turismo and not desirable on its partners' products.

TAG Heuer is GT's official timing partner. The likelihood of it being pleased that a Gran Turismo game has the name of a competitor timing brand in the title is pretty much zero - even if the word itself has relevant meanings not connected to the fact it's also a rival brand.
