This is not really my idea. Someone on GTF came up with this idea 5 years ago, but I thought it was kinda funny. Does anyone else have injuries related to GT2? I'm not talking about bashed-up cars, I'm talking about real-life injuries! For instance, I frequently have to make myself sit in a position in which my legs are straightened out. Sitting Indian-style is so tempting, but after a few minutes I get cramps in my legs. Also, my eyes get dry during an enduro and sometimes my right thumb gets tense after hours of holding the analog accelerator. I have to make myself get up and get snacks or a drink whenever I pit stop, but it's SOOO tempting to keep racing!

Huh... My right thumb occasionally locks and I have to take it off the controller to straiten, usually smacking into a wall in the process. That only happens, like Parnelli said, after playing a while. Does anyone else find the analog stick very uncomfortable?? I use the D-pad

It's wierd. I NEVER use the sticks for GT, but I hardly ever use the d-pad for other games :odd: Back on subject, while running an endurance race, I usually take a break about every 30 minutes. I don't want the fingers to start locking up and the legs to get numb. That and I just bought a wireless controller so I can sit on the couch and walk around. :)👍

I don't think it is just GT2 that cause's injuries. I have problems with my knee's locking up after a cople of hours of sitting on the sofa racing at GVS 300 in GT. Also with the slower cars I end up with a nice circular dint in my thumb from pressing on the buttons too hard.

i dont know why but i press really hard when i want the car to accelrate faster or to push for just 1 more mph even though i know it doesnt help. also when i turn and im sitting up i tend to lean whatever way im turning like it somehow helps.. but after 3 hours of intense racing my fingers hurt and my back is killing me...

I used the D pad when I got Ford Racing last year and kept using it when I got GT1. The whole time I was thinking "man, wouldn't it be great if they made this game compatible with analog? it makes so much sense". Meanwhile, the game had analog the whole time...all I had to do is look in the options!

Actually flamemonkey, I find the D pad is great for some games, but I used to get a SERIOUS cramp from pressing the X button for hours in Gran Turismo! I never use the D pad anymore with one exception, which I'll write about in a new thread...

Back on topic.

I usually get so involved in my enduros that the room gets dark around with without me noticing, my eyes are superglued to their lids and my hand feels like a wet tissue.

i can play the game for hours in a row but not endurance. i get tired of doing the same lap over and over. the longest i ever played one track is for 48 laps at red rock valley to earn 2000000 dollars to get my escudo....

Sorta Edit: I tried the analog and it ain't half bad. I guess I'll use it from now on
I also tend to lean in the direction I'm turning, especially on banked curves like in Red Rock Valley.
Endurance is ok, I only injure myself mentally. Think of it, 300 km of Grand Valley for an Impreza Rally Car :banghead:, instead of the R390 LM!! Sorta like the time I got the Escort instead of the GT90... :banghead: What luck I have.

By the way, what does the X-button have to do with the D-pad? :dunce:

I lean too. Sometimes if I'm really fired up I'll move my arms as though I've got a real steering wheel. Yeah, when I was talking about the D-pad I was talking about no analog stix. I didn't know the buttons weren't considered part of the D-pad.

D-Pad = Directional Pad... Like, the directional buttons... left, right, up, down...get it?
Even if I'm not receiving any injury my poor venerable PSOne is... The laser being moved back and forth in the menu screens is starting to sound pretty hoarse. Why can't the menus be on one ring of the disc, dang it??? :grumpy: 👎

I think if PS machines had counters on for the amount of hours used, mine would be in the all-time top ten. And still it refuses to die
Occasionally it will pause to say I have no controller in port 1, but only occasionally

I love enduros. There's nothing awesomer than trying to better your last lap, and all the time you're on bad settings so the AI can keep up and you don't get bored. :dopey:

Yes. There's also nothing less awesomer screwing up on one of the first bends, and then giving up on the whole lap. :guilty: I dunno about you guys, but the AI cars really suck when I race against them. They'll actually spin out at times  Hence I lap most by 5,6,7(out of 60).

yeah, I usually end up slowing to wait or stopping altogether, just to make it more interesting. I do that on 2-player games too, I just have to make it look convincing

"Damn, I clipped that wall, look how it slowed me down and you got past"

or

"oh, look - I spun out on that rumble strip. Again. Tsk...."

lmao

There's a better way: I've been figuring out the pound 2 power ratios of all the events in GT2. Yup, that's right, I actually use a calculator. If you figure out which is the best car in the enduro, and then figure out its weight and power, you can divide power and weight and get a ratio. At Apricot Hill, for instance, the GT40 is the best car. It weighs 2,200 lbs. and produces 310 hp so 2,200 divided by 310=7.22 (2,200÷310=7.22). If you slap the right parts on your car without having a lower ratio than 7.22, you'll have a fair fight; you can even use sports or normal tires instead of slicks on some of the races. There's nothing more fun than lap after lap of trying to beat the AI with your wits instead of your horsepower! Makes a world of difference.

That sounds like fun. I'm just too damn lazy so I take the path of least resistance. I get a spunky FR like RE RX-7 or Viper and beat the thing as quickly as I can to get the damn prize already. :D Well I have one more endurance to do (200 mi at Laguna Seca) so I'll try stopping to heat thing up....just not in the last 5 laps

im gonna beat most of the game first then im gonna try to make it hard for me. my worst track is laguna seca(weird huh) i actually lost that race with my escudo(even weirder). it was the last lap and on that carkscrew thing that goes down i went to fast an hit the wall i gained it all back except for the gt1 road car infront of me and lost by 1 tenth of a second. i havent even got around to play the gran turismo foundation races yet...

The trick to doing the 'carkscrew' is braking distance. if you've got a high-powered car like the Escudo, you're gonna need to start braking way before you even get to the top of the hill, and then you turn carefully left & then right, and you don't hit throttle till you've got your car straightened out.

returning to original subject, I think that D-pad is way better to sticks, but I use sticks for save my thumbs. They hurt badly in a few time of play with D-pad :grumpy:

I agree apart from the bad settings. If the AI are not up to racing with me then I don't see that I have to set my car up badly to allow them a chance. Choose an inferior car yes, but set it up badly no.

there's always the option of taking a fairly stock car out.... put on sports tyres and suspension, maybe a chip and exhaust, but leave it as that. Makes it far more 'interesting'
