Hey guys,

This is a quick review of the game I decided to write up cuz well I got board and I'm watching SpeedVision :P

The Hype

GT3 has been one of the most anticipated games for PS2 and I must say a LOT of people are quite impressed, but there are those who seem to be very disappointed. With the release of the original GT and the amazing follow up of GT2 most people believe Polyphony could do no wrong. With good reason, GT1 and 2 were ground breaking games in their category.

Background

GT1 was the first of the series and was the most in depth racing simulator released on any platform. It featured a TON of cars from real world manufacturers like Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda and many more. The driving physics were right on and the whole feel of the game was very amazing. GT2 brought this feeling to an even higher level. The game featured somewhere around 600 cars, even more polished physics, customizable rims, racing modifications and plenty more. These were by far 2 of the most fun games available for the Playstation. With a background like that, How could GT3 be anything less than beautiful?

The Gameplay

GT3 plays amazingly fast, 60 fps, and once again the physics are right on. The feel of this game is quite addictive! Once you get a decently powered car and start to rip on it, you'll loose yourself in the realism. Like I said before its FAST and it looks amazing!

The Graphics

The graphics have to been seen and experienced to truly be enjoyed. Pictures do them NO justice. At the time, this is the closest thing a lot of us will ever get to a Viper GTS. Graphical detail is so good it’s hard to tell at times if the cars are fake or not. The replays, if used with the right replay options, can look so close to an actual race it'll scare you. You honestly must PLAY THE GAME to see what I'm talking about.

The Controls

Controlling in this game is even better than that seen in GT2. The analog works beautifully at simulating a steering wheel. As for the rest, the controls are so tight that if you press X half was down the car will begin to rev slowly. Press it all the way and it'll floor the car. Very well done.

Replay Value

Replay value you say? How over 180 cars and an endless amount of races and don't forget about the nearly impossible at times license tests? This is by far one of the longest games if not THE longest game you can buy for PS2 at this point.

The Good

Beautiful graphics, great physics, tight controls, and tons of cars and races. This is by far the most beautiful looking racing simulator I have ever seen and also one of the best!

The Bad

Like everything this game is not perfect... 180 cars might sound like a lot but for the die hard car fans like myself this just wont last us all that long. I’m sure Polyphony could’ve stuffed at least 200 into the DVD. The absence of the much beloved Racing Modifications is quite a disappointment. Also no more used cars which is fine, but the absence of the old muscle cars, minus the GT40 and Cobra, is also annoying. The game is more geared towards import power this time around with not even a 1/4 the American cars, as there are foreign. There is however still plenty of American steel to choose from. Annoying little things like not being able to buy the same rims for more then one car are frustraiting as well. All and all these are not that major and I pretty much had to skim the top of my head to find things to complain about.

The End Result

If you’re a racing fan of any kind I HIGHLY suggest you go and pick yourself up a copy of GT3. This is THE best racing game available on any platform and can only be shown up by GT4.

This review was meant to help those unsure whether or not GT3 was for them. Most of the major weaknesses of the game were pointed out in this review as well as the number of strong points. I hope this helps everyone.

In response to your problems with the rims, once you buy a set, you can put them on all your cars if you want. They become unlimited after you purchase them. I have the same set of Enkei on 3 cars. Otherwise I agree with you on the other stuff.
