GT4 Capri trackmap

After watching the ending movie in GT4P i made this trackmap of the most realistic track for Capri. Some of the scenes from the movie doesn't quite match up exactly to the map of Capri, but then again PD has used som artistic freedom when creating the Citta di Aria (Asissi) track in GT4P, so they might have made changes to certain place to make the track more interesting and drivable.

The could make a nice track, unfortunately I don't think theres been enough footage of Capri to make a 100% accurate track map but that sea front road is definitely there.
 
The course looks huge. How many miles is it? Or you can't figure that out, yet?

I think PD is moving twords longer tracks. GT3 courses were on the small side, if you ask me. I'm OK with that, but I think it's starting to get a little tiresome. I would also like to so a few shorter courses and tracks, just to make the game more different.
 
I'm not much of a fan of longer tracks because in championships they take too long for my liking but thats just me, and for licenses it can be quite tedious having to repeat an S License when you fail by the smallest margin just before the laps complete.

Thats just me, although I do believe Capri is going to be an amazing track! It looks amazing :eek:
 
Based on that trackmap, although it may not be 100% correct, I cannot wait to drive this track. Gentle curves and sweeping corners... as well as hairpins and a great view of the coast... definitely gonna be a special track.
 
Have we got any shots from the GT4P movie to match up with sections of the map (nice job on that, by the way)? I'd be interested to see what the elevation changes are like.
 
I'll admit. I don't know CRAP about Capri. However, I think it will continue the tropical nature of what Tahiti brought. Capri looks pretty cool. I'd love to give it a 206 WRC jam session. However, it will be more narrow. So a new challenge for me and the world. Had I an Escudo, I'd enjoy nearly jumping over the guardrail and land on the beach somewhere interrupting a volleyball game where cute girls are playing (and then ask them out on a date... in GT4, of course, because you can't date polygons and pixels).

While the possibility of a GT4 Dating sim Mini-game is VERY unlikely :), I think Capri would offer a sweet challenge for rally and road racers alike.

Citta di Aria is an TRUE represenatation of Assisi streets layout, no "artistic freedom" there.

Well since its my "artistic freedom" claim its probably up to me to prove that what you might think is a TRUE representation really is not. If you look at a map with the track overlaid on it you will notice a couple of divergencies. This is the map overlaid with the course the track have to take for it to make up the lap in real life.

Firstly, when you turn back from the eastern corner of the track your going thru the sweeping righthander of Via Umberto I leading onto the straight of Via Borgo Aretino going under the first of the two arches. If you look at the map this part of track seems to have been altered to make the turn and the straight flow into one another so taht you can go full throttle all the way.

Secondly, when you go down Via Sant' Apollinare towards the second of the arches, just passing under the arch you turn sharp right onto the Viale Guglielmo Marconi, then continue left up to the western turn going back towards start/finish. But according to the map when you come down Via Sant' Apollinare you first have to turn left down Via G.P. Nicolini before you can turn right onto Viale Guglielmo Marconi.

Still not convinced that PD is not faithfully true to reality. I also found that a house is missing from the seafront of the Capri track in the ending video from GT4P where the Subaru Impreza speeds past. The missing house is the one in this photo :

Also most of the piers and breakwaters of the harbour is missing.

So everything is a TRUE representation then is it?


(I have updated the trackmap of Capri in the first post with a scale so you can get an idea of how long the track is.)
 
Sorry if I'm missing something and this sounds dumb, but the track layout on that map fits the roads perfectly. Also when you see things like some building missing and piers ect it's more to do with PD keeping a decent frame rate, not putting too much on screen at once.

Sorry, my fault. I put up the wrong map at first, the one showing the course the track has to run to make up the lap. Sorry. :embarrassed:
 
Can't wait looks like a lot of fun! Where's Capri again? It's some little island off of Italy isn't it? Would make a nice place to retire hehe..
 
Hyperglide, if you were richer than Donald Trump or Ted Turner, you could retire in Monte Carlo for all we know!

(but then you'd have to buy me plane tickets, hotel tickets, and tickets to the next Monaco F1 Grand Prix)
 
Excellent job, no doubt, but I still think that there is NO artistic freedom there.

OK, there are some changes but they are so minor that they just do not compare.

Although, we are talking about the same thing with different words: you want to crtisise and I want to congratulate.

Still - great job there!
 
To reiterate, Capri should make for a wonderful racing experience. You want to fantacise racing Capri, here are two visions...

(1) imagine racing Monte Carlo, but in a rally car. You're flying around seeing all the buildings and stuff and enjoying the beautiful, sunny day.

(2) imagine playing Tahiti Road from Gran Turismo 2. But imagine this as a more challenging version of it.

Dream on until GT4 comes out.

It was not my intention to critisise anyone or anything, i was just stating a fact. But the way you put TRUE in capital letters, to me that gave it the meaning that i was tottaly utterly wrong, that there was no alterations to it what so ever. I did put "some" (even though the "e" was missing) in front of "artistic freedom", meaning that they had made some small changes to the track. How significant they are wasn't actually my point, just that they where there.

No hard feelings?
 
I found a better map of Capri that also included buildings, making the Capri scenes from the GT4P ending movie much easier to recognice. The track is now much longer then before. The scenes with the Lancer starts just after the

at the bottom of the map. Then its the Impreza going down the short straight and around the 180° turn. It's then both the Impreza and the Integrale, but from different angles, ending up with the Integrale going true the 180°. I think this is correct, but i'm not 100% certain. I'm only certain about the part of the track containing the Impreza by the sea front.

Like I said, it should be very entertaining. It looks more like a rally course, because I can't imagine putting a road racer on those streets. A "rule" I might have is:

For winding streets too challenging for road racers, make it a rally course. For streets that offer exceptional challenge and have high speeds, make it a road race.

Now the difference in context, I say "rally course" to denote tracks with layouts that are wholly unrealistic for a car to road racinig car on. I think courses like Tahiti Road (GT2) was a road course, but it would be more interesting to rally on. I think country roads or dirt roads should be rallied. And Capri looks more like a rally course.

But if it will compliment the bigtime racers, you bet your @$$ I'll be out there ready to compete like a 2nd string Wide Receiver playing on Saturdays or Sundays (college or pro).

I'd like to see some really twisty courses, Citta Di Aria was a lot faster track than I imagined. Still an ace track though & Capri looks fun too :)

Finally a coastal track hehe :D something I've missed ever since TNFS.
 
It's worth waiting for if everything that we could have asked for is in this game. So far, it's lookin like everything that i would want in a game, and barely any new info has been given out.....can't wait to get a list of cars and features
 
I wonder if we'll get any stretch convertible Fiat Mareas or Nissan Serenas to drive there...
 
Looking at the name of the new videos sheds some new light on this, i.e. that the track is Amalfi, on the coast of Italy, and not on the island Capri, which is just a little bit further west. Adding to the confusion was that a picture was posted above of the coastline buildings of Amalfi, not Capri. Let's look into this further soon, now it's sleepy time.
