A lot of the music gets on my nerves but there are some ok tracks.

I think a lot of the non standard tracks are some of the best ones energy wise and in not being obnoxious (the un activated tracks by daisuke... w/e).

yeah they need more energetic music.. maybe they need a radio station type thing where you can pick the genre from eurobeat, techno, rock, oldies etc we should be able to pick just like in project gotham

DAIKI KASHO ROXORZ!!!
I voted very good because of that guy and the band that did the vocals, Dakota Star.

And I advise that you sift through the entire playlist and choose the songs that you want to hear. The default soundtrack selection sucks very badly.

yes it does but if u say that song is good i may turn it on and check it out since ive had all music off for like ...cant remember lol

I know a lot of people want to quickly take shots at GT4. But on a majority, I think this has been some of the best music since GT1. GT2's was okay, until most of it got old. I still liked "Cold Rock the Mic" and "Super Bon Bon." GT3's was a step in the right direction giving you a playlist. Even with the playlist, most of the music got old in GT3 as well. I'm expecting negative comments on this one- but I thought Snoop Doog's music track was pretty cool, speaking as a fan of hip-hop. GT4's had some of the best music I've heard since GT1. I thought it was rather foolish to have classical music in a race, but after trying it out on a few courses, what's really WRONG with classical music to be used in races? I actually enjoyed having classical music in races. I think it is a nice touch for the vintage cars. Think about it- you have a beautiful Jaguar XKE or Toyota 2000GT racing in a classic car race. While electronica and stuff are perfectly fine, there just seems to be that extra touch with classical music and vintage cars. Speaking of electronica, there was a nice collection of different songs. Mr. Natural's "Gameplan" had sort of a Ridge Racer feel to it, whereas there are pulsating beats much like I was playing Ridge Racer V or something. It was good, but could be better. A. Skills has mad skills with "Till the Break" and "Slip and Slide." Maybe it's just me, but "Slip and Slide" sounds like completely legit rally music because that's what you do in an off-road race most of the time, right? I am not a real big rock music guy, as many of you may know. If I had to choose some which were exceptions to the rule, make it the "Getting Away" remix, the "Moon Over the Castle" Orchestra Mix, and even Van Halen's Panama. Oh yeah, and I'd also include the tracks by Daiki Kasho.

And by the way, I thought James Brown's remix isn't all that bad. May sound corny at first, but I liked it. Other funky tracks included the remixes to "Machine Gun" and "Getaway." In reverse, the songs I've most hated was that country song, that "Oh Yeah" song by Yello, or whomever. A song I liked at first but didn't really like later were Papa Roach's "Not Listening." Other than that, there were plenty of songs to choose from, so there's almost no excuse not to find at least one you like. Just saying "I don't listen to the music" isn't an excuse for this thread because the assumption is that you've heard the music and are able to judge the music for yourself. I marked down "Very Good" with many of the different songs I've listened to and enjoyed.

Overall it's a bit of an adreneline factor, for some it's going to be rock music that gets them into the feel of hard fast racing, others will prefer a bit of classical (especially if you're The Stig)

Being a fan of Happy Hardcore and Drum & Bass I find I enjoy listening to a different selection of music on the GT4 replays (never whilst driving). I think the music suits the game but if I am in the mood for some sounds, I go downstairs and put the stereo on.

I usually just have the BGM off when I'm racing & listen to the local radio :indiff: the songs I kept in my list are ok, but even after just keeping the few 'good' ones, they get boring & repetitious when listened to over & over again. I have to admit I do find it amusing to just put in classical tracks while cruising the 'burg in my Mazda Carol :D

But definitely need more 'road rage' music! German Industrial would be good :) Einsturzendte, Laibach, Rammstein... just to name a few off the top of my head. Or even some plain ol' Godsmack & Korn would be preferable to that stuff they got in there now.

Ouch. Misguided assumption, there. Eurobeat isn't a European thing. It's Japanese. It just happens to be produced by Italians, hence the name.

Though Europeans tend to be partial to pop-trance/techno and other electronic music, it seems.

You know? I think Europe cant be seen as an area where they listen one kind of music. I think that there's no real direction of music thats popular here.

I think, here in Holland, only pop music is shown, and since that is pretty limiting, people I know just browse the internet and find their own taste that way.

There are more rock fans here in Holland than Techno I think.
I love metallica, chevelle, tool and green day:tup::) Metallica and the orchestra is very very nice IMO:)

Actually i had the music on for a long time but everything just got pretty old.. a few tracks are okay just got my style

The menu music is quite debatable, but I like the menu music. A number of them may be rehashings of past GT menu songs, but they sound pretty nice to me. Only menu song I know the title to is "Be At Home," the theme when you go to your Home Garage in GT4. I like the cool jazz music. I think if they want to get in some jazz that's cool enough to make make an appearance in GT5, they can go to two nice Japanese jazz pianists. I am a fan of Keiko Matsui, a jazz pianist who's been in the game for more than a decade. Her music is more of new age, but has that distinctive Asian feel to each song. The other one is one I heard more recently on the Internet. Her name is Chihiro Yamanaka. Chihiro-san is different in that her style is more contemporary compared to Keiko. But, they are two good Japanese jazz pianists.

I will say that if GT5 room for custom song lists, then the issue of music would be completely eliminated. It doesn't mean that GT5 has to ugly up their soundtrack much like Forza's soundtrack. There's a lot of songs to choose from, and many of them will work pretty well. My playlist is diverse from hip-hop, rock, classical, electronica, and all that. People say rock music is the racing music of GT gamers. My get-up-and-go is electronica. Electronica exudes youth and energy as each race is a party with the music playing. I think PD should enhance the electronica... but just a little bit. More "bangers" would be nice, because I don't have a good number of songs that could take the place of GT4's tracks even if I tried.

I liked most of the music, the classical does its job at making racing look like an art form, and the rock was awesome. But i need some eurobeat an Rammstien for me to be completely happy.

yea woot i want some eurobeat also! 👍 not sure what rammstein is what is it? 💡

They're a band...from Holland...if I remember correctly...could be wrong

As for me...give me some Meatloaf, Queen, AC/DC, Evanescence, Nightwish and maybe some decent movie soundtrack themes

Yeah, AC/DC, GNR and a bunch of other bands should make an appearence. I mean, 'Welcome to the Jungle' is a racing anthem!

Du... Du Hast... De Hast M... I forget the rest of the spelling. It was the only Rammstein track I can recall.

I am an electronica fan, so I believe you European types have some kicking music to be nice for a GT game. I'm not really a rock guy even though I thought "Panama" by Van Halen was pretty cool. I often wonder what hip-hop would be interesting to be in a GT game. Say what you want about the music, but this is the kind of stuff I grew up listening and still like to this day. I sometimes think uptempo old school hip-hop seems pretty cool for racing. Maybe instead of looking for world-class or popular song makers, maybe look to more independent music types. I usually go to the Houston Auto Show and get Scion music CDs. Many of the songs are hip-hop or even breakbeat. Many of the artists aren't big label stars. In fact, one of my Scion Sampler CDs had some tracks mixed or produced by DJ Jazzy Jeff. So, they can mix up licensed artists and independents.

The only really good song is Freewheel Burning with Judas Priest, then there are some half decent stuff, but most of the music is crap in my ears. That is probably due to the fact that I prefer metal... And seeing that most people don´t like metal, the stuff in GT4 is far better for me than the music from the NFSU games.

I guess it's safe to say that a specific preference to a certain genre of music can make all the difference for any gamer. Remember that I've grown up with hip-hop music. There are some exceptions to rock-type music I will admit liking. In some cases, mixes of hip-hop and rock can make a nice combination if done right. For example, Linkin Park did a song called "It's Going Down." The only way I heard of it is by watching the Formula SAE video for Massachusetts Tech (better known as MIT) at { http://web.mit.edu/fsae/gallery/movies/fsae_promo04.wmv }. The music in this promotional video for their FSAE program is what I'm talking about in terms of this hip-hop/rock faction. And yes, the background music is Linkin Park's "It's Going Down" song.

In my racing game experience, I have played Need for Speed: Underground 1. The music consisted of stuff like Lil' Jon and the Eastside Boys song "Get Low." I personally like that song. I've liked these songs because I'm used to the music and like it. But introduce me to a game with a boatload of rock and heavy metal, and I likely won't be interested in the music too much because I don't really prefer this genre over another. That's just me. If you love music, you likely have a favorite genre. I try to be diverse with the music I like. Many styles of music are good because everyone has their favorite kind of music. Granted that the music isn't ska, zydeco, or anything like that, there's something for everyone. So, music will come down to preference more than anything. If you prefer rock over anything in the NFS:U series, then that's on you. If you like hip-hop and breakbeat over country or classic rock, then that's your preference. The moral of this story is most likely "help GT help yourself." I'm sure you can dig my flow, right?

Well, I knew I wasn't alone in wanting to defend GT4's music selection to an extent, but I have to say Bravo to John for what he's said so far.

I feel some similar things, I also feel that one's music tastes are forever subjective and nothing is ever set in stone unless someone decides to set his/her music tastes to stone, plus what someone wants out of a song.

I just try to enjoy the music for what it is, and the options GT4 have given us is good to say the least. I think one very good step was what GT3 did do with the playlist even though as had been pointed out, some songs did get old. Unless you count Daiki Kasho, for me anyway as it took a while before I ever got tired of those songs...for a while anyway, infact as I wrote this I was listening to Strike Breaker from GT3, which I think is one of the best songs in GT besides a lot of the stuff by Cubanate and Ash from GT1.

Being able to put in your own songs (in GT5) would be very cool to say the least, similar to what other games have been doing of course and one could argue then, with that in mind, they could even God forbid take out any pre-programmed songs that would have been selected, however I say no to that idea because it's what the music in any kind of game that what makes it, regardless if a person in question likes or hates it. To take it out would be to take out a layer that makes the game as a whole. The idea to put in custom tracks alongside what ones come standard with the game though I go with all the way (I was hoping it would be in GT4 but oh well, life goes on).

As with what music makes anything, it's like how Eurobeat makes for the most if not the entire part Initial D's soundtrack, as does the song arrangements from the different Ridge Racer games and same for Need for Speed and Sega Rally and nearly every other racing game. In short on that front, like the music for what it is, easier said than done for some.

What I like though about GT4 in particular is that they at the least tried to appeal to a lot of people. I mean yes in some attempts that could end up appealing to no one but hell, music tastes can be established at given ages for what people want out of songs. Factors also including what has already been stated, what you've for example listened to while growing up.
The selection for GT4 is okay, Daiki Kasho is still good although the songs this time around aren't as intense as those from GT3, that isn't to say they are no good because they are and plus it's probably for the better because it's good to have a change in something.

I think it would have been something if say he tried a 2nd remix with Lenny Kraviz (where are we runnin which was actually featured in a GT4 prologue drift video if memory serves correct) but something tells me not everyone felt the same way about the song in GT3 (infact I'm sure a lot felt like some people were dropped on their heads when they considered having Lenny Kraviz's 'are you going my way?' song to be remixed by Daiki Kasho), would have been something though. Good or bad is forever subjective.

I like the menu songs, since GT1 they always did sound good to me, the ones I remember best are GT1 and GT3's menu music, although I think what takes the cake was GT1''s Arcade screen music when you selected your car and track for the American and European releases. That in my opinion was THE best of music for GT PERIOD. I never (again) got to connect with GT2 as much, that isn't to say the music in that is bad, it's actually very good. I liked how they offered a bit more diversity and how some songs I did like such as 'Cold Rock the mic' and 'Super bon bon'.

GT3, again, the playlist was, still is a good idea. It's even better in GT4 because you have a lot more songs, thus you can select what you want on there. I guess the music is just what you make of it, you can either like it or not, plus it's up to what you want even though not every song (or any song can please everybody.

My two cents anyway. Till later.

Agreed and what about the definitive...if you're going to have F1 cars in there...you simply need Pink Floyds (i think) - The Chain, it's practically a legend in racing themes/tunes

Fleetwood Mac did "The Chain", for the record.
Dig the Satriani (was kinda surprised that they put any of his stuff in there, t'be honest) but what blew me away was the track by the Donnas. Tho, at the same time, I have to admit to being slightly confused by its inclusion. I mean, what's a song about stalking someone who doesn't love you doing in a racing game?

I really liked alot of the songs, but the soundtrack has nothing on the sound track on the Tony Hawk's Series!
