Hmm...I wonder how many people (like GuileVsGuile) have been waiting for the price to drop. They're going to run out and buy this, probably fall in love with the game, find out that a $50 online version will/might be coming out later this year, and wish they had waited longer...

Ha....Online Version? Please...I could care less about online. The only person I really care about racing is myself.

This is great! There's a friend of mine who has been wanting to play (but probably won't be as rabid as I am), and now I can spring the $20 to get him a copy for his birthday.

Then, after a month, we can get into some nice battles. I'll give him a 50-hp handicap to start with ;)

This is good news... if they release a GT4-PS2 package, I might just replace the old one... (don't really care if the PS3 is coming soon... I'll get it either way).

Do they package them together often? And by them, I mean Greatest Hits games and the system.

Yes, they do..Funnily though, Gamestop is still selling the GT4+PS2 bundle for $200 and PS2 core system for $150 even though on the website, the picture they put up for the bundle shows the Greatest Hits version of GT4. They need to get with it...People arent that dumb.

Edit: Or maybe they are...

Not one of my friends in RL has GT4....

Only 1 of my friends has GT4, and he never plays it. Actually, i'm not sure why he bought it in the first place, since he never played any of the other GT series either. The only time the game is in his PS2 is when i'm over and showing him my drifting skills. Yet for some reason, he keeps telling me to bring over my save card to update his car list. :odd:

probably just want to cheat and take a shorcut by copying your profile :sly:

I just saw GT4 in a new Sony commercial on TV. It was on during the Conan O'Brian show. GT4 was shown with another PS2 "Greatest Hit" game. I hope someone else caught it. Very cool!

Is a big wide world outside your living room, jump over to the WRS section and see how fast some guys are in this game ;)

Racing online against real people real time. Bring it on!!

Has anyone got the Greatest Hits version yet and found any improvements or other changes in that version?

it'd be ok if they just made it a greatest hits series...
then we could get our filthy hands on gt5 for $20... that'd be sweet!

Greatest Hits is just a different cover, the game is no different.
I wish that were the case. Every version of GT has been different.
GT2 even had three versions, all slightly different.

I expect no less from GT4 GH.

2 Words-
No.
Profit.

Nah, more like less profit. Gran Turismo is so earth-shatteringly popular that they'd easily profit at $20 a pop, but $50 means Sony gets even more money.

I don't know what the wholesale price of a normal PS2 game is nor what the typical retail markup rate for PS games is, but based on my retail experience, let's just say that the retail markup is 50%. (In my field of retail, mark-ups were typically a minimum of 30%, to 60% or even keystone (100%), or whatever the market would bear, so 50% is at least a reasonable rate to use for this discussion, until someone reveals the real life rates.)

That means the retailer gets half of the retail price and the wholesaler gets 50%, but the wholesaler/distributor also has to make a profit, so when they buy it from SONY (the publisher), they will be buying if for less, too. The SONY regional offices may mess this theory up a bit, too. SONY has their production costs (including paying Kaz and his crew for all of those years while we were sitting and waiting - OK playing GT3 and waiting), so let's say SONY also gets 50% of the wholesale price.

Just to figure out the possible range of what SONY got from that $50US (or equivalent) price tag most of us paid:

50 / 2 / 2 = $12.50 X 7 to 8 million copies (rough past sales)

At the GH price:

20 / 2 / 2 = $5 X future sales

Now, the real rates of mark-up and just who gets what will obviously affect the totals, but the math should be roughly the same.

Well, if many GT versions have been different, is anyone willing to find out what's different about this title?

When I bought the game in February (Februar in German) it was on special offer and it still cost 45 euros.

SONY just announced the world-wide sales number for GT4: over 7.6 million.
There was no mention as to whether this included Prologue totals.

They have to be greatly disappointed.

But I can't see a signficantly increased number of ppl joining GTP because, mostly likely those who would actively participate and be as geeky as us, they would have bought it on the first day, like many of us, including me.

That would be me, actually. My son has owned a Gamecube since it came out and I only bought a PS2 two weeks ago. My first purchase was the Greatest Hit, GT4.

I guess I'm not very good to this point, I think most of the gold medal times are unrealistic (and will, until I finally hit a few of them :). But I'm having a blast, and joined this forum the moment I found it on a Google search for GT4 dirt racing tips (for the life of me I can't figure out how to set up a car that will race well on dirt).

However, when GT5 comes out, I am SO there ... :)

**Warning!** Reading this post may cause a headache, therefore: Read @ your own risk!"

Greatest hits?
One of the reasons GT4 is so full of glitches and errors it's because, the people @ Sony know that no matter what, there are 9,999.000+ people out there, that will buy any crap for themselves or for their kids, as soon as it comes out :dopey:
I'm not one of them. I wait at least 6+ months, till the price drops and or till i hear good praise about it. I bought GT4 because it was on half price sale and so far, i still thing...... Sony should be paying us for playing this now called: Greatest *hit".(they forgot to type the S in front of "hits"
But of course, we all have "Our Standards" so, to those who like this game  to you. I give GT3 a 👍👍👍👍👍, but i give GT4 a:tdown:👎👎👎
Take my advice, if you want games to get better with less glitches and useless crap, DO NOT buy it as soon as it comes out!! (just pretend it's not out yet) :dopey: Then you will see game improvements!! I'm sure you have many other games you can play! 👍

I'm sure other publishers and developers of crappy games, such as EA, are shaking in their boots now. They've really improved their games with them knowing I've never bought any of theirs.

We've got to vote with our wallets and brains when it comes to GT:HD content, though.

Phonypoly -- I agree with and can appreciate your opinions on GT3/GT4 and Polyphony/Sony, but you're coming off a bit strong. ;) Tone down the smilies and exclamation points a bit and I think people may be more likely to take you seriously. :)

somwhere in another thread it was mentioned that you can race the autounion v16 anywhere in the greatest hits version... but unfortunately i couldnt find that post :nervous:

EDIT: i found the thread and its actually labeled auto union v16 and its right above this one in the forum, kinda makes you wonder if there are any other small differences
