I have been thinking about putting a 40 gig hard drive on my PS2, but what I want to know is, can you save GT4 to the hard drive, or is that a no-no?

I searched and only found information about saving photos to a USB hard drive, which is totally use less to me.

If you can answer my question, or send me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks.

Also, off this subject, how big is GT4 size wise, a few gigs right?

No its a dual layer disc so its closer to 8-9 GB. Ya if you can get the PS2 to read the HD, you can prob save GT4 game files to it. Theres no way to transfer the entire game to the hard drive though.

Well, there is, but to talk about it is construed as software piracy, so let's not talk about it.

In short it involves copying the game one way or another...which is illegal regardless of whether you paid for the original copy or not...

So considering what this could lead to...should a mod close it?

I know there is software to do it (which you can legally buy for $20 off any game website), but I want to know if it will work with GT4, since it says 95% of the games work, but some may not.

I am going to put a hard drive in my PS2, but again, my question is not is it legal (because backing up games is 100% legal for personal use), but if I can save my GT4 to the HD.

And it can't even lead to piracy, because you need a hard drive, a network adapter, and the software, plus an original copy of the game, how the hell can you pirate software that way?

It is a simple Yes or no question that I need answered here. Not a step-by-step on how to do it...

Copying games that you do not own, such as borrowed or rented ones.

I see.

But, again, my question was.

Can I save MY GT4 to MY PS2 Harddrive. It is a yes or no.

No need to get all fired up about it because I am NOT asking how to do it. Just if it can be done or not. :dunce:

Oh and for the record, Sony sells a hard drive and software to do just this, but again, they say it may not work on all their games.

Maybe. In all seriousness, you might be able to transfer it, but noone really knows for certain.

If someone did come on here and say "Yes, you can." That's great. If the next person asks "How?" I'll slam this thread closed.

My suggestion, is that you give it a try and answer it for everyone.

Thanks. If I find the answer, or if I get the harddrive installed and it does work, I will let you guys know the results. I just wanted to know if any one does have a PS2 hard drive and tried it.

Because Sony sells a hard drive and software in a package with one of the Final Fanstasys to do just this, but it is too expensive and I am going with a cheaper 40GB hard drive by Maxtor or Hitachi (Most ATA hard drives work in the PS2) and 3rd party Hard Drive PS2 software.

Yes, you can get GT4 onto a harddrive. But it doesn't work with the normal software you mentioned, you need to modify it. As stated, I can't give you any more details. But there are threads about this in this forum, so another seach might help you.

Well you can rip any game to ps2 hard drive all you need is a ps2 Hd loader. But i dont know about GT4 because i know you couldnt get a pirated copy of it as of the copy protections and it couldnt be split onto 2 dvds as games such as Metal gear solid 2 substance. This couldnt be done with GT4 because of it having so many menu's etc and you would have to change discs for example when you want to go race on a certain track or something like that. but saying that you probably can do it because you wouldnt have to split the DVd so i'd say it is possible

You can make a hd loader if any one is really intrested just say so than ill get the website which tells you how
