You probably live next door to an exchange though :P I know a dude who gets a 10 ping because of that, and that's good in Australia, anything under 50 is pretty staggering.

After looking through some comments, you mean to tell me that online play with the PS2 is free? I probably can't do this stuff because I don't have broadband. That is, if I wanted to play online.

PS2 online is free, except the purchas eof the netowkr adaptor of course.

I am not buying GT4 entirely coz of online play but it is one of the main reasons. I am love to play GT, but racing the opponents isnt as challenging as it could be, and i try to race mates but i know how to get past them and win, so they dont play the game with me. Online gives people like me the chance to have some extended fun. When i say people like me, i mean people that have their friends not want to race or play them in a game coz they are better at it than them, and im sure theres alot of you here.

So bring on the challenge i say, at least you know a human player will block their racing line and accordingly slip stream you when needed and try and outbrake you which makes the excitment level go right up for me.

I just hope they have good restrictions and rules for the online races cause I don't want to be up against gimps who have their 'tricked out' gimp machines with 1000BHP when you're trying to drive a near standard tuned road car...

I don't need online play to make GT4 enjoyable... I do enjoy comparing times and the OLR's that already go on.. and I guess they'd be better if done realtime... but they may also get less attendance from your regular friends than existing OLR's as people can do OLR's whenever they want and mail results after...

^^^ Current OLR's are about times and times alone... Racing is different... you can't always take the perfect line... etc...

I personally think OLR is going to make the game much more popular. I see comps that get run on GTP for instance, well i wouldnt mind joining into those comps but i dont have a capture card or anyway of capturing a replay of myself. With online play they can run a online comp, aswell as a send in your replay comp, they can have judges who watch the person do their event, such as drift online and they can judge in realtime. It just sets the bar so much higher with being able to race against people who you know you will be able to race good against.

Afew people have compared there fastest times from GT4:P and theres some very quick time in there. But when you have other human competitors you might either not be able to get those times or you might go faster, it all depends. But online play is certainly going to be the anchor for me buying the game, although even without i will buy or course but once i finish the game online play will just be amazingly popular with everyone who owns the game i reckon.

I guess part of my problem is that I don't have broadband. The first game I bought that has online capabilities is "NCAA Football 2004." And as you EA Sports fans may know, who got online play first between the XBOX and the PS2? The PS2. I'll discuss XBOX Live in a possible future thread (it will be a nice one, so don't comtemplate any attacks towards me).

So if online play on PS2 is free and doesn't seriously entail any charges except from ISP charges (that someone else in the family is paying), then maybe someone really has tried to win me over with GT4 Online Play. Of course, I'd want to do this every now and then. So based on the problems I have with online play as it relates to GT4, can you tell me fact from fiction? Like I said, I never hated online play. It's just that, I think games rely on them to be better games. I don't think you can play Soul Caliber 2 online, but that was a great game even though all I played were demos. I KNOW you can't play Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution online. Not even a feature. And I know you require online play for games like Final Fantasy XI (also that HDD). I guess it's basically about money, time, and all you need to play online to begin with. That's kind of been my main issues. Of course, I'm being honest. Why would I lie about this?

Anyhow, the beans have been spilled. Or in other words, I've told my story.

John, online play makes games better. It's FANTASTIC being able to race (and mock) random people.

And how could you possibly discuss xbox live when you have no idea about it?

The points you made are utter trash, OFC having online play makes a game better, it can add a HUGE amount of life time to the game. Online play is fun, cheap and well, brilliant. The cost of online gaming is VERY VERY VERY little compared to the amount of enjoyment you can get out of it.

It strikes me that your trying to make out that the single player will in some way be worse because of the multiplayer, which every sane person knows is a load of crap.
GT 4 online play will be free, fun, and hell, anything beats racing those dumb ass AI opponents right. Oh and pwning cobragt on the nurb will just make my day ;), yes that's fighting talk :D

(screaming loudly) Uh, CobraGT? Your old rival Code_Kev is calling you out... again! When GT4 comes out, we may have a "Best of Seven" series between you and Code. And we need a halftime show with JGTC Race Queen hotties pretending to be NFL cheerleaders. You know, just to bring more, uh... male attention.

Okay, I'll just shut up. Have a great day, and happy birthday, McLaren'sAngel! And I heard Jim Thorpe (is that his name?) edged out Michael Phelps (USA) in the in the swimming relay at the 2004 Summer Games. So... rejoice Australia! Of course, good luck to all our Americans over in Athens.

Agghh we have a challenge already issued i see, wont mind seeing this.

Yeh i too gather that you feel online play will only be issued to make the game better, but yeh that is the case. After everything in GT3 the next obvious logical step was online play. They havnt put it in to compensate for something being bad in single player mode, its just a addition to those of use who want a bigger and wider variety of challenges.

What code_kev said about the amount of enjoyment you get from the amount of money you spend is absolutely correct, you couldnt possibly imagine how good it is. PC online gaming is fantastic, but being able to play online form your tv while laying on the bed or lounge makes it feel more comfortable. I for one know i race better when sitting confortably, unlike in the crappy pc chair.

I reckon best way to work it out is tot ry it when the game is released, only way to find out exactly if you like it or not.

IAN THORPE, lol. Hope that helps 👍

Ring some ISP's and inquire mate. You can get soem broadband at dial up prices these days, but of course that limits your downloads but it is a good example of the fact that higher amounts of download limits wont be too dear.
