I still like your B/W Beamer better! Even though it's not the cleanest of pictures, it does'nt matter! It's suppose to be a little blurry! And the Blue border on the last one you uploaded kind of kills it for me. I don't want to sound too blunt or rude, but it just does'nt go well in my eye. It seems too bright and is distracting.

This is definately MORE than just "honest assistance". This is as blatant as it gets. Assistance would be suggesting that the entrant increase or decrease this that or the other WITHOUT saying that if you don't do this that or the other you won't get picked.
I understand that in order to make our pictures better each time we go snap a few some feedback is required. That is not anywhere near what I'm talking about. I think that telling someone that if they change their first entry, the new entry won't make the cut, ESPECIALLY by the one picking the finalists, is tainting the contents of the poll. As you can see, I haven't quoted any of the constructive critisism that was posted at all.
I think that in ANY competition that once you've submitted your FINAL entry that it should be your FINAL entry. Posting a picture as your FINAL entry and then telling us that it will change is pretty silly. We all have "viewing" software to preview what our entries will look like. You can even upload the picture to ImageShack and see what it will look like BEFORE you copy/paste it into the Final Entry post. If you don't like what you see, don't post it and then change it later. Or be "coached" or talked into changing it by someone else.

This competition is not perfect. It never will be. There will always be someone to compain about some aspect of it, but im not going to change the rules every time that happens. The fact that you can change your entry makes people try harder to make a better picture when they see what they are up against. When 440 told dangerorange to change his entry back, he was not playing favorites with the person. He was playing favorites with the pictures, which was his job for the poll. He saw a picture he liked, and suggested it be used. You are the only one that is making such a big deal of it.

Please dont rant in this comp again.

Not anywhere near a rant Treefingers. I respect 440 and everyone else's opinion. Just stating my opinion with back up information. I know this competition isn't perfect. None of them are. The only point I'm trying to make is for everyone to try and keep a level playing field even if it is only an internet contest.

My point that I'm trying to make isn't about advice that is given to make everyone's pictures more in line with the theme. Giving advice on how to make everyone's pictures better is pretty much a neccesity. How else are we to improve our"skills" if we don't get feedback?

What I'm trying to bring out is the fact that at least two entrants were, in essence, told that if they didn't change their entry back to their original entry that their photos wouldn't get picked. By doing that, and I'm probably the only one that will see it this way, the other entrants were told that there are only 8 "slots" available instead of 10. Therefore, in my opinion, the final 10 was, in a way, only the final 8. Yes, it's the "job" of the one selecting the finalists to advise the entrants of what is been sought in the entries but, I think that we should draw the line at telling them which picture to enter.

It goes back to the "rule" (in this case, the understanding) of not asking which picture to enter. Without the two entrants asking for opinions about which photo to enter, they were "coached" and/or directly told which pictures to enter in order to make the final poll. Yes, I can understand that only the highest quality pictures should be put into the final poll but, shouldn't it still be the entrant's opinion of what THEY think is a better picture to enter without being told that if they don't go back to their original entry they won't make the final poll. They obviously changed their first entry for a reason. If their second entry doesn't make the cut, out of courtesy for everyone else, wouldn't it have been better to address why certain photos didn't make the cut? Tell the ones that changed their entry why the second one didn't get picked and why the first one would have. Then the user would know what they did "wrong" and improve their next entry in the next competition instead of "robotically" changing the entry in order to make the cut without knowing why.

This is not a rant. I'm not crying foul. I'm not PO'd because I didn't get picked. I'll be the first one to say that my "skills" aren't anywhere near as honed as most other users here. This is just my observation/opinion about how things went down in last weeks competition. It's not meant to get anyone's dander up. I'm not all worked up about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think 440 Charger ever explicitaly guaranteed that those particular shots would unconditionally make the top 10. Obviously if there would be 10 other entries better than the shots that were advised to be used, those 2 wouldn't be in the top 10. That's fair.
So your point is not about advice, but about guaranteeing a certain photo will be in the top ten (regardles if there are 10 other entries better). That IS advice. He is not saying that that shot WILL be picked no matter wat, if the DOR is smaller. He's saying that that change would give that shot the biggest chance (possible for THAT shot). It doesn't mean this shot will also be picked even if there are 10 other photos better. But the fact that this WAS a very good shot and that there were no 10 other entries significantly better can make one ASSUME it'll get picked. But that's because of it's quality, that's not unconditional buddy buddy.

Hmmm I thought I did... maybe I refrased myself without the quote. Anyway, I consider that quote into my opinion. I'll elaborate:

First of all, it could mean "getting into the COMP" (not necesarily the top 10), actually meaning "I strongly advice you to use that photo". But humorously saying it in an imperative way, like "I am ordering you to use that photo, you don't have a say in this". The way I understood it is that he's actually just saying how much he really liked the supra shot, and how much better it was compared to the merc/audi one.
And even if he meant that that shot WILL be in the top 10, it is "at the moment". Meaning of all the entries so far, that (supra) shot is one of the best 10. Nothin unfair about that. I really don't believe that he meant the shot will be used even if there would come another 10 entries that were better. But as I said, you can ASSUME it would be in the top 10, since the shot was REALLY good at it wasn't very likely that there would come another 10 better entries. But there's nothing wrong with that ofcourse.
