IMHO none of these entries really scream "vote for me". I think I'll pass on voting this week.

Seems a little out of place that the one picking the Top 20 picks his own picture. Like it's been said many times before and not just by me. This is more of a popularity cotest than a PHOTOGRAPH contest. I don't have a problem with Orbit's picture, what I don't agree with is that he picked his own picture to be in the Top 20. Now whether or not he gets any votes is not the point. HE picked HIS picture when in order to show some sort of sportsmanship, he should have picked someone else's picture instead of self-glorifying himself like that. But, what the hey. I still think that the winner from the previous week should not be allowed to enter in the current week's comp. Just my opinion.

Agreed. I feel that in a "top pick" category, you can not enter the comp you are judging.

Now over in the mag comp area, it is a different story. There, everyone gets to vote on all the submissions. There is no top picks - just the complete set of all entries.

Fairness needs to prevail.

Once again I never made the top twenty, but I have to ask how the hell did that third last pic get in? it's the ****test heap of crap I have seen, a car in pitch darkness with lights on, what is so good about that?

Bah. Slowly losing my motivation. I was awed at many of the pics this week though. I wasn't really expecting to make it too badly, but I still can't help but be disappointed. Oh well...I guess everyone thinks their pictures are better than others that got in. Well I still like my picture! By the way, great work everyone, the entries this week are amazing. Gotta figure out which one to vote for now. Probably the one least like mine...

JTSnooks & mrplo - I'd hazard a guess that both your pics are lacking focus in many people's opinion, at least in comparasion to some of the leading shots that are sharper. Everyone would be disappointed not to make it but you can hardy complain given the high standard this week, although I did think criscross79, dustdriver and MyLeftYarble took excellent shots worthy of the cut. Judging from the week 12 entries so far there is plenty of new talent around and you wouldn't be blamed for B-speccing this week and sit back to enjoy the show!

I did not take notice of the user names associated with each photo (this would help few of you anyway, from my point of view), I picked photos as photos. This is surely reflected in the number of votes I have received thus far.

If the consensus is that the winner should not choose their own photo, I will follow the rule in future, as [sometimes-] nonsensical as such a rule would be. But after asking twice and receiving no official response, I saw nothing wrong with choosing my own photo as I thought it was worthy.

I'm not commenting further on the issue as this thing is supposed to be a bit of fun. I can't afford to get bent out of shape for something so trivial.

Sometimes I'm glad that you're all figments of my imagination.

Honestly, I voted for your pic without knowing whom it belonged to. I wouldn't pull my vote now knowing it is yours at it is quite good, but I think a conflict of intrest could apply in this situation. I think the overall lack of maturity of some of the entrants FAR overshadows someone picking what is a great photo, albeit their own, for the comp.

But how could you NOT KNOW that you picked your own picture? And if this is to be "a bit of fun" then why not make it fun for someone else? You've had some fun by winning the week before. Give someone else a chance too. And from what I can tell some people don't take this as something trivial. If the competition is do trivial then why enter in the first place?

Yes, you asked and were given an opinion by someone else but you chose to ignore it. It's not really a question of if you were allowed to enter or not, it's a matter of having the courtesy and sportsmanship NOT to pick your own. Yes your picture is a good one but, it would have been in your better interest not to include it.

Your last comment was also very enlightening. It's nice to know that you think the rest of us are ALL non-existant.

I have absolutely no problem with somebody putting their own pic in the top 20. If it's good it'll get votes, if not it'll be forgotten. In the unlikely chance that I ever won a contest, I wouldn't do it though. Too many whiners... 👎
