wow! its nice seeing my photo up there with the top 20's! this is the happiest day of my life!

Please elaborate on the "style" type of themes.

Suspend you for stating your opinion in a respectful manner? No.

I guess that would mean like panning shots (I think there was a week of panning shots?) or front/rear shots or side shots or B/W shots, specified color shots (like week 2) etc. etc.... instead of themes where you have to have a certain car on a certain track. I think "Style" type themes bring out more artistic, creative images that have a much more elaborate, elegant, and beautiful quality to them. Those are the kind of photos I like to take, instead of trying to be witty or clever, or even being lucky. I know you can do that with most themes, but, I don't know...........

What says "excitement of motorsports" more than a race car? How is a picture of a race car more boring than a picture of a regular street driven car?

And I guess I said racecars are boring to take pictures of because they are too hard to take pictures of. With all the sponsors and numbers on the cars, it just takes the beauty out of them. They don't look sleek and elegant, know what I mean??? Yeah, sure, motorsports are exciting, but you have to watch motorsports in a replay or you have to be there to experience it first person so you can not only see the racing, but hear it! It's kind of hard to capture all of the excitement in one snapshot!

That's pretty much what I said. And I guess it's not necessarily harder, because I could still get the same angle and get 2 cars battling just like any other 2 cars, but they just don't look as nice as a normal car because it has all of the sponsors on it and all of the racing equipment. And to me, none of my pictures that I take of a racecar seem to look good. And also, I think alot of racecars are ugly. Like the LMP car, they are just ugly to me. It's hard to take a sweet looking picture of an ugly car.

Well, sorta. I guess I should revise what I said from being "boring" to be being "non-attractive". And then since what the picture has in it does'nt look appealing to me, then sitting down and taking pictures of racecars is boring! Thats what I am trying to say!

I think there's been a good selection in themes over the past few months and I don't think there's been any that could be called bad - some are a little on the uninspiring side, but that's more to do with personal taste (ie Charger440 doesn't like race cars, and I can't get excited about old Japanese sedans).

But variety is the spice of life and it's good to see a range of themes from abstract stuff such as this past week's one or the 'Relaxing Holiday' theme, to specific themes, ie 'Best of British' or 'red convertibles' (for example). It all encourages creativity through everyone having a slightly different interpretation of the theme, and that's what makes the world go round

heh ... im just the opposite. im not a huge fan of non-race cars. lmp/group c/gt1 were what interested me enough in gt4 to purchase it in the first place.

Well, it's not that I don't enjoy driving racecars, because I love driving all of the cars in GT4 that go over 2 mph! I could sit there and do 100 laps around the Nurburgring in a LMP car, or a Honda Civic, and equaly enjoy driving both of them. It's the enjoyment of driving that encouraged all of us to get GT4. I just don't enjoy taking pictures of racecars as much as normal cars.

valid points on the theme... so i'll thow in my interpretation.
Its very hard to make still photo capture something as viceral as "excitement"
its easy to capture beauty, style, or some other characteristics.
however excitement is one of those things that is hard to see in a still image, without making everything blury and hard to enjoy looking at.
I was trying to take the angle of "putting you at the track"
make the photo look like it was taken trackside, so you could look at it and possibly put yourself behind the lense... as in my opinion, the easist way to convey excitement was to try and put the viewer in the action... the cars doing an exciting thing came secondary.

I don't know about that, I've seen many races that have ended with a pretty close finish, that compounded with the nervousness of "is the car going to make it all the way", and "please don't crash now, please don't crash now", could make a pretty exciting finish not only for fans but the crew themselves.

I don't understand whats so cheesy about a border? When you have a nice picture what do you do? You frame it, a border is no more than a frame. It gives the picture a sense of balance, contrast, and depending on the color you use it can help bring out the colors in your photo as well.
