This a preview of week 50 so that you can vote for the number of laps we will run this week. Each lap is pretty long (roughly 8'30 to 9'00) so the number of laps really matters a lot.
Multiple cars will be allowed, and I posted some specifications below so that you can start to look for matching cars and pre-practice before you vote.
The exact settings will be posted after the poll is closed. What I can tell is that I'm planning to run with the roof open so that there is only 1 AI opponent.
The poll only proposes 1, 2 or 3 laps, but you can vote for other and explain what your suggestion is in this thread if you would have liked to vote for something else, like 20 laps, or 5 opponents (roof closed then), or whatever.
Votes will be open for 48 hours only and are not anonymous because I want to be able to ignore unregistered WRS drivers.

Edit :
I voted other myself because I don't want to influence the results.

Im in 2 minds about this...

16 mins vs 8mins.....

I like the ring, but to spend 2 laps!!, what if I crash on last lap?

Im afraid i will have to be a "*****" and vote 1 lap. :P

8mins of intense driving is enough for me :P

I'm with small fryz on this one. I think 2 laps would be too intense. I would however prefer more than just a single AI opponent to make it a bit more interesting. So running with the roof up would be my preference but i guess that kinda negates the idea of choosing a rag top in the first place. So i'll go with anything. 👍

I voted 3 laps!!!

Everyone wants to test consistancy any other time multiple lap races come up, why not now? ;)

Also, on the Ring I'm a fan of running several laps in a row. 👍

I do that any way and it's pretty much the only thing I do now-a-days since I've started working and lost all my time to play games.

I can understand the single lap votes.
The Ring is a big course.
However, I would love to see how consistant people are on the Ring. :D

Plus, in a 1800cc convertible it wouldn't be a break-neck-speed lap so two or three might not be nearly as hard as you would think (especially compared to something like the last WRS-Ring lap in the heavy weight DB9).

Whatever the result of this, I'm down and hope to get in on the racing.
Until next time,

I voted one lap, BUT maybe if you could loosen the "off" rule so we won't trash as many laps, I might be okay with more. I know that this probably ins't a good idea as people may be inclined to stretch the spirit of the rule to gain an advantage, but...

Maybe at least 1 tire instead of two? One off per lap, or per both? Something to reduce the frustration level... Or we could man up (sorry Nat and Excelero) and just drive clean...

Still don't know what car I want to use... I'd love to use the Fairlady 2000 roadster as I used to own one, but the engine is too large. Can we use a P/W equalizer? Maybe 200 hp/ton or something like that?

I love the 'Ring, but 1 lap is enough to handle all at once, for me.

I also vote for the "open roof" option. The 'Ring is way too narrow and twisty at the beginning for easy AI passing.

The Wizard.

I will have to say one-lap as two seems to much for me. I am already far enough back as it is :dunce: Can't wait to run this combo though!

While I'm not quick in the Ring, I like the idea of 3 laps 👍
Yes, it's a long time, and my butt will get sore... LOL
But trying to put together 3 clean laps, be a hell of a challenge :)
Granted, I'll be cussing up a storm after putting it off in lap 3 :grumpy: or start getting tight nearing the finish :scared:

My vote goes to 1 lap, 2 or 3 is quite long. Plus, multiple laps will be exhausting come replay verfication time....

EDIT:
Having a hard time finding cars that fit the requirements, I've only found 4 so far....
I have found the 2 cars I will test for this, both really close in hp, torque, and weight...

@SHig: 2 tires on...I think we can all handle it :)

I've only found 2 that i reckon will be competitive. Probably the same 2 your thinking of testing; the ??? ?? and the ?? ?????.

There are more than 4 cars, that's why you have 2 extra days to look for them :sly:
I'll post a list of the cars that have been found in the race final thread, and a complete list later in the week.
Extra tip : there will be power restrictions so that all cars in the list are closer in performance.

Bah. You've drawn me into running this. I'm voting 1 laps.

Why the limit on the bottom of displacement? I'm sure quite a few may like to run the cappuccino or the copen.

Maybe...

I would be surprised actually, no car under 1750cc has a chance against a 1800cc. With +20% power, the Copen reaches a terrific 74hp ! You'll fall asleep before reaching T3.
But yeah, I might remove the bottom limit in case someone wants to try a slow car (and, btw, the Caterham is not a convertible :D ).

I'd like to suggest another thing besides something Cyril. How about we have a rule to keep the car secret for the race? What always happens in this kind of thing is one racer finds a good car and everyone uses it which pretty much takes the fun out of having multiple cars. I like testing different cars to find good ones and I think others do as well. That search is usually ruined when someone posts their car within the first day :(

i vote 2 laps, 3 is slihghtly too long at the nurb. but finally, a multy lap nurb race, yipee

I found a couple more. So with the MX-5s and the MGF, there is the '99 and '02 MR2 and the awesome looking Fiat Barchetta.

Do Elises count as well? That's all I can find.

EDIT: Just a thought. If the majority of us want 1 lap, will we just do a hotlap without a AI? It seems kinda silly to me to have the AI if we're only doing 1 lap.

Elises are a targa top so i doubt they will count.

Oh and i picked 2 laps. In these sort of cars keeping it on the track shouldn't be to hard.

The MR2 would be good if it is allowed to have the power put up on it otherwise it doesnt have the guts to get up the hills.

I like Ben's idea not to mention which car we are using / we've found at all.

And as you say Casio, I don't see the point to run in Single Race mode for just one lap. Even strong tyre wear doesn't make a big difference in just one lap, and it would be much more convenient to run a practice session than to restart after each lap.

Hi all

I voted for "Other see in thread" as after running the N.R.S for 17 weeks Im up for any amount of laps of the Ring, love it!

Car choice will be interesting, I wasnt actually aware there was a "Roof" option? I vote for keeping your car choice secret as that would add to the racing in a positive way In my opinion.👍

So are you putting a list of available cars up tuesday for us to pick from the Cyril?

regards

Dave

2 laps, only 1 AI opponent (it's too tough to pass more), and car choices secret.

Hey Cyril, the vote seems to be split evenly between single lappers and multi-lappers, with the multi-lap vote split between 2, 3, and other. Any chance of having a basic single lap vs multi-lap vote, with the actual number of laps a secondary vote?

Sorry to be confusing.

I've gone for two laps, and I'll also put in a vote for keeping the car secret. 👍

I like Kent's idea about checking the consistency of racers - rather than who can put in a single, blinding (fluke) lap after hours of practice it'll be a better judge of the true racer. Well, that's my theory anyway.

A list of elligible cars would be much appreciated here - I'm a little too busy to look, sorry.

I voted for two laps. And the voting, at the minute, is split evenly 50/50 between single lap/multi-lap.

I for one find that doing hot laps around the ring is not something I really 'enjoy', the pressure to push hard around every one of the 140-odd corners makes my head hurt.

However doing multiple laps at a consistant pace, and getting a fastish race in is much more pleasant, and better for my blood-pressure.
In a multi lap, you can screw-up a couple of corners (not to the point of going off, just out brakes and missed apexes) per lap, and still put in a reasonable time, without the constant re-starting that hard pushing causes.

Also, keeping the car each person uses secret is a great idea! But a list of the suitable cars would be highly appreciated.

I say this even tho no-one has yet mentioned one of the most obvious cars to try. The engine size is in the name of the car, for anyone who needs a hint!

Also it's a great pity that the Elises are (as previously mentioned) Targa tops, and don't come up with the option to remove the roof in the race options.

My $0.02 worth

Well, I can't resist a good Nurburgring race. :D

Hopefully school won't catch up with me, I really want to put in a good effort for this week.

Also, I voted for 3 laps. But regardless of the length, it should be a very interesting race! And also, I assume tires, power, and weight are all adjustable?

Yeah, what he said.

Hello everyone, long time no post.

I will be attempting to join in with this race if possible and will do my best to produce a good, consistent time that gets me back into the running.

Lets just pray that there arent many more rallies in the S4 soon.

I voted for as many laps as possible, as i never tire of running the ring, and i'd just like to know the car list so i can start, but i'll have a look in bit and narrow the list down to the options available and start testing.

Good to see the usual suspects hanging around the WRS and of course, no Veilside to beat us all by 5 minutes come results day.

No offence Veil
Right, off i go, hopefully see you all around soon!

:irked:👍

check out the "SELL" page. I think it is there, also when you purchase the car it shows engine type(I4,v8,I6 etc) and size(disp)
