Okay, as promised it's 'Kei car' time. There are lots of different rules on what defines a 'Kei car' according to Wikipedia but the last one they list, and probably the easiest way to define a 'Kei car', will form the basis for this weeks race:

Week 82 : Stock Arcade Car < 64hp @ Clubman Stage Route 5 (Normal)

week082oq9.jpg

Game Mode:
Arcade Mode --> Time Trial --> City Courses --> Clubman Stage Route 5 (Normal)

Car Specifications:
Note: There are at least 15 eligible cars for this race:
  • -10% weight (different final weight for all cars)
  • Stock power (you cannot change the power of your chosen car)
  • any driving aids
  • any Normal tyres
Note: Some eligible cars need to be won/purchased in GT Mode before you can use them in Arcade Mode.

Regular Race Rules:
Standard clean OLR rules:
  • 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track at all times
  • rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • no contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • if you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
  • no hybrids
  • no cheating of any kind
  • nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • save your replay ('save ghost' icon)
Week 82 Race Rules:
You can choose any car that has a default power in Arcade Mode of less than 64hp. There are many different cars that fit the criteria, with a little bit of research and experimentation you'll no doubt find the Kei car that suits you best 👍

Thread rules:
The following info cannot be discussed in this thread (they can, however, be discussed on MSN or via other private conversation methods):
  • lap time
  • any information which can be used to infer lap time
Submission:
All submissions must be sent by PM to me (MisterWeary):
  • you can submit only once per race
  • please include in your submission PM your division, name and final lap time
  • deadline is Tuesday 21st November 11am GMT (L.A. 3am, Toronto 6am, New York 6am, London 11am, Paris/Berlin/Rome 12 Noon, Syd/Melb 10pm)
  • if you are still unsure of the deadline try this site
Time verification:
Save your replay and keep it at least a full week after the time has been submitted:
  • fastest times each week will be required to submit a replay for verification
  • any submitted time is subject to a time verification request
  • when a time verification has been requested, the concerned racer must provide a replay before the next race deadline
  • failure to do so will result in the removal of the unverified submission from WRS results
  • video replays are not accepted, only .max, .xps or .sps files can be verified

Mmm... So basically, the actual kei-cars aren't eligible? They've got exactly 64 (63 on some screens) HP... You also said "About 15 eligible".

If they're not eligible, who's going against me in a Honda S600, or Toyota 800?

Looks good! I will try and make an effort this week.

i'm in - always love wrs weeks where car choice is involved.
don't know exactly what you mean by 'about 15' - are those the serious candidates? because my source (what other than the vault) tells me there are 30 cars eligible.
anyway - off to the track trying out my 5 candidates.

Hmm... Lets just wish my Arcade Mode works. There are times when you wish your GT4-disk would, Just once, do what you want it to.

Righty-o...first splits. I persevered with this car in testing because I think it had the best Power to weight ratio HOWEVER I don't think it'll be the winning car this week. Nevertheless I reckon this is a pretty neat lap in it all the same:

T1: 0`26.369
T2: 0`47.966

In the Suzuki ALTO WORKS 👍

when i look at the hp figure of the kei-cars they are all at 63, such as the copen and the beat. but the vault says they are 64 !?!? am i doing something wrong here?

anyway, my suzuki (arcade says 63, the vault says 64 hp) gave me the fastest first clean lap at

25.810 - 47.798

and i wonder what the others will pick first.
probably doing something wrong cos i could never beat colby i guess.
is there a difference in hp figures between pal and ntsc?

Tried 2 cars, the Daihatsu Copen '02 (62hp) and the Suzuki Cappuccino (EA212) '95 (63hp). After running 5 laps with both cars it was clear that the Cappucinno was much faster, about 1.5 seconds by the finish line.

Anyways, after those 5 laps with the Cappuccino i managed these sector times,

T1 - 24.782
T2 - 45.208
Average finish

As Colby's Alto Works has 64bhp, I'm assuming the rules should read "<=64bhp"?

If yours reads "bhp" you've got a different power configuration I believe. It should read "hp" and then you'll find it's 63 :sly: 👍

True, in cars with this little power, who needs the "brake" part!

The "hp" vs "bhp" could be important this week. When checking replays etc to know what car people used and if it is legal, so can everyone make sure they have their power reading as "hp" and your power should be "< 64hp"

Cheers,

Now I'm going to bed :)

in the Cappuccino '95

nice car to drive, have to whip the skin out of it to make any decent progress. it is actually quicker to shift gears a good 500rpm from the redline, and use the torque of it (if there is such a thing in a car with a modest 63hp) to make a quick lap.

another 0.2-0.5 left in it for me hopefully... nice race this one Colby, good track choice too...

so now it's official i am allowed to use the '95 cappuccino. good. 5 more practice laps and away melt the seconds.

25.381 - 46.271

and laptime only a second away from my goal for this week.
no aids, normal tyres and ferrari red paint for speed and looks :D

I looked and searched, and the Cappuchino beats everything when it comes to torque, and it is also one of the lightest. The Toyota Sports 800 only weight ~500-450KGs, but with less power AND torque, it looses bigtime.

Got to the low 0'46s so far, but DREs after every session...

According to the GTP car list, ~29 cars have less than 63 HP, and several more have 63 exactly, do they count? I was really hoping to use the Beat this week.

Yeah, they count. You can use the Beat, Cappuchino, Autozam, Whatever: But the Beat has half the torque the Cappuchino offers...

The '95 Cappacino(EA21R) actually has the best power to weight ratio in this class, and it's at least 9kg lighter than ALL of the other 63hp cars. It should be the winning car this week. But, there are a few others that can come out to play if you drive them fast enough, although, I fear not quite close enough for top position competition. I guess we'll find out on the track though!

Daihatsu Copen Active Top '02
T1 25.215
T2 46.625

First car I found that met the requirements. Not bad.

This looks like fun. I can't wait to finish my 24hr race (8 hrs to go) so I can test these small cars.

In that case, I think the '15' should be changed to 47.
I'll try this in the Beat first, if I get addicted I'll stick with it, but if my times aren't fast enough I'll switch to my mortal enemy, the cof...deca... err, the cappuchino.

Decaf??? Pah, I'm gonna need all the caffine I can get this week.

One frothy EA21R coming up! :D

Darren.

ok here it is. i just copied it from gtvault and added some spaces in notepad. don't be fooled by the 64 hp figures, it's 64 bhp equalling (!?!?!?!) 63 hp. the table is sorted on ptw and i only give the best/most probable choices.

And the Minica Dangan ZZ sucks worse than its name!

I tried it and then the Suzuki Kei works before going and getting myself a cappuccino. When I came back, I got in my Cappuccino and set these times
