:: GT4 WRS Week 86 ::
Righty-O, a few weeks ago when we were at Fuji there was talk of having a proper multi-lapper so my main aim this week is to address that. The car and track are quite simple to get used to but negotiating the A.I and maintaining concentration for 10 laps can prove a bit tricky.

well well - have to find out if i like this combo but it's a nice change anyway.
colby, what are we supposed to publish - all laptimes but last? that's gonna be a busy luxy this week?

Can we use the Opel Speedster Turbo? I don't want to spend money on two identical cars, and Vauxhalls don't even exist in my country. They're all Opels...

Sounds good, though. But perhaps enforcing a speed-limiting penalty is better?

Yeah I was thinking about this and I didin;t come up with a solution. Maybe we could post Lap times for laps 1, 5, 9 or something and forget splits???

I've heard the two cars are identical but I don't want to take the risk that they're not so it's Vauxhall VX only 👍

Even though it's a biggish multi lapper I think the challenging part will be maintaining a perfectly clean race. Your total race time will be less than 8 minutes so it's not too big, almost like one slowish lap of the ring so we should all be able to remain 100% clean this week 👍

I accuse Colby of extreme overkill. Volvo Bricky? City Turbo?

lol...yeah guilty as charged, you end up having to overtake them like 3 times or something too on -10

Here's my splits from my current race. This format should leave plenty of mystery and also be easy enough to update all week:

Lap 1: 0`47.018
Lap 5: 0`42.848
Lap 9: 0`41.092

If people think this is a silly idea for the board then I'm open to negotiation 👍

i vote total race time rather than individual laps.
still leaves enough suspense during the week about final total race time.

EDIT after an initial go i wonder if you should try to drift or stick the corners. if you try hard you dont need to brake anywhere along the track but it probably wont give fast laps?

REEDIT metar begged for some splits so he could hobby around his new plaything. thes is my very first try so dont laugh - or do as you like.

50.155 - 43.887 - 44.359

Well, except for 3 places, I noticed you can easilly grip with those S3s without braking. The only braking is needed: Last Corner, First (sometimes), and the first part of the uphill chicane.

Board Initialized
(How do you do the red underline, Colby?)

Lap 1: 46.0xx
Lap 5: 40.6xx
Lap 9: 40.6xx

took me over an hour to find a decent AI setting which I could get past in just over a lap... had AI at +7 with Sports Hard tyres on them... trouble with other settings is the lack of areas to pass cars if you have the difficulty too hig coz the cars are too quick... and if you have the AI too low you end up lapping them a couple of times and they can slow you down through the middle of the race

and a race time under 7 minutes is what i expect from you Colby... :P

oh and this is a fairly easy car to drive on this track other than passing the AI, use 3rd gear for every corner, except the last corner, which you take in 2nd...

EDIT: The best race i managed by over a second, not much left in it for me

Lap 1: 46.151 (best was a 45.965 - but the extra tenths actually proved a hindrance and not a help)
Lap 5: 40.554
Lap 9: 40.568

this will probably be my final time already... see what i feel like after the weekend...

almost like one slowish lap of the 'ring

Does this mean Brad will give us another amazing show of backwards-driving?

And if it's not too late, could you turn tirewear on? It'll make the whole run more interesting, because rather than mechanically driving the same 9 laps, the braking and gripping will change a bit...

I'm with Metar. Combo seems interesting, but some tyre weary would be nice. Gives us more oversteer and makes the 9 flying laps less 'boring'. What do you think, Colby?

how about splits in this format

fastest lap
total time after 4 laps
total time after 8 laps (leaves some suspense)

Edit: now that I think about it, I think it would be telling too much. Lap 1,5,9 is ok.

Sounds interesting, but Vauxhall doesn't seem to even exist at this point in my NTSC version of the game. Is there something I can do to change that?

Yeah, I don't have a Vauxhall either. Can you just change it to the opel?

It can be bought in GT Mode, UK Dealers, Vauxhall, New. PAL has both manufacturers, and I don't see a reason why NTSC shouldn't.

EDIT: According to the North American Carlist, there's no Vauxhall

Perhaps this week needs a whole rehaul?

well when i made the suggestion for the 10 lap race it was in something a bit quicker ;) but i also suggested that we have tyre wear on Mild right here ---> https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2476492&postcount=1226

it would make for a little bit more variety in this weeks race, but i think the challenge for a lot of people will be to do 10 clean laps with no AI contact (and be quick too)... a lot harder than it looks this week

i probably spent 2.5 hours straight trying to get a quick run and i finished the race maybe 4 times

Actually it doesn't look like a bad combo, I'm really tempted to give it a go right now despite the fact it's just after 4am.

The last 10 lap race I did in the WRS was a loooooooooong time ago. It was pretty fun, so hopefully this one will be too.

I was refering to the thing I quoted - about the ~8 minutes time being close to a lap on the 'Ring...

Well as another NTSC I can definitely say that Vauxhall doesn't exist. But right now I'm staring at the quick tune-up screen for the Opel Speedster Turbo, and +20% power and -10% weight still ends up being 237hp and 904kg.

So unless NTSC racers are prohibited this week. It's obvious the Opel Speedster Turbo must be the choice.

OMG!!! Speedster is one of my favs, though I prefer the NA over the Turbo (more oversteer it feels like on the NA)

Tire ware needs to be there, and I feel we should just have the time penalty enforced, as racing 10 laps here with the bone stupid AI is gonna get annoying. :P
