If I'm right,
the challenge already started there?
Is anyone present?

I'm afraid we won't get news of this challenge?:(

I had a go earlier in the day, but unfortunately wasn't able to stay for the challenge.

They've cut the play time down to 1min30 only, so definitely time for one lap only at a time. Had a few attempts, but could only get within 2 seconds of the daily record and nowhere near the show record - which must have been a brilliant lap. Still, it was good fun.

Im going tomorrow, but unfortunately im the only one of my group of GT friends that doesnt work 9-5 so ill be by myself, but ill try to get some footage and send it in. Also im going on friday with a mate and hes bringing his HD cam and will get some real footage. The 24hr enduro should be over now right? Time for everyone ele to have a go.

I'll be in tomorrow as well Maxiboy. Gonna watch the 24hr bit (cheers IGN), and hopefully have a go after it's done maybe. I'll take my Camcorder with me.

No, the 24 hour race still has just under 16 hours to go, assuming it started on time.

So did I! I set the record for the day at 1'18.1 something (that was at 1pm, so there was another 2 hrs until 3pm when the 24 hr race started). I'm hoping in wasn't beaten, but i wouldn't be surprised at all if it was. The Record for the week was in the 1'14s!!!

Does anyone know where we can find footage/info about the 24 hr race? I wish I could be there to watch at least some of it. Who are the 48 drivers? how were the chosen/vonlunteered?

Nice work on the 1:18.1! My best was only 1:20.1. As I learnt the track and the car I was improving every time. I have no idea how someone got a 1:14 either. If I was more cynical I would say that maybe he changed the car setup or tyres somehow.

The best for the day when I left was 1:17.4, so no luck for you there unfortunately.

I did a 17.2 on my run. previous record was 1.20

Lots of understeer at low speed in that car though. was hard to get a good run onto the straight. and there is a corner over the back of the circuit that i understeered wide into the wall.

going back tonight and i'm chasing that 1.14!

wouldnt mind a new PS3, as i still have the 40GB original!

I think in all fairness it would be reasonable to think that this might include some increased aspects of the endurance races...not simply an extended 5 lap race x 100.

Honestly i would be surprised if it wasn't just a 5 lap race x 100 scenario

More details from Kotaku OZ

- Damage model was on and looked awesome.
- Didn’t drive with the clutch and H box, I’m a bit of a noob in that regard.
- It was such a long race that there was very little interaction with the AI, so nothing to report on that really

Let us know how you went joshmuggo.👍
I got a big ass post to type up, but I'll leave it till tomorrow.
I will say the fastest lap of the whole show doesn't get the PS3 as far as I got told joshmuggo, theres a playoff on Saturday against the fastest drivers.

Thats my video by the way CoolColJ. :)
That was on about my 2nd or 3rd try at it.

Extremely corny, and pointless.

Exactly not really a great way to show GT5's awesome 24hr race feature.

#1 team mate "I'm getting tired I'm going to pull over at turn 6"

#2 team mate "Okay I will run up there and switch out"

I guess the tires they were running were made in fantasy land, and the cars ran on air.

As close to launch as we WERE features like fuel, pit stops, and tire wear should already have been shown especially since the race they were having lasted 24 hrs.

Hey Guys,

Ok well i went back last night to the show, took my time and actually had a look at the cars and didn't just take a photo and keep moving.

Anyway, as for GT5, i had 3 more runs on it to try and get the top time. And let me just say, there is no way that a 1.14.2 was set with Auto and all aids on. I'm waiting for my video to upload to youtube now, but as you will see, you cant go much faster than the 1.15.8 that i did (although my first sector of my second lap was up 0.3)

The physics on this are awesome, for those of you who have played the "Best Buy Demo", then it is the same as that. There is a lot more focus on weight transfer and also with tyre grip. I saw a lot of people driving down the straight, weaving from side to side and that was it, they were in a full on tank slapper.

Braking is improved also as a result, which makes braking in a straight line all that more important, and trail braking a lot harder. with all your weight shifted to the front wheels, any jerkiness under brakes and your in a full slide.

Graphics were a real treat. the game flowed seamlessly, and looked genuinely amazing. the lighting is perfect and i'm sure driving at dusk or at night, will cause some people, as jeremy clarkson puts it, to have a crisis!

Will update this post with the video when it uploads. Feel free to ask any questions.

So yeah, basically everything that josh said. The weight transfer was a lot more noticeable, I spun out a couple of time braking hard and turing into a corner and such. Felt really nice, framerate never went down once. Using the same wheel I have, so it was nice how it was going to play when I eventally get it. Pity I couldn't use manual.

What time did you go in?, as I was there till about 6pm. It was really fun so naturally I had a few goes. First lap was a 18.6, then a couple of 19's (lol), then it just went down. Got it down to 15.7 after a few times. Then I found a couple of new lines through some of the complexes (this probably after having 20 or so laps, hey It was fun!), result:

Hey, I thought it was impossible at the start too. Nice to know I beat a professional racing drivers lap however :P

So envious!

Was that you? Awesome job, after having only 3 laps i thought it would take forever to get there.

How good does my judgement look now!!!

well done mate, you were probably there the same time as me, but your time was set before i got there to have a go.

i know there is a lot of time to make up in the first corner, and the third. did you record your record lap?

Congrats mate, so what happens now? What do you win? (if no-one beats it that is)

Nah, I tried to get another lap recorded later on, but they said they whern't spose to let anyone record stuff I think.

Did you read my previous post? You might have to call back to the show on Saturday for a play off (well, thats what I got told). So might see you there :)

And it's over:

CROMPTON ANCHORS TOYOTA 24-HOUR RACE WIN
Former V8 touring car driver Neil Crompton has led his team to a thrilling victory, racing Toyota's FT-86G Sports Concept car in the 24-hour Gran Turismo® 5 Challenge.

The Challenge, presented by MOTOR magazine, was fought out on PlayStation® 3 (PS3™) simulator pods on Toyota's stand at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

Crompton, now a Network Seven commentator, was the lead driver for "Team Red" in the virtual race around the hallowed 22.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife (northern loop).

Despite the length of the track and the race, Crompton's team completed the twice-around-the-clock race a mere three minutes ahead of its "Team White" rivals.

Each team comprised 24 drivers who raced for one hour each, experiencing a virtual interpretation of the racing capabilities of the FT-86G.

MOTOR magazine editor Andrew MacLean recorded the fastest lap time during the race, laying down a 7m27.36s lap - a time which would place him among the fastest real-world production car lap times at the track.

The lap record for the actual circuit, nicknamed "The Green Hell" by thee-times Formula 1 champion Jackie Stewart, is 6m48s.

Invited journalists and guests participated in the event included select motoring writers, automotive and tech bloggers, and specialist gaming media.

The aggressive lines of the FT-86G were masterfully recreated by the game's developers in the Gran Turismo 5 game.

Developed with assistance from Toyota's technical partner GAZOO Racing (the 'G' in FT-86G), the FT-86G Sports Concept was designed to connect with younger drivers and to promote the fun of sports-car driving.

Soon to launch in Australia, Gran Turismo 5, exclusive to PlayStation 3, is the latest installment of the driving simulation franchise developed by Polyphony Digital Inc.
