GT5 Demo Engine Sound

So you probably did not play prologue, or the GT5 demo i guess. The sounds from exterior and interior are different.

The sounds in the demo are far better than in GT5 Prologue and they rank among the best and most realistic car sounds in any video game. But the exhausts are a bit to quiet and the noise of the wind is too loud aswell.

The sound pitch, loudness or anything else changes when you alter your view. I will say that the video provided matches the demo sounds, which is good.
I take back my "rubbish" comment. The car does not sound meaty that's not pd's fault. Didn't mean to offend sorry.

Happy new year.

I didn't know anyone actually bought G8's! I thought they were destined to fail in the US. (Please tell me you know where that car was built and by whom)

Btw I think the 370 sounds fairly lifelike. Still vacumm-ish but good.

i REALLY want a g8 gxp but can't really afford one on a college budget, despite pontiac being canned by g8.

g8 originaly buily by monaro i think, as the vxr 8 (in aus), and with the vauxhall badge in europe, right?

Built in Elizabeth, SA alongside Holden Commodores, by Aussies; evidence found in the giant Holden logo on the GVWR sticker on the inside of the driver's door. They definitely did not fail: rave reviews from every automotive publication - particularly in the case of the GXP, which is analogous to the HSV versions - sold as well as anything during the economic downturn, and almost all sold by now (less than 100 left on lots, IIRC).

I will be somewhat disappointed if no version of the VE Commodore makes it into GT5.

ITT, people who've only ever seen youtube of cars and never owned a real one.

Protip: A car sounds different from the inside than the outside.

I really wanted a G8 GXP also but got the G8 GT cause that's as far as I could stretch the budget.

As far as the sound in the game, the one thing that bothers me is the sound echos off the scoring tower. In real life if you caught the echo at all it would be only a fraction of a second right when you were perfectly aligned with it. In the demo you can hear it well before and after the tower.

I'm pretty used to the echos from stationary objects when I'm riding my harley, and it's a very on-off type of thing, not the waxing and waning thing in the demo.

Sounds AMAZING ! All you people who think it sounds like a hoover need to either get your hearing checked, or buy a better TV, or sound system, because there is something seriously wrong with your setup.

Thing is, it sounds realistic for whatever view you are using, you aren't going to hear the exhaust much when sitting inside the car, you hear the engine, transmission, tyres and wind.

The problem is that people think the sounds in the likes of Need For Speed Shift (rubbish game) are realistic, they aren't, but thats the sound alot of people want, totally over the top arcade sounds, you aren't going to get them in GT5, so just move along to the NFS aisle, thank you.

Built in Adelaide, South Australia in the suburb of Elizabeth, along side Holden Commodores, Utes, Statesmans/Caprice.

I live in Adelaide and a have been in the factory a few times, including when they were making pre production test G8's. Now I am seeing a lot of Holdens with G8 front ends in Holdens attempt to get rid of the excess G8 nose stock.

No the sounds are realistic. youtube 350z acceleration and you'll find out. It sounds extremely the same in GT5 (370z, I think both are the same imo).

Yes the Z sounds like a vacuum .. I wish I had a V8 Vacuum cleaner too

they just used one base sound for all the gears, and stretched it out etc. Might be due to keeping the demo size down etc. We will soon see!

It sounds like they pulled out their generic V6 sound and slapped it on the demo. The stock 370Z engine note is a bit lower than the one in the game. It's not a huge difference, but the real car sounds like it has bigger "attachments", as David Hobbs would say.

I don't think a 7.1 HDMI digital audio system should be needed for cars to sound right in GT. Just pick any 0-XX mph video on Youtube featuring a stock 370Z and you will hear the difference even with cheap headphones.

7.1 system does not make difference in sound quality but it makes them sound go from different directions. Does high quality music editor use 7.1 system, no. They just use quality headphones. Headphones or Tv sound system must be adequate to hear all the effects.

It begins with the recording of the sound and then it is all downhill from there. :) Sort of.

When recording anything, we are trying to convey what we hear with our ears (interpretation), and often times are using multiple mics for the task. I use 4 to 5 mics when recording a single acoustic instrument, each one picks up a unique sound, and often times they are set at different distances from the instrument. They'll also be focused on different parts of the instrument. If it has a pickup on, then I'll even give that its own separate track. Different people will also set the mics up in differing ways and with different uses in mind.

There are so many other variables at play, but this is just the first phase and is very subjective. Then the reference monitor (studio, etc.) is involved with mixing down... It is a whole series of tweaking that is very much dependent on the individual, their emotions and their memory of the sound, not to mention how that idea will be conveyed on umpteen numbers and types of speakers/systems.

Finally we are at the consumer. Take your favorite song and play it on each of the systems in your house (computer, shelf, car, surround system, ipod) and notice the varying degrees of sound and what each is enhancing/diminishing. Now imagine the differences between surround systems and the various makers who are tuning the speakers (not a mistake) the way a car manufacturer tunes the exhaust.

So you are all right. The sound is just like the 370z and the sound is also rubbish. I feel both ways. :mischievous: Just remember to speak of the sound in terms of faithfulness, rather than perfection.

Outside of the sound quality, there is one aspect that I do not like. If you bring the car to a complete stop (Normal Car) it produces such a lovely and loud hum, but then if you apply a bit to the gas, in 1st, the volume of that hum drops instantly to something minuscule as the new sound comes into play. In other words, there is no smooth transition. I hope that they fix it. I could see it happening if you are being too heavy footed with the gas, but then I'd also expect to hear the scream of higher pitches (which didn't occur). Oddly enough, the hum lasts quite a bit longer if skip 1st gear and begin accelerating, from a full stop, in 2nd. Go figure.

I actually quite like the sound from the demo, and was impressed. It does sound similar to the real car, but I think the tuned car sounds more like it than the stock car, only with a little more oomph. Hopefully they can get the sounds perfect, but I don't have high hopes for it.

This is US version of the 370z.. might have different exhaust because of different laws and regulations..
Sounds about right.

That sounds just like my 5.1 even when he down shifts its dead on man. Also see howthe car is a little snappy in the first part good stuff PD 👍

They still don't have any good sample when engine is taking off from the idle. There is only weird humming as the sample for 3000 rpm's is extrapolated lower instead of real grunty low rev sound. This and lack of really angry highest revs sample under full load is doing all the bad sound of GT. Their sound engineers suitable maybe for any B-class game just don't get it while the game is maybe only few weeks from release. It's a shame, really...
