Frankly I'm dubious about trading cars with anyone I don't know, why is there no option to send a car to a virtual broker, then when the person trading with you sends the car you want in return to the broker only then the trade will complete.

You could also have the option to require a set amount of credits rather than a car.

Seems like a rather large oversight that such a feature does not exist.

So a broker a good idea, yes or no?

Edit: sticky request please :)

It sounds like you're saying GT5 has an illegal dealer that sells and buys cars and drugs.

If I were buying a rare car of huge value in real life I would most likely do it via a broker to ensure my money was safe.

Brokers don't only deal in the black market, ever heard of a stock broker?

I understand what you are saying there but there is a reputation thread in which you can see if people have been given positive feedback after their trade. You should be able to see if you can trust someone for multi million car deales there.

As system like that is fairly easy to exploit with multiple play station accounts and forum sock puppets.

I wonder what PD's policy is on scamming people out of cars, I bet they don't even have one, which is misguided as giving an option to gift cars was always going to mean trade of some sort and when it comes to trade there are always those willing to scam.

I wonder how long it is before we see cars and game items avaiable on ebay or WoW gold websites as you do with other games where you have the option to trade. If there is an option to make money in a game RTM websites will be on the scene in a flash.

Edit, just checked, it's already happened lol.

Why not just an option to "Trade" cars, as well as "Gift" them?

Yes this is what I mean, but it would require a virtual broker for this to happen, something in between the 2 players, probably server side to make sure that the requirements of the trade are met.

I do agree that is is possible to exploit but i don't think anyone on here would do that. PD kind of knew there would be trading, but i don't think it was their full intention seeing as there is a limit of 1 car per day. Personally i have done several trades and have not experienced any problems yet. I would like the idea of having a broker but for me it is fine the way it is.

Is this not what the rep thread is for?

As I said that's easily exploitable, with the ability to sell cars for real money I can see such a system being exploited by unscrupulous individuals. It happens in Eve Online(where scamming is actually aloud) people scam you and sell the in game credits/items for real money(which is not aloud).

Sorry people this thread wasn't meant to be anything about RTM, but the ability to scam people just got me thinking about RTM and how damaging it can be.

I would like a broker, but i'm not too worried about the lack of one now. I've done several million+ credit non prize car trades, and haven't gotten screwed over yet. Completed a 6 million credit trade today in fact.👍

I'd like to know what the reasoning behind the 1 car a day rule was all about...

To make RTM less easy I guess.

But that wasn't the point of the thread, I just got side tracked.

It's still no valid reason not to have a secure broker though.

What's RTM? I'm not quite up to speed on the lingo. I sure know what grinding is though

RTM is a process whereby companies illegally(or legally in a few cases) sell in game assets for real money.

Such companies are often willing to break all the rules to maximise profits, such as scams or even steal your credit details after you've purchased something of them. Even with the inherent risks many people still use RTM services due to the amount of time it can take in some games to acquire certain assets.

I don't believe PD wants us getting too heavily involved in trading, period, as they limit gifting to one per day. From their perspective we're already "gaming" the system by making a market out of it.

Just don't deal with anyone you get a bad feeling about, look at the rep thread, make sure they have been on the forum for more than a couple weeks.

And really if you're going to be that bummed about losing any given car, then don't trade it away in the first place. I mean, I'd be upset if I got stiffed, but worst case I have to actually play the game that I enjoy to buy it again

I don't think there should be a feature for this. The gift option was made to give friends cars for free. Someone just got the bright idea to trade them.
