GT5 Physics compared to 2010 TT Physics!

Ok I have checked and I haven't seen this thread before, but it is something I have wanted to discuss since gt5 came out.

Who played and remembers the GT TT in 2010?

The physics in that blew me away. But in gt5 I dont feel the same level of immersion.

I thought we were going to get TT physcis + even more refinement and realism, but instead I feel like we got something in gt5 got a few steps back.

I am not sure what is actually the case, but has anyone done any actual anylysis as to how these 2 versions compare?

Is it just my imagination?
It might be the placedbo effect, I cant tell, I just have a feeling the TT physcis felt more real time and edgyy to me.
 
You can't really compare them because the TT is gone, but I think the physics are as good in the full game as in the TT. I think the time trial forced you to use a certain set of tires and not to use aids. Plus, when you have to do the same track over and over again, you get really into the little details of the physics. That is what created the immersion and the realism. I think you have just gotten used to the physics and don't do time trails as much probably. Personally, I think that the fact that I am not worrying about physics shows how the game has come so close to realism and has improved my skills to where it comes naturally.
 
Is the same car available in GT5? The only way to check would be lap times.

The TT was an incredibly twitchy setup, very hard to control oversteer. Without the TT demo, the same setup in GT5 and in RL it's hard to say what is more realistic but I wasn't completely convinced with how hard it was to control the car in the TT.

Lol its gone but I still have it on my ps3 hdd. I wonder if anyone can hack to renable it again.

Forced you to use tyres? I have tried every tyre in gt5, still doesnt feel the same. Also I ussualy drive with all assits off. Still doesnt drive the same.

Have tried the same car, still doesnt feel the same. Same track as well.

The only thing I dont know is what tune and settings they used for the TT.
 
the TT demo was from the old build that had both arcade and simulation physics available, what we saw was probably the original GT5 simulation physics, with the final physics being decided as a medium between the two.

So it is a comporise? i.e less realistic and thus worse...

With Comfort Medium tires on either the 350Z or 370, it feels amazingly similar to me. My lap times are virtually identical after a bit of lapping to get warmed up. I do know that it's just a bit easier, just a bit, but I don't know why it feels so different for you.

Its not so much I feel the lap times that are differnet. 2 totally different physics engines can get the same lap times out of a car around a track. IMO using lap times to compare whether the physics have changed is meaningless.

It just doesnt feel as "edgy". Its hard to describe, but I feel like the update rate of the physcis and its response seems lower in gt5, like more averaging and smoothening out.

Like it feels for every 6 updates you get in gt5 you would have 10 in the TT academy. Also in the force feedback, it seems there was more updates in TT.

I hope you know what i mean by updates btw...
 
i tried the same car, and sports hard tyres. But the lap times were way too fast.

Then i tried comfort soft tyres, lap times were way too slow.


I have no idea what the difference is between gt5 and TT demo.

But i too think the TT demo was more realistic.
 
I remember TT Physics added better control over the car compared to Prologue (which was sliding all the time) but too much bitting on the limit with drifting almost impossible and road tyres were far worse on the limit than slicks which was pretty unrealistic. Those Nissans were like 80's Porsche Turbo on wet road when you came onto limit. I have been driving FR cars since I got my licence but that was really too much.

GT5 is slightly polished and playing with the car on the limit is actually possible while you can still feel inertia and all the other physical things that happen with a car.
 
TT is too snappy actually, the final version is better. It is easier but IRL cars on road tires are rather forgiving at high slip angles.

I don't know if you can safely say they were too snappy. Thats what i liked about it, you felt like you were connected with the road, not floating on it.

Tuned cars, especially the 370, with low profile tyres, a hard stiff suspension tune combined with a still small wheelbase chassis like the 370z is, and track tyres make an edgy car.
A lot of tuned cars like this aren't very forgiving and dont flex like a lot of road cars you reffer to with more gradual grip levels and more flexible tyres more body roll and looser suspension etc

Did you drive in GT Academy this year? The same car on Tsukuba was ALMOST as bad as it was on the demo from last year.

Heres the thing, just because its snappy and hard to drive does NOT mean its realistic. The TT demo had the loss of grip at the limit turned up way too high, JJ72 is right, road tires aren't that unforgiving. In the TT it was like you were floating as 1 slightly wrong move you weren't saving the car, you were looping it around. Thats not realistic.

I felt the same.

I was very excited when i played the TT in 2009 because it felt great!
If you floored it out of a long corner you could feel how it loses the grip slowly and you could do very nice little drifts like this. I cant describe it properly..

GT5 still has very nice physics but i feels more like GT5P then TT.
It would have been better to keep standard & pro and leave SRF out imo.
 
I too feel a little underwhelmed to say the least with GT5's physics model compared to the 2010 GT Academy TT Demo, I feel it was watered down for the masses & even though I've got used to it, I still find it quite dull & uninspiring.

Have you people played GT5:P recently with the same cars? GT5 feels nothing like GT5:P. Prologue was like skating on ice, GT5 feels more connected to the road

Take some cars around Indy Road course and the physics feel the same as in the TT, just with better tyre modelling.

Watered down it is not. With a WHEEL. With a pad it feels different because in the TT, they had 1:1 stick to steering wheel mapping. In GT5 the steering lock is speed sensitive and the game controls it, so it's not as twitchy and there are some hidden aids.

I thought the GT Academy round at Tsukuba was so realistic it was almost scary. Haven't gotten that feeling in most of the rest of the game, but I almost never use Comfort tires either.

I honestly suspect that the physics model effectively "adapts" to the complexity of rendering the situation -- a single player doing a practice run on a short track is a completely different computational task than a player + 15 AIs at the Ring in full rain.

I think the License tests should have been given a more realistic feel; instead you couldn't even turn off SRF on most of them.

If you dont feel a difference then you have no ideal what you are saying. The TT physics was basically the same as GT4. Which can be said it really sucked as did GT4 physics. GT5 has some of the best physics out right now. The only thing I can think of that would make anyone want to say they feel no difference is they didn't play the TT, can't remember, or have no clue. GT5 has the best IMO for a console and is almost as good as LFS.
