*didn't order four*
Even if you did, you will not get four - not at that incorrect price. Despite what people think, Amazon will not have to honour that price unless they have taken your money first. Given that they only take money when they dispatch, no contract has yet been formed and so they will cancel any orders at the incorrect price and ask people to re-order if they still want to.

And yet:

Amazon
Pre-order Price Guarantee

Amazon.co.uk's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and dispatched. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price you pay will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you placed your order and up to and including the release date. A pre-order price guarantee message will appear on your Order Summary during the checkout process.

This product is covered by the Pre-Order Price Guarantee and, though the product is now back to £38, my order shows 4 at £17.59.

It'll cost me nothing at all to find out if they honour it or not.

It's got to be Prologue, i think they just labelled it wrong, the price is around/same as prologue.

Nope... On my "Your Amazon page", it says, "You purchased this item on 4Aug 2009", and then links to the correct game..

2 secs. Screenshot or it didn't happen..

Amazon
What we do about mispricings

Despite our best efforts, a small number of the more than 1.5 million items in our catalogue are mispriced. Rest assured, however, that we verify prices as part of our dispatch procedures.

If an item's correct price is lower than our stated price, we charge the lower amount and send you the item.

If a product's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will cancel your order and notify you of that cancellation.

Please note that this policy applies only to products sold and shipped by Amazon.co.uk.

They did this with Folklore and Lair for the PS3 in 2007 for 14.99 each. People ordered and then asked Amazon for confirmation and got standard emails saying yes of course we will, but 2 days later they all got cancelled. I ordered Folklore at 14.99 at they didn't honor it.

They went to the top of the charts as every game site was running the amazon error.

Scroll down within the link. We all got this reply afterwards.

Dear Customer

We are writing to inform you that the price for the following item was
displayed incorrectly at the time you placed the above referenced
order:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Lair (PS3)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Despite our best efforts, with the millions of items available on our
website, pricing errors can occasionally occur.

In our Pricing and Availability Policy (see
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=1040614),
we state that where an item's correct price is higher than our stated
price, we will cancel the order and notify you of that cancellation.

Your order has now been cancelled. If you still wish to purchase this
item, please place a new order online which will be charged at the
correct price, when we dispatch it to you.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by
this error, and rest assured that we will continue to make every effort
to maintain the accuracy of all prices on our site.

We look forward to serving you again in the future.

Warmest regards,

Customer Service Department
Amazon.co.uk

Indeed - I've had this crap before with HMV. Until the money is taken, no contract is formed - merely an "Invitation to treat".

However GT5 is covered by their Pre-Order Price Guarantee - which only applies to products released after 25th February 2008 (so not the two games you mentioned). So they appear to have two policies in conflict...

Nevertheless, it'll still cost nothing to find out. As you say, we'll probably learn in the next week if they start attempting to cancel orders.

The way I see it is if they have made a mistake then im afraid they should bite the bullet and honour the pre-order. I have to wonder was this a deliberate mistake to entice pre-orders! It will be interesting to see what happens come release day.

If they don't I think I shall give Amazon a miss in the future.

You're in a queue of one.

Luckily I have 3 spare copies, so I'll cut you a discount. $200?

That's why I always stick to Play.com.

But Famine please update us if you happen to get 4 copies of GT5 in the post on launch day. :dopey:

Yes it has. My order hasn't though.

I'll keep the thread updated. We should find out if Amazon will honour it or not in the next 2 weeks.

I have seen this happen before on other games (I guess an attempt by Amazon to drive interest in pre orders)

Very happy that this time I went and ordered straight away and will (hopefully) get the right price!

I noticed Amazon offering low prices for pre-ordering blu-rays such as Dances With Wolves, Contact, Heat - £9.69 to be exact.
Much the same as this offer, it only lasted for about 12 hours, then the prices shot up to £17.99.
They have since come back down to £11.98, but this is an example of what they do, so you never know with GT5, it would be one hellva bargain 👍

They won't honour it. It's a trick to get a good pre-order chart, to beat their own competition. They'll get more royalties, etc. They don't have a great record. Absolutely awful (bordering illegal) treatment of employees. Some story broke out last year on this.

According to their own rules, for all preorders after February 2008 the customer pays the lowest price they offer until the game/DVD/CD comes out...

If anything changes, I shall post here first.

At the end of the day if we don't get that price then we don't get it. GT5 for £17 is a great deal and I'd otherwise be more than prepared to pay the usual £35-£40 for a new game I'm really looking forward to. I hope I get it for £17 and if they cancel the order I will be pointing out their policy to them in the hope I can still get a great deal, but I'm not going to get all worked up over it.

I have two on order, and as Famine mentioned we should know in the next couple of weeks whether they honour it.

I had this same issue with Lair as someone posted earlier in this thread, after many emails back and forth with amazon they basically said that when a pricing error has occured it makes any kind of lowest price protection null and void (you know how companies will always have some clause which covers themselves).

They have the power to automatically cancel your pre order without your consent or up the prices on it back to what it should be, but if you do manage to get GT for that price hats off to you! I just hope 4 copies of GT5P dont end up on your doorstep!

Actually I have a question about amazon, can you preorder items without having any payment cards currently linked to your account?

Because I want to add a card nearer the release date of another item im looking at but dont want to miss out on the intro price.

Thanks,

Robin.

Indeed - but the Lair issue occurred before this new policy was implemented, guaranteeing the lowest price they offer for any preorder for any game/DVD released after 25/2/2008 on which the Preorder Price Guarantee is offered. Like GT5 :D

If they do the latter, they must do the former first - they can't offer it at one price and then actually charge you a higher one without notification.

However the price is only an "Invitation to Treat" and until money is paid, no contract is formed.

I don't believe so, no. I had to enter my card details before the preorder completed.

Mines been cancelled as well. Will fire off an email complaining later in the week, and if they wont do anything about it my order will be going to Play!

still, was kind of expected....

Bit strange really for a company which "prides its self on providing the best standard of customer experience" (have just spent the past 2 weeks writing a 5000 word report on Amazons corporate strategy, and had been reading so much of this 'we are so great for our customers' type stuff....
Now how to work this into it.... :P

Amazon have just sent out a mass email saying the cheap pre-order price was a mistake so you’ll have to place an order from tomorrow at the full price blah blah blah…

At least it justifies getting the special edition

There's no confirmation there will be a special edition, everything anyone has said especially about an edition that gives free access to DLC is pure speculation. Neither Sony nor PD has made any comments on the matter.

I've sent them an email pointing out the clear breach of thier own policy that cancelling my order is. See if I can still get it at the cheap price. If not, I tried.

Hi. I'm from Spain, sorry for my low english level, in my country if a companie makes a pricing error must sell the item at the price offered, even if they include this possibility in their rules. Maybe in UK it's the same, someone Know?

While I never had GT5 on order with Amazon, I am still angry about all this. While I can't prove it, I am certain that the "pricing error" was NOT an error. You can't accidently set a price at 17.99 when it should be 39.99, even a six year old wouldn't accidently press two out of four numbers wrong and not even notice it.

This is done completely intentionally, by doing this they attract trafic to their site, therefore people could very well pre-order or order something else while they are there, getting them business out of this "error". It doesn't end there either, when they cancel everybody's order, most will leave it and not re-order at the correct price, however if only 25% re-order it is still significant business that they have genarated by this "error". This is not the first time Amazon has done this and if they get away with it and people keep ordering from them, it will not be the last time they do it.

I kind of expect this behaviour from a small company, but Amazon simply do not have to resort to this underhand tactic, that they do is simply appalling. I hope everyone who has had their order unfairly cancelled fight it, sure you probably wont get anywhere, but at least Amazon might not do this again if they have to put up with lots of complaints. Challenge them, you deserve to pay the price that they offered.

More likely the pricing error was caused by someone confusing GT5 with GT5p (which I guess to the uninitiated would be a pretty easy mistake to make) rather than pressing the wrong buttons.

not going to stop me complaining though!
