GT5 Steering Angle #Fail

As seen on Ken Block's Gymkhana at 3:00 minutes into the movie here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl9r4oCHiOI

the steering angle is locked at 720 degrees.

Or here 1:29 minutes into the movie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGSnLGgeai8

the steering angle is locked at 540 degrees.

With my wheel it's locked all the way at 1080 degrees. :grumpy:

Now I don't mind that it's impossible for some cars to manually set the steering angle (for sake of realism for those cars that don't have the option to configure it)... But for the rally cars and most other racing cars it should either be adjustable through the car configuration of set to a realistic angle by default.

In most extreme situations it's just physically impossible to counter steer fast enough. It's like running around with your hands tied to your back. One little mistake and you're face down in the dirt. For me this lack of setting the steering angle completely ruins the whole experience.

I've always felt like Rally racing was a backseat feature in the GT series, perhaps that is why it is left out?

I don't have all the numbers. But according to this:

http://www.carbibles.com/steering_bible.html

"For racing cars, the steering ratio is normally much smaller than for passenger cars - ie. closer to 1:1 - as the racing drivers need to get fuller deflection into the steering as quickly as possible."

which I believe is true. 1080 degrees is more for street cars. Handy for parking or making U-turns etc. Not something we're doing with GT5 anyway.

👍
I never need any more than ~130deg lock. So the rest of the 900 degrees (insert flashing lights, smoke effects, etc etc) of my Logitech Driving Force GT is just marketing w:censored:nk.
(unless someone is planning to release an Extreme Parallel Parking game...snore...)

I'm not sure if you understand my point. When looking at the video's I posted above for example. Consider that when Colin Mcrae and Ken Block turn their steering-wheel 180 degrees you'd need to turn 360 degrees in GT5 to achieve the same amount of steering. This counts for most of the cars in GT5.

^ yeah, I understand. My belief is that while the PS3 wheel has 540 deg lock in each direction, most of it is "dead zone" and the only bit that matters is the first ~90deg. So you're getting full lock long before turning the wheel 2 1/2 times.

That's how it feels to me, but I might be wrong.
:dopey:
