As for Tz's comments, one could also argue the other way. I found what made the RBE the most horrible was that you couldn't drive the same way lap after lap which leads to horrible inconsistency in driving style. Maybe now with the RBE gone those same slower folks will get more consistent and start to challenge their uberfast friends up front leading to even more incredible races. I can only hope that is what happens - either way the punters still stay in the back.

I thought I included that in my dual sided argument. Valid points, it goes along with creating a more sensitive environment - sensitive to improvement - and how that will lead to consistency and reward.

Whoopee Doo - to disable RBE probably took them (PD)about ....erm 2 seconds to disable so if they were really bothered about this they could of provided this a long time ago I reckon.

Lets hope they have some new cars/tracks or even weather effects or damage in the update - somthing to really get escited about.

I am not going to get excited just yet...yes RBE will be gone....but I want to see if the crazy drafting effect will be gone as well. You can draft behind cars pretty far away in suzuka650expert...so let's see. Hopefully they will remove it as well.

Won't happen, since the drafting, other than the RBE, is programmed pretty realistic ( in fact it's a little bit too weak assuming the wind comes from opposite direction ).

Sweet... the only downside i can see, is that now the amount of drivers wanting a no RBE race will be spread thinly across the other races. Just means smaller grids.

Absolute rubbish, you're bloody lightning quick!! Division 1 last time I checked! If it wasn't for the RBE I would never have caught you in those 1 on 1s at Suzuka in the Corvettes.

This is indeed fantastic news, I can't wait to see the new spread of events. It just feels like there is suddenly so much more scope for exciting events and races.

everybody will have his own battle on his own skill level, anywhere on the track. winning is nice but having great battles is even better. IMO

Has anyone actually turned on their PS3 to see what the updates were?

I haven't as yet, I have to spend the first part of the day looking for a job. The missus will go mad if I turn it on.

This sure is great, but I know for a fact there are plenty or nice drivers out there who's only chance to hang out with the faster guys was the RBE. They had no malicious intent, just liked to be able to race with names that they knew from the forums.

Now, unfortunately, those drivers will drop farther back, into the realm of the punters. At least before they were able to share their hatred of punters with the big names.

I think that overall it is still an improvement. Those same drivers are those who are trying so hard to improve their times, and improve their performance. Seeing their improvements rewarded is easier in a non-RBE environment, so I think that in the long run this will be to their advantage.

And grim, the way you worded the first post makes me worried. What's the bad news?

The reality of any competition is that some people are faster/stronger/better than others.
Look at the spread of times in the IFTC for example. This tells me that I am typically a mid-pack runner. This is because of my relative ability. I can't and don't expect to be able to run with the fastest guys.
Where I get my pleasure is competing with someone who is close to me talent-wise. Who cares if we are only dicing for 6th or 7th place?
Because of this I think that RBE is irrelevant. Sure I can go faster if I drop behind, but the boost effect diminishes as you get closer to the front of the race.
We may argue that RBE enables the dreaded punter to catch you up. Not true, because as he catches you his advantage is diminishing. If he actually catches you, it's because he is faster than you.
No RBE means we have a more pure simulator.
RBE just means that first place to last place is in theory closer.

Thanks to PD for listening to our requests and taking it seriously. While I am now consigned to be a mid pack runner as well, at least I will know when I do better it is because I have improved. Not because the software has given me a leg up.

Love the ideal of no RBE but afraid a lot of us ( myself included ) will discover we are not as good as we thought. Hey Leadfoot havent seen you in a while.
