Hello!
Just started playing gt6 and ive noticed major fps drops while racing. I did some laps on Sarthe in free mode and the fps is very low in cockpit view! is there someone else that have this problem?

Try a lap for yourself on sarthe with cockpit view!

Im using a PS3 slim 120gb. Running at 1080p with HDMI deep colour and Dynamic range for color enabled.

A few others report the same issue. I expect this thread will explode today...lol

Yeh my first few races on 1080p had low frame rates. Then I switched to 720p and the framer ate was smoother but the jaggie's were really ugly. So I switched back to 1080p. Amazingly it is now fairly smooth even on 1080p. Not as smooth as gt5. But good enough. It may be due to some CPU usage installing the game in the first 20 mins or so

You mean when you are alone on track? If so, that concerns me a lot since my primary enjoyment in GT5 is to pick a car and track and just run laps. I was hoping the framerate issues would be limited to racing situations rather than time trialing.

Cue a bunch of people telling us that they don't notice any framerate problems in GT games at all and that framerate doesn't matter anyway since the human eye can only "see" about 30fps anyway and heck, movies are only filmed at 24fps so yeah!

I was seeing some frame rate issues in cockpit mode. But it varies a lot, some tracks+cars were fine, some were not. I'm going to reserve judgement until the silly auto-install has loaded most tracks and cars and things have stabilized. For now the standard bumper cam is a bearable alternative if I find the frame rates too low.

We already knew this might happen after the GT6 demo, so it didn't come as a surprise. GT5 was also sluggish in cockpit view on some tracks at launch but they managed to tune that out in later patches, so I'm hoping for the same thing here.

P.S. I hope they also improve the object shadows in Brands Hatch and Bathurst - that horrible flickering at the side of the track looks really bad.

I can confirm those issues especially on the new tracks such as bathurst even in free runs. And as soon your car throws up dust the framerate Drops dramatically....

Can you guys also report what PlayStation 3 model you have and what video settings your running the game on.

HDMI deep colour and Dynamic range for color.

The human eye can see more than 30 fps. search it up! I cant believe that people still say this... nevermind back on topic.

Yes i just did a normal hotlap ALONE with the Pagani Huayra and the Xbow. I felt frame rate drops in both cars while in the cockpit view. While using the bonnet view or whatever you want to call it the game runs like it should most the time.

I got a 320GB Slim model at 1080p.

My PS3 fat has HDMI deep colour enabled and I think dynamic range is on auto. I was also thinking that we need to get a discussion going about the right settings for the new HDR engine in GT6 since colours were looking a little strange (too lurid?).

I'm definitely NOT saying that. But in every thread about framerates there will be people who do say stuff like that...

Remember that the game is installing itself from the disc as you play which I could see leading to frame rate issues at the beginning. Hopefully some of these issues will clear up after the game is fully installed.

Just play in 720p (still a good resolution for last gen!). at 1080p it's horrible and skipping frames even without opponent cars.

So the framerate is fairly stable in 720p in the interior view? I don't usually notice jagged edges in games like Gran Turismo so playing in 720p wouldn't effect me much.

It is better but still laggy. the Overall Picture in 720p Looks not really good.

I haven't noticed any framerate drops other than when I earned a trophy.

Though I'm not using cockpit view, and I've only raced on the following tracks: High Speed Ring, Apricot Hill, Autumn Ring, Nurburgring, and GT Arena. And my PS3 has a SSD installed, though I don't imagine that making a difference with GT6's frame rate since I doubt it's streaming areas of the track from the HDD.

Playing 1.00 on a slim PS3.

Only framerate problems I've noticed thus far is whenever I turn the windshield wiper on. It's actually quite ridicules how uneven it looks. I am noticing a lot of lighting problems and pop-in for world objects and shadows.

I'm seeing something that resembles NFS shift in terms of average frame-rate in cockpit view!!? Running now at 1080i but still not running anywhere near as smooth as GT5.
Yeah there's no screen tear but at the cost of what?

Where did you hear that rubbish?
edit, just noticed you replied to other guy and were just saying what some people say;-)

If the human eye could only see 30fps then you wouldn't notice the difference between a 60fps & 30fps game which is pretty easy to see.
Even 120fps is noticable over 60fps.

Also you might want to tell GT, Forza, COD and most PC gamers they are wasting time and money getting 60fps lol.

The reasons GT6 is running worse is PDs strange decision to up the resolution from 1280x1080 of GT5 to 1440x1080.
along with extra effects like tessellation.

The one thing GT5 didn't need improving was resolution, so what do PD do !...

There are absolutely frame drops and screen tearing...but its expected...the PS3 hardware has really been pushed to it's limits
Exactly guys... , I do suggest switching off extra processing crap t.vs have today like the smoothness stuff etc etc etc. If your t.v has a game mode, activate it. (ajust colour, brightness and contrast again) but for gaming, its important to have all t.v processing switched off.

Except why then would PD up the graphics if it meant the game runs like crap? That's a stupid decision and doesn't show very good development skills. The best graphics in the world mean absolutely nothing if it runs like a glorified powerpoint presentation.

We have a thread on frame rate issues already.
