GT6: Less cars, better attention to detail?

Actually I think you can put too much detail into a game, if it were easy and quick to model cars to an insane photo-realistic amount of detail and there were no technological constraints to show it then I'd agree.
But it isn't, and therefor it's perfectly logical to ask how much detail is actually needed, as a lot of detail on the Premium cars can only be seen taking close up photos and if you see what kind of things show up you can only be impressed and which were clearly done to impress.

But do we need to be impressed or are these things mostly irrelevant other than for close up picture purposes?
Do they have to model every small part (screws, buttons, air-valves, etc.) of the car as accurately as possible or would it be even noticed if they took a slight shortcut and focus on the most essential parts, meaning the stuff you actually see when playing the game, including Photo-Mode most of the time for most people?

Don't get me wrong, I love the insane amount of detail on some if not all Premium cars but I don't think we need more, less isn't an option either as I can see them going backwards on this aspect.
We just need more of them.

This so much when you're racing you're paying way too much attention to the road/racetrack and other vehicles on the road.

Again must strike a balance I'll admit don't want them to look like PS1 on PS3, but it doesn't have to be so real that even the slightest thing dents it into oblivion or some ****.

You can not put too much detail into a game. Especially when it comes down to cars. You wan't your cars to look as realistic as possible...don't you?

of course I wouldn't mind if they improve them...(what a rhetorical question...)

But: FOR ME PD should really put their focus more on "gameplay", content etc.!!!!

I am through will all races now except some endurance...

A bigger content would have slaved this off an adequate time.

I am sure most of us will prefer race events, licences etc. instead of photoshootings!!! (btw nothing against photomode...)

why remove the skylines and miatas, they have done one skyline r33 and r34 in premium so just copy past and just change the performance settings not so hard.
The only thing I ask PD is to not remove cars from gt5 standards cars, just put then all in premium pleaseeeee

Keep dreaming

How many years did they need for the premiums we have in GT5? How long would it need to make all standards to premiums? O_O
Too detailed? Oh yeah, absolutely.

Kaz was talking about exciting collaborations with new partnerships. I'm not quite sure what this could ultimately turn out to be? Any clues what this could mean?

Possibly it means partnerships with new automotive car manufacturers is one possibility but maybe it means something different.

Since it's all official and such that all of the needless duplicates are coming back, I wonder if they are at least planning on at least fixing the ones that are duplicates now but shouldn't be; or if they will be carried over unchanged again.

Kaz said the premium cars are next-gen quality. There is more than enough detail.

There are subtle differences between Skyline GTRs, R32 GTR vs R32 Vspec, R33 GTR vs R33 Vspec and R34 GTR vs R34 Vspec + M spec and then there's the N1 version for each generation. They are all different, as in real life there are major differences in handling due to differences in ATTESA programming for instance. The same goes with the NSXs, the Japanese and US version are different, especially with the Type S, Type R and S Zero against the base trim.

I still hope they include these models, they can easily use the premium models, alter the minor exterior differences and some performance adjustment, these won't take a lot of resources.

I don't usually quote posts to just say "agreed" or "damn right" but this post is very good and says all I'd had to say in the matter(with better language too!).

👍

Note: add Ridox2JZGTE to the list.

If you're trying to say to get rid of all the duplicate cars with minor details such as the 1991 Miata and the 1993 Miata, which are both the exact same generation model, then yeah.

But if you mean taking out unique standard model cars, then simply no. Won't enjoy this game with these hidden gem cars and legendary rally cars

This is kind of pointless since we already know that every single car will be carried over to GT6.

However, I have to agree in certain things like having dozens of duplicates. Those are quite unnecessary.

For once however, I'm happy that we will be keeping all those standards. In the last day I've had a lot of fun with many of them, and I think I would miss a couple if they take them out.

More like "completely unnecessary" ...

The Vauxhalls, duplicate Nissan's, Mazdas, Hondas, at least 30 or 40 cars could have been easily scrapped for good... heck, when I read that "all cars from GT5 are making a comeback"... ALL of them INCLUDING STANDARDS... no... just no... :ouch:

Aaand if you look closely, even the standard XJR9 is there, too...

Well it is too late for this now. The next installment on the PS4 will have more cars and more attention to detail than you can imagine.

Possibly going to derail this a bit so bear with me.

Visual detail, to me anyway, also includes teeny stuff most don't seem to notice or care about. I can only count 6 (non-race car) premiums where there is consistently great detail in and out.

I always felt it's kinda pointless to have so many polys if more obvious details such as wheels or tires don't look right. (E.g. 8C, 307 CC, DB9, XKR.)

Or having accurate seat belt positions when dash instruments that work in certain cars don't work on others. (Almost all suffer from this. Mostly non-working odometers and clocks in the Prologue-era premiums and some other combinations.)

Thus, one thing that's annoying me about GT6 is that the many premium carryovers don't appear to have had any improvement made to such exterior or interior details.

The stock GT Academy 370Z still doesn't have the correct rear wheel design and the GT-R's dash display at the tachometer is still static.

In addition, from gamescom footage, the Huayra doesn't appear to have a working oil pressure gauge. And the MP4's spoiler still doesn't feature the low angle tilt position.

So all in all, I find it somewhat disappointing at this moment.

Also, I don't really have problems with including standards since they've already been made and are almost completely carryovers from older titles anyway. I'd rather have a standard car over no car. (Though obviously a premium would be best.)

To answer the topic, I would take less cars BUT only if, in addition to the visual details, performance characteristics (deriving from more car specific stuff like tires, transmission, brakes, suspension type and the like) are not only better simulated than how they are right now, but are also region/market accurate to the specific model presented.
