GT6 - more arcade or real simulator?

Which stores are ripping you off on GT5 these days?! ;)

Ignore the trolls folks; we have dedicated FM vs GT threads, no need to turn this into another.

GT games are the perfect mix of arcade and sim, Having played iRacing and Rfactor recently i would like to see GT5 move slightly more towards sim but only slightly as too much would put off alot of the console crowd which would drive loyal fans away.

"Simulator" is an unfortunate choice of adjective in my opinion. An excellent attempt at engine power and handling physics will always be part of any good driving game (of which GT 5 tops all others). But, a "real" "simulator" at the level some hardcore fans seem to desire with regards to car detail, engine noise, shadows, etc... would require collisions at 200+ mph to go to produce outcomes no game ever will. Nor should it.

I find it comical when gtp'ers cite "simulator" as a reason to better details in area X Y or Z, but blatantly ignore the fact that damage will always be "arcade" or "game-ish".

"Your Bob died on lap 20 in a crash near the chicane. Please create a new Bob. The vehicle is completely destroyed. "

A simulator is not the reality. Nor does it simulate the reality. A simulator is something that is buildt to simulate certain aspects of reality. In simulators, technical damage (to the car/airplane/submarine/space shuttle etc) is important. Visual damage and injuries to the driver is not important, and is actually more "arcade" than simulator - it's there for entertainment purposes only and contributes nothing to the simulation. In a crash simulator, realistic deformation of the body and injuries to passengers is an important aspect. In driving simulators it's not. Lots of real driving simulators (for instance the super high-tech one used by the Swedish road and transportation research institute) does not even detect collisions at all, because the driver can see when they crashed and know they screwed up. At most they get a pop-up message saying "You crashed. Please try again."

Realistic damage is more important for Gran Turismo as a game than as a simulator.

A simulator can also be highly abstract and far from realistic. If you want to simulate behavior during racing you can build a simulator where you race pink squares around a track made of jelly-beans. Most arcade games are excellent simulators - depending on what you want to simulate of course.

The proper terminology to use is "realism", not "simulation". It should be "arcade vs realism", not "arcade vs simulation".

They should have "Semi-Simulation" and "Simulation" gameplay/driving settings in the A-Spec options, where the semi-simulation is a cross between GT2/GT3 that's DESIGNED FOR ENJOYMENT WITH NORMAL GAME CONTROLLERS, and the simulation is obviously GT4/5/6/Real Life DESIGNED FOR ENJOYMENT WITH REALISTIC/ADVANCED STEERING WHEEL CONTROLLERS, and you get more credit earnings per race/championship NOT by doing Sim instead of Semi-Sim but by decreasing driving assists within either of the two main settings.

This will make gameplay much more enjoyable for anyone's skill level, fans of old GT, those like me who usually want the best of both worlds (Arcade & Sim) and anyone playing with a normal controller who isn't fortunate enough to buy a steering wheel or sim racing seat/setup.

I think if they can get a real good simulation going and combine it with better cars and models and combine it with a good storyline, I might never buy another racing game.

PD would be foolish to go down the road of turning GT6 into an arcade game. The potential is definitely there, it just needs to be properly implemented. I put in my copy of GT5 for the first time in around 4 months today and the first thing I realised was the extremely slow loading times. I realise that there are more important aspects of the game that should be improved such as the standard/premium car issue, but little things like that would assist the game in the 'fun' aspect.

Attention should be paid to the improvement of event variety in GT6. Where were rally events in GT5? A few special events just don't really showcase all the hard work that has been put in by PD.

GT6 should focus on improving what we already have as a simulator, not starting from scratch.

The problem is, the modern Kaz Yamauchi is a crackhead.

:nervous:
And, apparently, because of what he says in this interview, every doggone game is started from scratch with a brand new idea to kick it off AND IS THE REASON WHY EVERY GAME IN THE SERIES IS EXTREMELY DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER & NOT JUST A SIMPLE IMPROVEMENT FROM THE LAST!!!!
Sometimes they improve things like graphics and friggin' realism almost just for the sake of doing so!!!

:banghead: 👎

I remember the days (or at least now just the games) when realism in driving physics was OPTIONALLY achievable; by Drift Settings in Arcade Mode and/or Simulation Tires In Sim Mode.
*sigh*

Basically few things need to be fixed.
Then it is fine.

Tire model mainly.

I hope that the game will get Kaz's full time to develop it. Instead of launching early.

I dearly hope you're joking.

I actually think you for asking before assuming if i was serious or not. And to answer your question yes i was joking
