Sometimes it does seem like a pi** take, but when it requires virtually no work on PD's part and gives some gamers a greater sense of realism/ownership/individuality, what's the harm in it?

If I owned an MX-5 or Skyline or was an MX-5 or Skyline enthusiast, I'd make sure I bought my exact favourite model or the one I had in real life, and no other game lets you do that.

Unbelievably I had a MX-5 that isn't in the any GT game. It was a Mark 3 2006 MX-5 like the one called Roadster RS (NC) '07 which has a 2.0 litre engine. Mine was the 1.8. It looked exactly the same but a few in game tweaks required to detune it slightly and get close to mine.

Play with a friend, maybe? Local split-screen isn't dead, people still have need for it, I think it's an interesting idea (esp. if you have a 3D TV so you get every other line on a full screen instead of a letter box).

Of course, I'll be sticking with my wheel mainly and playing with friends online, but I've no doubt someone's front room will be commandeered for a "GT party" sometime around Christmas time, as usual; we may even try for three screens this year...
Controllers don't last forever, and SONY doesn't just hand our replacement batteries. We have 2 dead ones. I wouldn't mind having a blue DS3 - to navigate the menus while using my T500 :P

My favorite reason to still hang on to my DS3.

Since I haven't seen too many videos (if any) about driving in the most treacherous road conditions (heavy rain at night), I've tried it myself. It is filmed with my cell phone, so the quality is acceptable, but not really representative of what I'm seeing on screen. Still, I think it is good to get an impression of the thrill of driving at night, blinded by the opponents' spray.
At 2.57 you see me locking up and ending in the grass; that was a scary moment. I love the new driving dynamics and this game overall! FM5, eat your heart out. :P

Copied from the video description:

My impressions:
- Driving in rain is really rewarding; it is necessarily to be constantly be on the edge of concentration to keep the car on the road.
- Driving without ABS is perfectly possible, even in the worst conditions like these. With standard brake balance (5 front, 5 rear), it is the front tyres that lock up first. This is a huge improvement over Gran Turismo 5, where it was needed to really dumb down the rear braking balance. Trailbraking is also possible now, but with care.
- The spray effect is just as blinding as in this video, making races really, really exciting. I was on the edge of my seat on the straight @ 300 km/h (186 mph) seeing absolutely nothing.
- AI on hard difficulty and 10 agressiveness (set in the options) is very eager to get by. Many times they've tried to pass me by coming up to the side and outbraking me. In this video, you see quicker cars like the CLK Le Mans car overtake me on the straights without hesitation (and I'm not holding back).
- During gameplay there are no noticable framedrops. In replays from the track camera views, there are framedrops and the screen gets choppy, especially when there are a lot of cars and spray visible on screen.

I saw you passing 3 cars in the narrow area in the same corner. For 10 aggressiveness it was a huge let down to see. They still have very low cornering speed, only very slight improvements must have been made i guess?

Yes, their corner speed is very low compared to mine. However, this was in the worst weather conditions, so the AI may be programmed to be extra cautious (as you can see there was sudden oversteer under power a few times). Also, the CLK-GTR was stuck a few times behind a slower touring car, but still it was the corners where most of my time was made up. Overall, I've finished 3rd out of 10 participants, so it was pretty challenging to me (the first two took an early lead while I was struggling to get past the rest). And AI seems to race each other now too (see the GT500 GT-R trying to get past the GT-R GT3 starting from around 1.36 where I was stuck behind them).

What I can say for now is that it shouldn't be expected that the AI will have the same driving level as a professional racing driver, but they do make a few attempts now on the straight to get past and sometimes dive on the inside of corners during braking. An improvement over GT5, but not an earth-shattering one. I'm happy for now. :)
