Can anyone please help me? My PS3 won’t download this update (1.08). It starts to download and then says “An error occurred during the download operation. (8001050F)”. This is very frustrating, any help would be appreciated.

I've tried all of the suggested actions that the PS3 advises to no avail. I've tried updating atleast 10 times and it always fails.

Do I need to delete my "game data" and update the game as if it was new? (not the save data) My only problem with that is, will I lose my anniversary edition cars?

Also, could this be happening because I haven't been playing GT6 in a while and I may have missed a couple of updates?

Thanks in advance!

Calm down don't worry. Just disconnect the internet for a few seconds then reconnect to the internet and try again. It could be your internet.

I have a direct connection from my router to my PS3 via an ethernet cable. I tried disconnecting the ethernet cable for a few minutes with the PS3 running and then I tried to update again. It still didn't work.

Delete your game data (not the save data) and do a re-install the updates. You will not lose your Anniversary edition cars when doing this.

I'll try that after school and let you know if it works. Fingers crossed!

Just deleted all of the Game Data Utility (6.8gb). I guess update 1.09 came out today. Tried updating from a clean slate and it still didn't work. Same error code.

What is your error code are you getting or is it the same as your error code that you had before ?.

The only way to fix this is to contact sony support or email them about your problem and tell them that your getting and error code 8001050F. I am thinking it your PS3 is the problem.

Everything on my PS3 works fine though. I'll contact Sony, but I have a feeling that I won't get any assistance. This is turning into a big hassle. Thanks for the input though.

If you email Sony they will help you with your problem. They did help me out.

I contacted Sony. They basically told me to go into Safe Mode and choose option 3 (Restore File System). I tried it and the update still doesn't work! Now I am really angry. Why Sony, why must you torture me?! I still need help, so if anyone has any input, it's appreciated.

That error used to relate to internal clock issues.
But that's mega old news.
Anyway, have you tried setting your date and time via internet on the console?

I googled the error code and it points to a problem with the internal clock. Apparently there is a manual fix for this
but it requires you to do surgery on the ps3. I don't want to mislead you so I would recommend doing some more research on this before doing that. I only searched for a couple minutes. If I find something I will let you know.

Yeah, I have it set via internet. I just spoke with another service representative from Sony and they told me to restore my PS3 to factory settings. Since I have my GT6 save data on my flash drive, I should be fine. It will be a pain though, but it is nearly guaranteed to fix my issue, since it restores it back to when it came out of the box.

Thank you for spending the time. I've seen the internal clock issue, but I don't think that applies to me as it's from over 4 years ago. I'm definitely not capable of performing surgery on my PS3, so I'm just going to try a factory reset. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens.

Remember to pull any other stuff off there before the reset like pics etc.
Let me know if it works and good luck Sir.

I've done the factory reset. Now I have to set up my PS3 as if it were new. I'm just wondering if I should do the update before uploading my save data or put my sava data back and then do the update. Any thoughts?

I would do the update first, and then the save data. That way if something goes wrong after installing the save data, you will know if the save data is corrupted or not.

Well, I've got some bad news. I tried installing the update after the factory reset and it still failed with the same error code! By the way, I didn't put my save data back onto the PS3 either. When I talked to the last service representative, he said that if the reset doesn't work, there is probably something wrong with my harddrive and that I need to send in my PS3 to Sony for repair. My question is, are they going to charge me money for sending it in? Depending on how much they charge me, it might just pay to get a new console. However, I might not be able to use my save data on a new console and that would suck!

Man that really sucks. If it is not under warranty than yes they would charge you to replace the hard drive, around $150.00. I am not a 100% sure but in the past people on this forum received a re-man unit in some situations as a replacement and some had their actual machine repaired but I think it depended on the circumstances. If it is actually the hard drive that failed than it is fairly easy to replace, about a 20 min procedure and there are many tuts on youtube on how to do it, and you could upgrade at the same time. Hope this helps.

I don't know what to think at this point. I brought the console to my local trusted video game repair guy. He said that it's the internal clock and that he can't fix it. I don't know if he knows that for a fact or if he just Googled the error code. Now that update 4.60 came out for PS3, it won't install that either. I get a new error code: 8002F991. I was on the phone with Sony technical support but we couldn't resolve the issue. I asked to speak with a higher-up representative to see about getting a GGW. Since my PS3 is too old or something, I won't get a GGW. I have to pay a $70 service charge. They will fix or replace the system if needed. I don't even know if I want a PS3 anymore after all of this hassle. I really only play one game, GT6. If my save data doesn't work after the PS3 is fixed, I'm probably not going to play anymore. This is ridiculous.
