I've googled this already and I can't get an straight answer... To max on my PS4 Pro I should buy a 4k/60hz monitor right? According to an IGN article the game output on PS4 Pro is 1800p (?!) so a 1440p monitor won't do it, actually... It would display 1080p on a 1440p monitor... Or does it escalate accordingly?

The article also states more or less stable 60fps in any PS (30fps for replays).

Currently playing on a 1080p monitor, fwiw.

Well...yes...?

You must have a 4K monitor to use the 4K resolution. :boggled:
1800p is not 4k, 2160p is. According to the IGN article I mentioned before, that's PS4 Pro output for GT7.

My other question being if a 1440p monitor would display the game in 1440p or just 1080p since its not capable of 1800p.

Ooh wait, I see what you mean now. GT7 on PS4 doesn't offer 4K.

But to be honest, if you want the best out of GT7, you should just get a PS5 at this point...

It's ultimately a question of "Do I prioritize my existing console, or the best GT7 experience?"

I'm talking PS4 Pro, actually. Regular PS4 does only 1080p.

I would love to know if it would escalate accordingly to 1440p when using a 1440p monitor.

EDIT: I renamed the thread for clarity.

Doesn't matter. PS4 or PS4 Pro still uses the same version of GT7.
Well... Yes, but PS4 Pro uses checkerboard rendering to upscale resolution.

What I don't know is if it escales accordingly to the monitor it is plugged in or if it is a 1080p or 1800p thing only.

Afaik, a PS4 Pro outputs either 1080 or 2160 (there's a setting in the system menu.) A 1440 monitor will then up/down-scale accordingly.
I don't know if all 1440p monitors can present themselves as a 4k device. I have one that can do that, so the PS4 Pro sees it as a 4k monitor, and you can make the PS4 Pro send it a 4k image which the monitor will down-scale, but I can't say if 100% of 1440p monitors offer that feature.

The article also states more or less stable 60fps in any PS (30fps for replays).
GT7 doesn't run at a stable 60fps on a PS4 Pro. The Tokyo 600 race, for example, is juddery on the first lap, it's one reason I haven't played the game much for a while now.

What they mention with 1800p is the internal resolution in which the game is rendered. The output is then scaled to either 1080p or 2160p. You can't directly access that 1800p in any way.
1440p was added to PS5 with a firmware update, I don't know for sure but I'd guess that this change didn't come for PS4. (for GT7, the game thinks it's outputting 4K and the PS5 is doing the scaling to 1440p)

Now that's a straight answer. Thank you.

24" or 27" 1080p monitor it is, then. I don't think 4k 27" makes any sense because recommended distance would be 50-60 cm which I don't think is doable, even less on a wheel.

*According to Reddit there was no 1440p firmware update for PS4 Pro.
