Looks like I’m keeping my €800 after all.

At least for now.
Wise choice... No need to rush.

There are improvements, there is no doubt.
But if it requires a side by side to truly appreciate and recognize the changes and improvements, but without that side by side... You are barely noticing or it is not as evident to the changes... Then maybe it is not worth it...

I am really not stopping anyone or knocking anyone for getting one, it's your money and I would get one too if it was not too much of a trouble....

But as of now, and when I primarily pay with GT7 only, I don't see the high value of getting the pro at the moment...

I also will wait for more changes updates and improvement significant enough before I do another console change.

For most of us, 65% to 75% of us, IMHO, the regular PS5 is perfectly fine.

The Pro is not life changing...

Soooo..

Like….

Are we not going to talk about how clean Jordan’s driving was???
That really was some immaculate driving from @Jordan, I really need to practice more.
I try to be on my best behavior when I know thousands of people will be watching.

There's a reason the video cuts off before the final chicane, though...

Come on man, this is not the place or the time to be reasonable! Just do it! :D
:D I haven't made up my mind either. I realise this is all subjective, but the range of different takes on the quality of the update from "transformative, hugely improved" to "barely noticeable, and in some respects worse" isn't making the decision any easier.

PD need to do better and also add those quality of life improvements everyone has been asking for.
I don't wanna be this guy, but I feel, at the point of GT7's lifespan we are at, this is not going to happen. To me, it seems like PD doesn't have a real interest in VR, but it was mandated by Sony. So they did their part, and that was it. Same with the PS5 Pro patch now. The new VR improvements were mandated by Sony to get people to buy the Pro console.

If PD had a real interest in VR, I believe we would have seen some improvements in VR game mechanics, UI and QOL by now. There are some very low hanging fruits which could be implemented with hardly any development efforts.

I think frustration and assessment of PD plans for VR are separate things. Historically PD are always working on the future, so my thoughts are that most effort is going to the next GT title and making VR settings for that title which will not be constrained by legacy non vr PS4 code compatibility etc.
GT sport 2, maybe a Ps5 title soon. Some news of the future would be good.

BUT they really need to fix the car vibration in VR, it's infuriating. Why are they shaking my eye to pieces?
Even when stationary.
It might be car specific.

"VR never sold well."
Also "VR improvements so people buy the Pro console."

I dont think it was you who was suggesting the first idea, just pointing towards 2 different claims on this board that dont fit together.

In my Alan Rickman Hanz Gruber voice: ""Christmas is coming, Theo. It's a time of miracles." Make it happen Cap’n. ;)

Alrighty. I’m switching the VR repositioning blah blah blah(VRPRS) on and off. That makes a helluva difference both ways! The tradeoff are the damn Starlight shimmering stuff. During my race at Dragon Trail, the shadows of the cars look jagged and the tyres don’t look in contact with the road surface( I have Graphics Priority to Frame Rate and PSSR Enabled). I did notice cars stutter jumping and my own car was a bit jumpy over the first ess turn curbs.

I noticed some bushes in the distance popping in one at a time. Other than that, switching the VRPRS off relaxes the visuals, but the ghosting is ramped up to “11”. It’s just bad in VR Replay. When VRPRS is On in VR Replay, there’s just no question how awesome the visuals are.

Hi everyone, I see black friday sales with the PSVR 2. I just wanted to know if there is a consensus on the question "Are we faster or slower when playing the psvr2 ? or it just doesn't matter ? ".
I'm inclined to make the jump and buy one, but I won't if I have to play without it while reaching gold times in the online time trials mode. Switching for flat to VR to flat kills the momentum.
For reference, I'm A+/S and I have 108 time trials golds.

at time trials you can be as fast in vr as on flat screen

Time improvement will come later..

Immersion is the name of the VR2 game, and on that regard, there is simply no equal.

You can always go back, but in my case I have not, why would I want to go back to the screen when it's so much more enjoyable in VR. It's one way to play the game , and it's a great option to have if you can afford it.
I honestly cannot see the future of car gaming without it ...

My 2 cents

There's people like @djolliea who routinely rank in the top 50, sometimes top 10 worldwide while exclusively going in VR. I do the same (the VR thing, not the top 10 thing ... ;))

But even if I were faster on flat screen (I am not, in fact I am laughably bad at it), I would still prefer VR. The experience is just so much better. Go for it, you won't regret it.

I'm faster for sure. I remember the first time I used it. I was not having any trouble with bends that I usually have trouble with. I was taking them with ease, everything felt natural.

Others have had different experiences ie they are slower. I didn't get much motion sickness either so maybe that helped.

I’m faster for sure, but I’m no driver of your caliber so no idea if this applies to you.

What I can say with certainty though is that having 100 x more fun and I’m 100 x more immersed.

Wouldn’t play GT any other way.

I think I’ll keep my PS5 for now. The improvements sound fairly limited and not worth £700 in my opinion but then GT7 is all I play.

If Sony persevere with VR into the next gen it’ll be interesting to see if the PSVR2 will remain compatible with the PS6 when it eventually appears. If it does then I can see me upgrading to a new console then.

Played the game last night on VR and the improvement for me was massive, Quite amazed at the negative comments on here.

It is crystal clear now when passing cars, like night and day difference. The sweet spot seems larger. The Hud is far far clearer. The LOD models are much better, Ive not played the game in about 6 months but my main gripe was with the LOD pop in models was awful before but brilliant now with barely any pop in at all.

All in all im well happy i sold my PS5 for a Pro as the difference for me is large enough!

I'm not at your level either, but if you can get a good deal on PSVR2 I think you should try it. I wouldn't use it for on-line racing much because of the HUD issues, but for time trials and single player it's amazing. Sometimes I play on flat screen with controller in a recliner, sometimes flat screen with wheel, but most of the time if I'm in my sim rig I'm using VR for GT7.

95% of the time I'm faster in VR than on flat screen. I've done experiments in time trials and tried to get my best lap in each on the same day and I was faster in VR. Once in a while there's a car/ track combo that for whatever reason I'm faster on flat screen. A lot times a right-hand drive car will mess me up because I'm so used to knowing where my corners are in a left-hand drive car IRL- it's more to think about. You can't just use bumper cam and get a central view.

But it's so cool to be able to actually turn your head and look through apexes at the correct angle like you would in the real car. It really is something else. I have my bass shakers thumping, subwoofer going, earbuds in, small fan in front of me... the immersion is insane and it never really gets old. You get used to it, but it never gets stale.

Plus there's a lot of elevation changes and road camber changes you can't see on flat screen that are so obvious in VR and you realize why the car's doing something where on flat screen it didn't make sense. I'd say yes, get one and see what you think. It's an amazing experience even if you're not ultimately faster, but you probably will be, or at least not any slower. But for daily race B and C where you're managing fuel and stuff, and you're blind to the positions of the leaders and other drivers, it's a disadvantage. I don't race on-line much though for other reasons, not because I use VR. I'm B/S but could be A/S if I tried and actually raced online, but probably not A+/S no matter how hard I tried. I've watched enough A+ level drivers and their consistent fast lap times to know that I couldn't hang with those guys..

edit - I almost forgot I made a video that day.
If I kept going in VR I would have been even faster but I didn't want to give the VR laps that much of an advantage.

Yes and I'm not in that category of "PSVR2 was a failure and is dead" at all, quite the opposite actually.

But I think it's important to distinguish between what Sony wants from VR/PS5Pro and what PD wants. Of course, Sony wants to sell the hardware so they likely mandate their flagship titles to support it.

PD wants to make a good game that players will play. But they have not shown any interest so far in improving the VR experience since its initial launch (and it will remain a mystery if they had ever done it without the influence of Sony). We all know the little important things that are missing in VR, such as leaderboards.

So, like I, and others said, I believe it's fair to assume, at the current lifetime of GT7 we are at, any potential improvements will come for GT8 and they have no plans to improve VR for GT7. But I also wouldn't be too surprised if VR stayed the same in GT8. As far as I can tell, PD has no real interest in VR, never promote it or showcase. Otherwise, we would have gotten some tweaks or updates by now.

I don't want to sound too negative, I'm very happy we have VR in GT7 and I can't go back to flatscreen. But I think we have to accept that what we have is all we are going to get, at least for GT7.

Time Machine Belifant: So, like I, and others said, I believe it's fair to assume, at the current lifetime of GT Sport we are at, any potential improvements will come for GT7 and they have no plans to improve Sport.
I'm joking but I'm also not lol. There's no guarantee that any (of which there are many) long standing issues will be rectified with the next iteration of the game. If GT7 is any indication, there's an equal chance of regression.

Im an A+/S driving with VR for something like 1 year or so and I like to think that VR improved my pace :)
However, it could be a side result because VR revamped my love for Gran Turismo and I put a lot more hours per week than before.

You will definitely be slower at first until gaining some confidence. That period could last some months so be prepared for that but I can assure that once you get to that point of confidence mixed with all that new inmersion, theres no turning back

The major con is the lack of real time info (gaps) in sport mode.
For long races like manu or nations it really is something you miss.

I think that hairpins are way more easy to attack on VR because you are pointing your sight where you want to put your car while in a flat screen you are take them blindly basically.

I still remember the amazement on my first ride at the nords with VR discovering all that cambers and elevations.

@manou I recommend to take that solid advice from @BWX , you wont regret it

It would be cool if GT7 eventually came to PC with VR support. Imagine a monster PC with some high res VR goggles with nice lenses. That would be something to see.

Thanks, yeah it really is an amazing experience. These are my first VR goggles so GT7 was my first real VR experience other than those phone box demos and RC FPV planes and quads which isn't in 3D. It's funny that you can't really put into words how much different and cool it really is. It really blew my mind!

edit- oops double post.

haha I'm not sure if you agreeing with me or arguing with me, but just to be clear, I'm only talking about VR in GT7. Not GT7 as a whole, nor PSVR2 as a whole. Evidently, GT7 is still being developed, we are still getting almost monthly updates, so I am not in that "camp". ;)

The VR part has been unchanged since its introduction (is it 2 years now ?) so it is doubtful they are still working on VR updates for GT7, when GT8 is likely being released in the next 2-3 years max. That's what I meant with my rant, PD did was mandated with VR, but don't show interest in taking it further. There is so much potential on table up for grabs still.

I think we're agreeing tbh. It's just my opinion that they've shown a lack of interest in a lot of things (to include VR) and that I don't hold out much hope that GT8 will be what we hope it will be. I had those hopes going into GT7 and with each subsequent update and we've all been letdown quite a bit.

I'm just not quite sure what to expect from them atp.

As it pertains to VR, I finally hooked mine up after being in its box since July. I noticed an improvement but will have to play around with it more.

Couple of hiccups. Forgot I have to wait for the game to finish downloading. Not going to transfer any data. Hooked up the VR and after messages about the hand controllers need charging, my headset is got the black screen of death. Turn it on and I get the vibration and PS logo. Then, nothing. Now, the game isn’t loading after Closing the game and restarting. Lovely.
Mine did the same thing. Shutdown and restarted and it went back to normal.

Come on man, this is not the place or the time to be reasonable! Just do it! :D
😂. My money was gone after reading the patch notes. Not the wisest decision, but the improvements made were enough for me personally.

After reading a bunch of posts here, it seems the general consensus is that the PS5Pro + PSVR2 + update is really good but not worth enough to spring for the PS5Pro if you already have a PS5. Is that correct?

I think it would have to be a night and day difference for me to upgrade. I already love GT7 and the PSVR2. I have not raced flat screen since I got it. Now if I come across some extra cash, that's a different story!

For those mentioning the vibrating car, could it be because the car is on? IRL, you can feel the car when it is on though I have never been in one where I can see it vibrating so much that I can actually see it in the cabin....

Hmm no I am dissapointed and want the patch update removed. Both modes some cars shake terribly, including yourself the driver if you look down. It was not like this before the update.
The HUD is unusable with every aspect going wrong including driver/car names above the cars while in the reprojection mode turned on. And the other mode is worse performance than before the update regarding frame rate and res of mirrors/reflections and track effects like spray.
This is an Alpha stage update they released too early. Consecutive weekly updates from now on I expect/hope.

This update would actually stop people taking on VR in gaming in my view its horrible when it goes wrong or you have one of the shaky cars. I really dont reccomend. I havent tried my standard PS5 with PSVR2 to see how it looks after update, but I still think Pro will get fixed, it better do.

I don't see any difference between before and after the 1.54 update with my "Amateur" OG Fat PS5 and VR2...

I am guessing what you described only affects those who are "fortunate" to have VR2 and the PS5 Pro....

It's all good on my side :)
