So I'm going to make a Record Book thread for GTAIV but before doing so I want to organize the layout with your input. As you all know, GTAIV tracks a huge amount of stats but not all of these are suitable for 'record-keeping' such as things with finite values (Money Made From Missions etc.) and boring stuff like 'Saves Made'. So I'm just going to give a preview of what it'll look like so we can discuss it instead of crapping up the first pages of the actual thread.

Post 1 will have the intro as well as records from the General category:

Current money
Times Busted
Times Died
People Killed
Kill/Death ratio (I made up this stat but I think it would be interesting to compare each other's.)
Playing Time
Longest non-stop game
Times Cheated (not sure how this will affect other records...)
Days passed

Post two will haves Crimes records:

Cars Stolen
Bikes Stolen
Boats Stolen
Helioptrs Stolen
Time Wanted On Six Stars
Stars Attained
Stars Evaded
Longest Cop Chase Time
People Run Down
Kills Since Last Save

Criminals Killed

Post three will have 'Vehicles' related stats:

Post four will have Money related stats:

post 5 will track combat:

Bullets fired

Melee kills
Armed kills
Time spent in cover
Successful counters
Player died by Melee
Player shot to death
Player Blown up
Player became roadkill
Vehicles blown up

The sixth post will list minigames and racing scores:

Pool wins
Pool defeats
Pool playing time
Pool clearances from break
Darts wins
Darts defeats
Darts time played
Darts 180s hits
Darts bullseye
Bowling high score
Bowling wins
Bowling draws
Bowling defeats
Bowling highest score
Bowling Spares
Bowling Strikes
Bowling Perfects
Bowling Time played
Total race time
(races will go here, there are nine of them, each with three stats)
QUB3D high score
QUB3D time played

Miscellaneous

Times scored with girl

(nothing else here seems very... 'competitive' :mischievous:

So, which stats should be removed from record keeping?

And will screenshots be required? I'm thinking they will be for first places and upon request.

That's all!

If you've got the time and patience to update it, then go for it.

I would have said it's a bit early yet, but what the hell.

BTW, "Money Made From Missions" doesn't have a limit. You can keep raising this up.

How? Repeatedly selling cars to Stevie? So much for an example.

IMO it should wait a few months

From another thread:

I hope not for a good long while after it comes out--- the SA one was rushed-- most people were not done with the game and I felt rushed to complete it (I had a reputation to maintain)-- either way... I won't be rushing through IV--

IMO it should wait for 5 or 6 months after the game comes out.

So people would feel compelled to rush through the game to keep their reputation for spending too much time playing a video game? Doesn't make sense to me.

To each his own though.

No, people had a reputation from the GTAIII and Vice City scorebooks that they wanted to keep, therefore when the San Andreas one came out too early, instead of just taking it easy and getting 100% and exploring the game before getting into the record breaking, some people felt rushed into posting records instead of taking things more slowly.

The first Vice City record book came out several months after the game was released. It was a good idea that kept people's interest in Vice City months after it had been released instead of something that people rushed into not long after buying the game.

I think this is why Spuds is suggesting to wait for quite a while. After a couple of months, people will have 100%, explored the game enough, played a lot of multiplayer, etc. and will be more willing to get into a recordbook as a new reason to continue playing the game.

Also, start a record book too early and the records are being replaced every day or two and people put up pointless records like the fact that they've travelled 10ft on 2 wheels just because no-one else has posted a record for it yet.

I don't really care either way when it goes up, but I can see where Spuds is coming from.

I still don't care if it opens now or in a few months, but it makes sense now. 👍

KM covered MY REASONS better then I did or could ;)

I won't be contributing for quite a while nor even looking at it-- I think it would be more sucessful if you wait a while-- not necessarily for me as I doubt I will compete much in it as I simply don't have the time to do it anymore-- I barely have time to play yet alone work on records.

Also, I'm betting alot of people will wait to really work on records and in which case you will make your job harder-- as you will get low quality records initially which will be beaten when more serious gamers complete the game and start contributing--

I made these suggestions to Jimmy for the SA book as the posts initially were crazy (big updates)--

--for a while, only allow new #1 records to be posted-- this will limit the amount of low quality records being posted.

--make everyone post the records in order and divided by section-- it makes updated for you MUCH easier.

--make everyone post the record with their name next to it-- you can copy and paste in this case once again making your job easier.

Trust me-- big updates are tedious-- especially when the records are not in order.

I do wish you luck-- but I will stick to my suggestion of waiting a few months to get started.

What someone could do is simply open a new thread where people can post and discuss their stats, stunts, etc. without anyone having to open up a record book to for them yet.

How about this thread?

My longest cop chase was 00:35:04.
Time spent with six stars: ~22:00
Longest free fall: 687 ft (I've jumped off the highest building as well as the chopper at max altitude but they didn't count. The 687 ft was from a shorter building.
Play time ~120 hours
Longest non-stop game: 9 hours 11 minutes
Longest wheelie 1300 ft
Longest stoppie 280 ft

All I can remember off the top of my head.
