'Fast Food Runner'

Burger Shot In Juniper Hollow San Fierro To The Well Stacked Pizza Co. In Idlewood Los Santos

Elegy

No modifications such as Nitro and Spoilers are allowed.

Start anywhere in the Burger Stack Car Park and end anywhere in the Well Stacked Pizza Co. Car Park.

Rules

No cheats allowed.
You can go off-road and you can crash although crashing slows you down.
You must time yourself with a stopwatch or somethig similar. Start timing as soon as you set off and stop timing as soon as you finish.
PM your times to me, they will be posted up a week after the race thread is made.
No time discussing in the thread.

Here's a Template of what you should have in the PM to me.

Car - Elegy
Time Taken - 99'99.999
Notes On Route Taken - XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Deadline - 10th January

Have fun :)

Sorry, start in the Burger Shot in Juniper Hollow, San Fierro. It's a bit north from the Downtown one.

And you give us a car with a tonne of wheelspin for the first week. Okay, I'll give it a go, need to have a look at a map first, though.

10th January, because it's New Year etc. I've extended the deadline, after this round you'll have seven days each 'race'.

The easiest thing to do is setup a savegame with an Elegy in your garage in a safehouse near the start of the race. Save your game such that you can get to the start of the race, without hurrying, before 12:00am/pm with a few seconds to spare. Set yourself up on the start line and as soon as the clock turns from 11:59 to 12:00, hit the gas and go for it!

That way you can just look at the game clock when you get to the finish spot. To try again, just reload your game. That's what I usually do for these kind of custom challenges. It doesn't have to be 12:00 you start at, but it makes it easier for for a challenge that might be several minutes long and you can't remember at whether you started at 1:00 or 2:00 or whatever.

It isn’t?

And this thread is pretty boring with no times allowed to be discussed…

I'm sure they're not, otherwise wouldn't a game day be a game day in real time?
1 game minute = 1 real second and 1 game hour = 1 real minute. 1 day in the GTA games = 24 minutes in the real world. So the game clock is actually recording real minutes and seconds, but a day takes 24 minutes instead of 24 hours.

That's how the times for the in-game races are calculated.

So routes....

How many of you guys are actually off roading this car? I've tried a few off road routes but it doesn't take well to them, especially if you lose momentum going uphill :yuck:

The offroading is going to be incredibly interesting i'd say, with all that wheel spin i can see going down hill and hitting some uneven surface is going to result in alot of spinning. The car is... 'interesting' to handle on road with it kicking out coming out of a corner sometimes, so i suppose we've got to wait for the times to tell us...

While I know we're not supposed to discuss times in this thread, it would be good to at least know some ballpark times that people are generally getting around, so that way I can see if I'm being competitive or not. Ie. if someone has a 2-minute lead on me, I would need to get to work.

I know a lot of the other runners are experienced *car* racers, whereas I've mostly competed with motorcycles and airplanes. So I would want to see if I'm even relatively close to them.

Well, off road, the slightest unevenness makes the car spin out, and stability on hills is abysmal at best. On my route, I mostly stayed on roads, only venturing out a bit for a shortcut.

My route is almost all off-road, and very boring. I don’t think it’s as fast as an on-road route because the top speed is lower. I’ll have to try other routes…

The best thing is, to stay on the roads (highways) as long as possible, because you'll have a higher speed there.. Off road makes your car go a lot slower.

I still haven't find a good route yet, and the yellow taxicabs are pissing me off!

Routes are certainly going be the deciding factor in this.

I think I've been taking the same route as Blake, lol. Yeah, vehicle speed is a little slower, but the path is much more direct I think. I haven't timed them though to see what the time difference is, but it sure looks like it would be faster.

I've found a lovely route - mostly road, and mostly smooth. It does get interesting when I go offroad though. Very hilly, and somewhat blind.:)

I had already done this at the safehouse in Calton Heights before reading past the first post!

Reading the rule in the first post about using a stopwatch or similar, I decided to test the gameclock to see just how accurate it was. Not that accurate unfortunately. Running from 00:00 to 00:00 gametime (24 hours) actually takes 24 minutes and 18 seconds according to both my PC clock, and my alarm clock. Thus for every four minutes gametime I have to add three seconds to get realtime.

I think if everyone used the game clock it would be better. On a PC if someone’s game starts lagging the clock time would still be in synch with the action, if you get what I mean. And as I said, it allows people to pause the game and their run won’t be ruined. I just think it’s better for consistency.

I'd agree about the consistency, and add convenience. I don't have access to a stopwatch, and timing things using an analogue clock is somewhat cumbersome. At least my ps2 is connected to PCTV, so it's not too dificult to use the windows date/time on the same screen as the action. However reaction time (stopwatch), and moving your attention from the game to a seperate clock can only be bad for accurate timings.

I don't agree about the pausing though. Who'd want to pause mid race?

I would.

I imagine in some races we’ll have to make fairly complicated routes and pausing the check the map can be convenient. Plus, if the phone rings I don’t want to have to abandon my run to answer it. ;)

When I am hammering towards the finish line, I don't want to take my hands of the controls to stop the stopwatch!

Perfect timing to start this one, I'll be trying it when I come home 👍

Only thing though, what do you mean with "Notes on route taken"?

I think its just for comparison/discussion later. There's such variety available it would probably be quite interesting to look at the variation.

Quite a long race. Are they all going to be this long?

*edit*

I've just been looking at the map. I think I've got a good route to use. I'll try it tonight.

If you want accurate game clock on the PC, then run with Frame-Limiter ON
Timers and clocks slow down with higher FPS, - I made a thorough test of that for the PC records thread here.
Shouldn't make much difference though because cars/bikes gets similarly slower (airplanes is a different story though).

For timing on PC, simply take 2 screenshots (start and finish) with the HUD enabled and subtract the time. You can use fraps (www.fraps.com) for easy screenshots.

Btw. I'm assuming that the finish on this race is the parking space in front of the restaurant (clearly marked "Customer Parking") not the big one next to it, right ???
