The much-rumoured PS2 version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories has been officially confirmed by Rockstar with the game scheduled to hit the shelves next month.

As recently as last week, doubt still surrounded the PSP port after Rockstar refused to comment on rumours that the game was heading to PS2. But any doubt has now been cast aside because the controversial publisher has confirmed that VCS on home console will hit on March 6 in America and March 9 in Europe.

"Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories offers PlayStation 2 system owners a big screen experience of the same storyline and missions, featuring the open-world, innovative gameplay, incredible production values and diverse music that are the trademarks of the Grand Theft Auto franchise," said a Rockstar spokesperson.

That's all well and good, but will you bother playing it if you've already played GTA: Vice City on PS2 or Vice City Stories on PSP? Have your say on IGN's European message board.

Yup, it official! Im so happy because I really want something GTA to tide me over till XI..... Vice City was my favourite so this one should be great! Plus I dont want to buy a PSP

Its no real shock that it was ported but there was a time when people said there would be no way it would happen.....

The PS2 verisons are always way better..... better graphics and control... they only lack multiplayer which I dont think it that a big deal... You never know, VCS may have split screen...

It`s set in 1984?! I`m getting it!
Hey Spuds, are you gonna pursue VCS records? You`re more or less "the man" in matters pertaining to VC.
I briefly considered (for about 2 seconds) buying LCS, but I just can`t stand Liberty City :yuck: . This means I`ll probably stop playing SA, & will have to re-learn the sh**ty PS2 controller :yuck: :grumpy: :nervous: :banghead: , but It`ll be worth it because the 80`s RULE!!

Nice one! I'll definitely buy this. I never got round to 100% in Liberty City Stories and I wouldn't be surprised if I never got round to 100% in this new game, but I bet it'll be cheap like LCS and I'm a sucker for a GTA game.

I just hope there's a bit of variety or new things to make it worthwhile. LCS at least introduced motorbikes to Liberty City which was definitely something new and enjoyable.

I won't be as active in a VCS recordbook as I was in VC... my little ones take too much of my time now (my youngest one should be walking in another month or two-- but I'm looking forward to trying out some of my VC tricks in VCS-- killing methods/superjumps/and a few other things... will definitely play it to 100% at least.... (I've played all the GTAs to 100% so far) and will definitely play as much as I can toward 100% without guides... I got to 76% on VC-- so my goal is at least this...

I played VC first and still loved III and LCS (Liberty City is a great town)-- I was disappointed that they didn't put a packer (For jumps) in LCS though...

I don't think I'll have time to run the recordbook this go around either (I'd love to just don't have the screen time to spare).

I'm actually glad they didn't announce this earlier-- the wait for LCS was an eternity-- I love the period (80s theme)-- hoping the sound track even approaches VC's soundtrack quality.

W00t!!!!! I always knew in the back of my mind that they would release this on PS2, suspecting that they kept saying it won't be ported to PS2 so that they rack up more PSP version sales. They'd be crazy to not port it over considering the amount of PS2's out there now.

I know pretty much nothing about the game apart from the fact it has Phil Collins in it, so will be buying it regardless. Only the Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto series i buy without knowing what they are like beforehand (i.e. by reading about it or renting it).
