(GTOR) Group C Le Mans 3 Hour Endurance Event! - June '15Open

695
United States
Raleigh, North Carolina
The mighty Group C race cars that once ruled the streets of Le Mans may be gone, but they have never been forgotten. The monstrous speed of these cars is more or less the reason 2 chicanes were added to the Mulsanne straight in 1990. Modern prototype cars are now more focused on fuel economy rather than speed, thus despite all the R&D spent on these modern vehicles they still cannot match the awesomeness of the Group C era.

Let us go back in time 25 years ago to 1990…

Leaving everything alone, other than adjusting the transmission top speed slider to 255, and using RM tires, they were all lapping right around 3:10.xxx per lap. Fuel consumption also seems to be same across the board, roughly 10 liters / lap.

I haven't done any tire wear evaluations but I don't expect that to vary much.

You can. Changes can be made up until close to race date. I just want to ensure that, depending on participation, we don't have more than 2 people using any given model. 👍

I think I can make it to this race, it sounds fun! :)

I'll go with either the '92 nissan or the minolta toyota....
probably nissan.

I'm very interested, however I'll need more concrete time info first.
Also one quick note, I dont think Le Mans 09 No chicane has time change.

AH! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I'll look into that today and will make any needed changes.

Nice avatar Brutaka. I've got my fingers crossed that Muse's new album will be good.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like either (no chicanes) track allows for weather and/or time change. We'll just have to persevere without that option!

Will do. BTW I grew up not too far from you - Short Hills / Summit area.

Well, we should visit each other sometime! :D

We should be able to have one race steward monitor the chicanes and give penalties to anyone that completely cuts them.

Haha, sorry Mike I live in North Carolina now - though I'll be in Bedminster on the 16th for a wedding, lol. And in my previous comment I meant we'll just not have changing time of day - we'll still use the course without chicanes.

Could I go as a reserve? Jaguar or Sauber free?

You can, take the Jaguar please if that's alright.

Interesting.

The club I race with is also running a Group C event in June. I did the balancing for it (2013 layout, with chicanes) and came up with the following specs:

All cars on RS doing 3:23 with near identical acceleration and top speed stats.

LeMans is pretty soft on tyres due to the straights. Fuel was pretty balanced across all 7 cars. Our race is only 2 hours long however.

Ok, what is happening with this? Could you post start time, day and all that. I'll need to know soon to get ready for Qualy.

I'm in the 92 Nissan. With all that horsepower it must handle bad, haha.

They're doing everything on their website and just kinda left this thread to rot. 👍
