Is the test this Wednesday a race meeting simulation? If so which track are we going to run?
I just checked post #3. It is the car spec test on Wednesday and then the format test next Wednesday (11/02). :)

How long have we got before you want car picks in @True-blue-8?
Sorry for the short reply mate, was on mobile earlier and I hate typing.
Friday night is when i'll start asking for them in and announcing. Sunday night is the deadline

You were on the money about the Red Bull testing scheme @True-blue-8

More from Red Bull boss Christian Horner:
"Daniil had an off on a cold track when he was changing something on his steering wheel and that has damaged his front wing - which is the only front wing we have here."

And on the RB11's 'disguise' livery:

"It came out of a helmet design which Sebastian ran last year. It epitomises Red Bull because we are not afraid to do things differently. It also makes it more difficult to take detailed pictures of the car, it confuses your eyeline."
Yep, Newey told me ;)
The picture bit makes sense, and they must be pretty confident in their car this year. hmmmmm

This Wednesday will be a get together, like it was meant to be last week. We'll move around to each track doing a 5 lap race, seeing how the cars differ in the pack.
Next Wednesday will be a full night format. Will pick some tracks later.
The week after that is going to be an off practice session. I'd like as many as possible for the next 2 weeks, then take a week break before we kick off. How does that sound to people?

You know how I feel about all this waiting...

I'm PMing you now m8, if you do want a week off I may steal it for something...

Jerez Day Two timesheet 4pm GMT:
1. Vettel, Ferrari, 1:20.984, 89 laps
2. Nasr, Sauber, 1:21.867, 88 laps
3. Bottas, Williams, 1:22.319, 61 laps
4. Hamilton, Mercedes, 1:22:490, 91 laps
5. Verstappen, Toro Rosso, 1:24.167, 73 laps
6. Maldonado, Lotus, 1:25.802 41 laps
7. Button, McLaren, 1:54.655, 6 laps
8. Kvyat, Red Bull, No time, 18 laps

McLaren plagued by reliability issues once again, Kyvat breaks his front wing on his first outlap and RBR didn't have any spares. He was running without a front wing, using the pit lane on every lap as opposed to the start/finish straight.

Hamilton was long running like Rosberg but had a water pump failure which meant he missed the last 3 hours. Still, 248 laps in 2 days, 60 less than what they did over 4 days last year.

Again, the Sauber in 2nd

Sauber (going off of one of their tweets) seemed surprised that Nasr has found this pace and confidence in the car so soon. I reckon he'll smash Ericsson this season (but I thought that pre-testing too)

Everyone smashes Ericsson though.

But seriously, from these times (although it's only testing), the Sauber seems pretty quick!

Just to add:

Look at pre-season last year...
upload_2015-2-2_16-37-53.png

The Sauber's were 13th and 17th.

Exactly, those times don't mean anything, maybe Mercedes only runs with 100kg fuel and Ferrari with 25... Maybe Mercedes isn't aiming at fast laps but Sauber is. Sauber and Toro Rosso have rookies in their cars, they have to get practice and their testing programme certainly have nothing to do with Mercedes', nor Ferrari and Williams.

But Mercedes has more laps under its belt than any other team and that is a good sign for them (but seriously who had doubts ?).

Well, if we assume (and I know that's a bad thing to do where testing is concerned) that Mercedes didn't change any engine components after yesterday then that is 4 GP distances in 2 days before a fault.

Yeah the word is "weird".

FWD, really ? I won't drive it if it lands in GT6, I hate FWD !

Yeah so if I follow your reasoning, Red Bull did a 0.1 GP distance before a fault last year. :D

And McLaren are screwed

I genuinely believe that Honda unit will be the fastest engine on the grid, but reliability and subsequent penalties will cripple their championship hopes. 2016 Alonso wins his 3rd World Championship.

The Nismo has the ability to be 4WD.

http://blackflag.jalopnik.com/the-nissan-gt-r-lm-nismo-is-a-front-wheel-drive-1-250-h-1683150735

"Picture the loooooong driveshaft extending from the front of the car to the back of the car, terminating at the rear axle line. It connects to a differential housing that scales upward – high enough for driveshafts to reach across and over the through-flow aero tunnels. Those driveshafts connect to individual gearboxes that also sit in tall housings. With the high differential housing connected to the high outrigger gearboxes via driveshafts, the rear wheels are turned by short driveshafts from the base of the gearboxes.“

Yeah probably powered by the electric engine like the Porsche and the Audi (?).

The IC engine drives the front wheels and by the regulations it can only drive 2 wheels not 4. Unless it is allowed to switch from front to rear regarding the race situation but I highly doubt such a system will last a race distance - if that is even possible !

I'm going to assume that's the same rule that keeps the Audis from engaging the electric only driven wheels before a certain speed. Around 90-100 kph I believe.

I think they done away with it?

No that's probably another rule or they just do that for another reason, the electric engine has no restriction on the wheels it drives, it can be front, rear or all wheels (art. 11.1 - "No transmission system apart from the MGU(s) may permit more than two wheels to be driven.").

Ah I see, I'm not that offay with the rules as such but surely it won't be that bad.

Have to apologise to the guys on Saturday night. I was driving for a few minutes when I suddenly got a phone call, and I absolutely HAD to take it. It was a good online friend of mine from Glasgow that I'd been speaking to for years but never got the chance to call/visit because well... she was always very nervous. Last night though, she finally plucked up the courage to call me. You've never seen a guy throw down his controller so fast!

On a note, I did happen to notice some quick times at Monaco. Good job to the fellas!

Any one seen the new Nissan LMP1?

I have now, and I don't like it. That has got to be one of the ugliest prototypes I've ever seen. The front of the car is way too long, looks like Pinocchio.

Nah, Toyota still win. Stupid Nissan, you're doing it wrong...

I really wouldn't be surprised if they put up a challenge to be honest.

Although, the money is really on Le Mans, and Audi...

Toyota with Buemi and Davidson should win both Le Mans and WEC outright, but if they don't I reckon it'll be Kaz Nakajima's fault.

I like Kaz, ex-Williams driver who only got the drive thanks to the engines, but he's not the most consistent driver in the world.

Buemi:
🤬 in F1.

🤬 brilliant in WEC!

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it aside, but the more I look at it and the more I'm ok with this unconventional design. Looks more like a road car. It's good to have new things too !
I read several papers on what's inside the beast and I actually think it may be surprisingly competitive if they don't have too much reliability issues. At least Nissan's engineer's approach looks good on the paper.

I see Alonso's times and rosberg's laps are the same as the other day. @Teuchter
